I know your post Is humorous but we do need to look seriously at our so called star players. Along with Vertonghen Rose Dier etc many of us are frustrated by Alli and Son. Alli seems to be picking up after a poor end last season and start to this season. But his flicks and missed opportunities have cost us dear. If he doesn’t have to think he is a star but give him a second to think and it usually ends in moans. Son fails to pass to players who are in a better position than him and dribbles down blind alleys and we lose momentum. He to me is our biggest problem up front.

When Poch said we have to be brave I think he was talking about Moving on these type of players in order for us to go to the next level. Would either of these two players get into city or Liverpool’s first team?

Personally I would keep Alli if he improves under Jose. Son I would move on but I cannot see levy giving up on all that South Korean Won.

However we do need to match Liverpool and City for goal return from our opportunities.
I think moving on Son would be madness. He does give up possession easily but he's more than good enough in other ways to compensate for that. He's a two footed, pacey reliable goalscorer, who is unilaterally loved by fans (both ours and opposition) and teammates - i.e. a unicorn sprinkled in gold dust. I doubt we could replace him for less than £100m and who else could we possibly sign who has such an effervescent, positive personality which must add a lot to team unity and the dressing room dynamic.

I think the issue isn't so much Son, but rather playing him in a team with other players who also give up the ball easily. It wouldn't be half as much of an issue if it was just Son, but when Lucas, Alli, Dier, Sanchez and Aurier are also constantly coughing up possession...we have a problem.

I think with more players in the team who are good at holding onto possession like Kane, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks, Lamela (hopefully Bergwijn) etc. then Son's tendency to give it away wouldn't be half as much of an issue. It's also why it's hugely important that we make signings at DM, RB who can actually do this too.

I've just had a look at PL stats over the past four seasons for Sterling, Mane and Son. Whilst Son's stats are not as good as the other two, they are both playing in outstanding teams and Son's stats are still very good:

Sterling 123 games - 53 goals - 28 assists
Mane 114 games - 54 goals - 19 assists
Son 122 games - 45 goals - 25 assists

Taking the current season alone when Spurs have been pretty abysmal:

Sterling 23 games - 11 goals - 1 assist
Mane 22 games - 11 goals - 6 assists
Son 20 games - 7 goals - 7 assists

It can be seen from this that Son is quite clearly a rubbish player who we should offload as soon as possible.

Wanyama, Dier, Rose, Vertonghen, Sissoko, Vorm, Walker Peters & Lamela are the players that I think most are likely to leave. Moura could go if we get a big enough bid to help us buy some of our targets, but I doubt we'd try and push him out.

Foyth, Skipp and Parrott could go out on loan.

I think we'd need about six new players in which is a lot of work for one window.

Maybe and I certainly hope so. I don't think one window (or two, marginally) is enough to say whether it's a trend or an anomaly though.

I don't see any reason why they'd want to go back to not spending money for the sake of it, it's just gonna piss the coach off.

I think it depends on who he can bring in, although I think Wanyama, KWP, Rose & Verts are givens.

Moura isn’t going anywhere. There’s too many deadwood players that need to go before him

as it is I can see us needing to get 5 or 6 out and the same number in

Lucas? Mourinho loves Lucas. Would be very surprised if he was sold.

Lamela clearly can't play in the PL. Just don't understand why we haven't given up yet. Better for both parties that he leaves. We need someone we can rely on being available and Lamela deserves to be somewhere he might not get injured as often and a place where he will be a given starter when fit.

I think the likes of Dier and Sissoko highly depend on what we can bring in. Unfortunately Dier isn't showing much signs of improving in my opinion. Still think there is a player there, but can we afford having both him and his possible replacement in the squad at the same time? I don't mind giving Dier another year, but he would then have to expect to not play unless he suddenly looks his former self again. Sissoko fits the 433 formation Mourinho often plays very well. I wouldn't mind having him around, but I'm not sure how it works number wise. And obviously there is no long term future in Sissoko. So might be best to let go now even if I think he could contribute next season.

Foyth I hope goes on loan, but expect him to be sold.

KWP got to be world class at Southampton to stay I would imagine.

Wanyama, Rose, Vertonghen, KWP, Foyth, Lamela, Dier or Sissoko. Might be too many leaving. Rose, Wanyama and Lamela are the most important for me. Don't see how they could ever play a role for us again. All good enough when fit and in form but they never really are.

And the business plan is to get Champions League football. It's going to be very difficult to get that next season without investing in the squad.

An outlay of £31.15m over the last 4 windows is pitiful for a so called big club imo. You can't simply curve fit the last two windows to suit your argument. we spent NOTHING in two windows prior to last summer (and boy did we pay the price for that folly)

I think Rose, Wanyama, Vertonghen, Vorm and CCV are guaranteed to leave, although if we recoup more than £15m from those departures I'll be surprised.

As many others have said, a loan for Foyth and Skipp would be ideal, either elsewhere in the Prem or maybe somewhere like Serie A for Foyth. I'm sure Levy would manage to wangle a loan fee for the pair, perhaps in the region of £4m total.

Add in a potential £20m for Dier and that's six squad places created but only £39m brought in.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lamela leave for in the region of £20m, and Lucas for £35m.

That would leave us 8 squad places to fill, with £94m. Add in whatever investment the board already have earmarked and you'd have to think we could do a pretty solid rebuild from there.

That's not taking into account players like Aurier and KWP on whom I'd imagine the jury is very much still out.

Agree, the players we all want to go will bring in virtually nothing (except freeing up squad places and wages) so if, we need to raise extra funds for a larger rebuild, Lucas seems to me to be the obvious choice, as he's the only player who could be seen as expendable, but would bring in a decent fee.

Its proving difficult to shift our deadwood, due to a number of factors. Their wages, although we ain't the biggest payers, some are on decent money, which many other teams can't afford, a reluctance to drop down a level or two and Levy's unrealistic valuations.

lol Why go by the last 2 windows since we finished the stadium and we OBVIOUSLY have money to spend now...just go by the last 4 windows just because it suits a certain narrative.

Outs:
Wanyama
Lamela
Vertonghen
Dier

Loan to perm:
Rose
KWP
CCV

Maybe sells:
Aurier
Sissoko (depending on recovery)

Fresh loans:
Foyth (Loan)
Skipp (Loan)

Think we'll buy:
Striker such as Edouard at Celtic
Soumare
Eze
McNeil
Ferguson
Cancelo
O'Connell
LB such as Jamal.L at Norwich
GK some unknown English 3rd choice keeper

BUt that's 9 players in - which, is a lot.
No way we need that many in. 4 or 5 will do it. CB, CM, RB, Striker priorities. Should be fine at LB with Davies, RS, JT and Cirkin? No idea where another LW fits in and Aurier would be a very solid squad player. One step at a time, quiet revolution without necessarily completely ripping up the squad and chemistry.

CAM the icing on the cake.

JM will not sell anyone. Levy will. What will be interesting is whether Levy will offload the deadwood without making a profit on them.
