Which Spurs Striker Would You Choose?

If you could have any of our previous strikers up front, who would you choose?

JimmyG1 but then I would say that wouldn't I.
Does anyone at Spurs come anywhere near his scoring record
at every club and at every level?
Doesn't fit the system? Change the system.

Having watched almost every one of Jimmys games for us and as he is my all time hero he was undoubtedly our best ever striker. However, he was a small man not very good in the air and never played with his back to the goal. His most effective time with us was when partnered with Gilly and previous to that Smudger Smith.
He couldnt play a lone striker role in the manner we now know. Howeve with a team like Barcalona he could play the Messi role and score as may as Messi, but it would take a team of that sort to allow him to take on that role.
My dream partnership with other strikers for him would be with either Chivers or Klinsmann.
If we had either of those two partnerships in the present team they would be good for 50 league goals a season.

For sheer volume of goals, it's got to be Greaves. But I'd literally shit my own body weight in molten steel to watch Berbatov in a Spurs shirt again.

In my living memory our best strikers have been, in chronological order: Allen, Lineker, Klinsmann/Sheringham partnership and Berbatov.

I went for Greaves for the purposes of this poll - his record, and the footage I've seen of him speaks for itself. What a striker!
I think he would "fit our system" too... it's not like we lump the ball long (unless Daws is playing) so his aerial prowess wouldn't be called into question.

I suppose, in theory, Clive Allen would be the obvious fit... or maybe Berbatov.

I think Ferdinand in his prime is worthy of a mention, due to his strength, pace and finishing - all essential attributes for a lone man leading the line

The problem is, however, he was on the wane when we paid silly money for him so I never saw him in his prime

Probably Klinsmann for me

Big Chiv for me, strength, skill, movement, heading and an eye for goal. Could hold the ball up and score a great individual goal.

I was too young to see the older guys, my first home game being Klinsmann's bicycle kick goal vs Everton.

I think if you took our squad now you want to see a guy that can play up top on his own and bring others into the game so the 2 players I can remember in my time that fit this role perfectly were Berba and Kanoute. Sheringham could link play beautifully but was of course at his peak in a different time, different game - he dropped between the lines beautifully but I actually think lone frontmen at the moment get a bit more joy pulling out wide (OK OK Messi Messi Messi False 9 I get it) where the space is.

Berbatov and Kanoute's velcro touch would suit us so well, although I get the impression AVB is after a pure goalscorer in what I imagine would be a desire to move us gradually towards his 4-3-3, like he had at Porto in Falcao. Trouble is, there ain't many Falcao's around who will score a phenomenal amount of goals.

If I've ever had a hero , it would be Greaves . However I'm not sure of his place in the modern game . There would be no pretence of pressing for example...his cigarette and alcohol consumption would make it harder to do the work expected .

Its a more physical now in the sense that players need to be athletic . Not sure JG would get his head around all that .

Anyway Klinsi for me...

Whilst Greavsie is my favourlite player and was a genius of a striker he fed off Bobby Smith and after him Gilzean. He was, and still is, quite short although he did score some with his head they were few and far between. In view of the fact that the player with the record number of goals in a season is Clive Allen, with 49, I went for him.

Berbatov>Klinsmann AINEC

Gonna get a lot of disagrees but I don't care cos omars always right

We had a prime Berbatov but Klinsmann was way past his best. The league was much stronger when Berbs played.

Voted Greaves, obv

Klinsmann was in his prime when he signed for us! It's like saying RVP is past his prime now.

He played for Bayern for three years after us scoring a goal every other game.

Has to be Herr Klinsmann IMHO -- he scores and wins in every squad he plays in :joyful:

I went with Clive Allen, scored 49 goals in 1 season playing as a lone striker, would fit perfect todays system
