Don't know what's to disagree with really... we need a backup striker and were looking to bring one in in January, ditto a DM and indications are that Soumaré is the one we are looking at. That's 2. We've had ITK that we're after 2 right backs IF Aurier goes in the summer, and ITK on a new left back (to replace Rose) for summer. That's 5. ITK has then told us we are close to Eze and after McNeil. That's 7. We will likely need a 3rd choice keeper when Vorm's contract expires, and a new LCB to replace Verts if we're not renewing his contract. That's 9.

Which of those are you saying we don't need?

It may be that Cirkin comes in at left back and Austin at 3rd GK, but whether we recruit from within or externally it's still 9 players that will be recruited or needed.

Granted if Aurier stays that's one less at right back, but that's a big if...
We won't sign 9 new players, everyone in football would probably agree with that. How many team stats have ever signed 9 players in a transfer window? Villa went for it this season but apart from that I can't remember a time I've seen so many incomings.

My personal opinion is that 4-5 months is a long time in football, plenty can change. I think we'll stick with Aurier and that we will only sign 1 RB as opposed to the 2 discussed previously. I also believe that withnthe emergence of Tanganga and his diversity across the back four that a new LB isn't essential. Give Sessegnon another half a years worth of development and let's see if he makes a good understudy. Teams like Liverpool don't exactly have massive depth in the fullback departments, we don't need top class and over the top spending whennwe have more pressing areas.

I'd like to see one of Whiteman or Austin come good to the 3rd choice position in goal. Half a season on loan could be very good for Austin and if we can have a academy grown 3rd choice GK it would be a huge help to us. I'm sure Jose will give him every chance to demonstrate his worth at that level to us.

For me, as things stand I think we can put a strong squad together only getting 1 RB, no LB, I'd like to see one of the youth boys step up to 3rd choice GK t that's depending on how they develop under Jose, a DM, backup/ rotation FWD as you've mentioned, Eze and McNeil I can't see happening, maybe one of the two but I'd be surprised to see us move heavy for both.

DM
Backup FWD
RB
Eze or McNeil
Maybe a 3rd choice GK it depends

3-5 players.

The 9 players you think we'll sign, realistically how much money do you think that would cost the club? ITK says Osimhen, Soumare perhaps, Eze, McNeil, Aarons is bookies favourite to us, the other RB I aint sure will be a goer I'd be shocked to see us get x2, a LB, a new GK, a CB to replace Vertonghen so the 9 you feel we need, how much do you think that will cost? Unrealistic I'd say to expect that many incomings

Danny Rose, really surprised it took him over a week to vent his spleen in the press about how he was mistreated under Jose. Yet again it wasn't his fault, absolute cancer of an individual.

Hasn't even started a game for Newcastle and he's already gone on radio. Typical Danny if only he'd keep his head down, focus on his football and realise that these media outlets are rinsing him for all the wrong reasons.

Focus on your football Danny, it ain't all about you son

I actually think Lucas could be in danger of being sold. I think José will need to sell one or two players who could actually fetch a decent price to add to the kitty and Lucas is one of a few I would deem as being expendable but would also raise a decent amount to fund new signings

As we know, wanting to sell and being able too don’t always correlate, but I think Mourinho will look to sell:

Vorm (free)
Walker-Peters
Rose
Foyth
Vertonghen (free)
Wanyama

I also think if they can be replaced with either new signings or developing youngsters, Sissoko, Lamela and maybe Dier will go. However, these are experienced players who offer not just squad options, but leadership too, so I can’t imagine Jose would let them go without replacements.

I dont think any key player/squad rotation player will be sold so summer window will require huge investment

On a more serious note, I'm worried that Ndombele will be shipped out by Jose, he has already questioned his willingness to put his body on the line. Would be a shame as I think he has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world and history has shown that Jose has no sentiment for ability if you're not pulling in his direction.

Disagree, I get the impression Jose loves Lucas and we know he wanted him when he was at Real Madrid. He stated a few times he's been impressed with his defensive work rate and Lucas has played pretty much every game since he became head coach, even before Kane got injured. There were a few rumblings of Lamela potentially leaving in January so I'd expect him to leave in the summer and Lucas to stay. Can see our attacking options consisting of something like this next season:
Kane, backup ST, Lucas, Bergwijn, Son, Dele, Eze/Mcneil.

Those really believe Lucas is at risk of being sold is very strange to comprehend. Maybe, there is a reason behind his name being put forward by those posters. My opinion I just cannot see it myself. Why on earth would JM sell pace, goals, work-rate, good team ethic attitude like Lucas for? I would be beyond shocked if this happens. And he has gone on record about how he rates Lucas, and needing his type of pace etc, and more of the same in his team.

There is obviously a lot of physical dead weight this squad is carrying that should be offloaded first, but almost none of them are going to generate much revenue to replace them. Maybe some like Foyth and KWP can scrounge a pretty penny. If we needed some income to balance the books, sell someone with value, is not an essential member of the squad, and we have plenty of depth for then Lucas is #1 on that list imo. The rest of the squad is either essential, not deep enough, or perennially injured that will scare suitors.

I find that as soon as the possibility is raised that a player may not be a guaranteed starter anymore as we bring more players in, fans start imagining they are going to be offloaded.

I think some fans cannot get out of the mindset of “he doesn’t fit in our best 11, therefore we don’t need him”. Whether that’s buying players or keeping ones we already have.

Univarn, I just respectfully do not agree with your conclusion re Lucas. There is enough money also generated at the end of season from PL/CL/ST etc. Dagraham, I am agreement with you.

So you didn't read my post, then.
I did yes clearly hence my response to you saying we potentially need 9 new players and I said it wasn't possible.

I'll ask again, how many teams have ever signed 9 new players in a summer transfer window that you can remember and how much do you envisage the 9 new players (DM, FWD, LB, RBx2, Eze, McNeil, 3rd GK, LCB) in total costing? You're the one saying you think 9 so I'm just asking if you really think that's a practical thing to think

Wanyama, Foyth, Vertonghen, Rose, KWP and maybe Lamela and Sissoko.

I think the defence will be his main focus as we certainly need a first choice RB and arguably a reliable partner for Toby at CB. LB may be a year of experimentation, with Sess, Tanganga and Davies all rotating through until Jose figures out who he wants in there.

DM comes next which is why we can let Wanyama go. Dier will probably be kept around for a bit longer as a flexible extra, but I wouldn't be suprised if he got a shock move somewhere were the money too good to pass up. I think we are well stocked in CM now with technical players and if we go to a 433 then there is no place for Sissoko (GLC, N'Dombele, Winks, Dele, Gedson all in competition for the same place).

Up top, I think we need a couple of signing's. Kane needs a back up, Son and Bergwijn are probably first choices for the wide berths, but there is no real like for like swaps for them. Again this comes down to what system Jose wants to implement, but pacy with good finishing skills does not sum up Lamela which is why I could see him allowed to leave.

Do you think all 4 of Dier, Wanyama, Sissoko and Lamela will stay?
I've no idea just wondered.
Honestly I'm not sure what kind of team JM is trying to field or how we are looking to play so have no idea who he rates and who he doesn't.
We're all over the place at the minute playing as individuals not a team and the starting 11 as well as positional changes have left me concerned frankly. No idea who will start or in what position from one game to the next.
Lo Celso, Bergwijn, Ndombele and Fernandes look mustard though (apart from Ndombeles fitness) so thats a start.
Wait and see I suppose.
Edit. Need to shift Wanyama if only to lose those dickheads on Facebook.

I myself don't believe that Sissoko will be sold as he gives a different problem to the opposition to our other players .
As for Dier he I believe must move to centre back if he wants to stay as of this moment his pace in midfield is being exposed .
At centre back you can be successful without being the fastest heading ability and being strong counts for a lot .
Some say that speed is needed to be a centre back but you can count the speedy centre backs in the premiership on one hand .
Most just lumber about but put their body on the line .
I undertand your reasoning but Dier wasnt convincing as a CB either.
