I think moving on Son would be madness. He does give up possession easily but he's more than good enough in other ways to compensate for that. He's a two footed, pacey reliable goalscorer, who is unilaterally loved by fans (both ours and opposition) and teammates - i.e. a unicorn sprinkled in gold dust. I doubt we could replace him for less than £100m and who else could we possibly sign who has such an effervescent, positive personality which must add a lot to team unity and the dressing room dynamic.I know your post Is humorous but we do need to look seriously at our so called star players. Along with Vertonghen Rose Dier etc many of us are frustrated by Alli and Son. Alli seems to be picking up after a poor end last season and start to this season. But his flicks and missed opportunities have cost us dear. If he doesn’t have to think he is a star but give him a second to think and it usually ends in moans. Son fails to pass to players who are in a better position than him and dribbles down blind alleys and we lose momentum. He to me is our biggest problem up front.
When Poch said we have to be brave I think he was talking about Moving on these type of players in order for us to go to the next level. Would either of these two players get into city or Liverpool’s first team?
Personally I would keep Alli if he improves under Jose. Son I would move on but I cannot see levy giving up on all that South Korean Won.
However we do need to match Liverpool and City for goal return from our opportunities.
I think the issue isn't so much Son, but rather playing him in a team with other players who also give up the ball easily. It wouldn't be half as much of an issue if it was just Son, but when Lucas, Alli, Dier, Sanchez and Aurier are also constantly coughing up possession...we have a problem.
I think with more players in the team who are good at holding onto possession like Kane, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks, Lamela (hopefully Bergwijn) etc. then Son's tendency to give it away wouldn't be half as much of an issue. It's also why it's hugely important that we make signings at DM, RB who can actually do this too.
