Which Spurs players would you describe as being ‘genius’?

I'm with the consensus here. Hoddle, Greaves (I am told), Gascoigne are shoe-ins, the likes of Modric, Berbatov, Dembele and Bale probably also. Kane deserves to be in that bracket.

But I have to say, Kulusevski is showing signs of it being possible. He seems miles ahead of everyone on the pitch to me. Give us another 5 years of this and he could be in the list.

Genius much like world class, gets thrown about quite a lot. To me the real genius players are those with an almost supernatural ability on the ball, players like Maradona, Ronaldinho, Messi to name a few.
Gazza is the only one of my time watching football who fills this. His close control, his upper body strength, dribbling, short passing, long passing he had the whole bag. He was once in a generation talent, watch some of his stuff back, it is out of this world. Dribbling around 4/5 players like they were not even there, then pulling off worldie goals. Had he not had his demons it’s frightening to think what he could have been.
I’ve seen amazing players Bale, Berba, Ginola and they are rightly held very highly.
My opinion is Gazza only fits the genius billing.
I’m not going back to Hoddle as I was a bit to young, this is my onions from my time as a fan.

I have no first hand knowledge pre 1998 but since then the players which to my mind fit the ‘genius’ tag best (not necessarily the best players but - my definition- those with a combination of artistry, brilliance and invention in their play) are Modric and Berbatov. It’s early days but I agree with the above that Kulusevski looks to have the potential to be the next name on this short list.

I'd stick Van Der Vaart in there too but yea for sure Modric and Berbatov were truly 'wow' players in terms of their 'genius', post 1998, possibly Bale but he was mabye more powerful than genius, you could also throw in Dembele given what everyone says about him who have played with him.

Poch said Dembele was up there with Ronaldiniho in terms of genius players also.

Pre 1998 I'd throw in Ginola, Gazza and Hoddle.

Dark horse candidate: Teddy Sheringham- positioning for goals and assists, always thinking ahead of receiving the ball- the "extra yard in the head"...
