It hasn't gone wrong, so much as other teams have gotten a lot, lot better in the PL.

I'm all for reminiscing about the past and how good it was but is it really worth a new thread? Not to be a forum nazi but really??

i can remember watching the final game of that season in a pub in 'Patrick's' in Beckenham (had 2 floors and would show live prem games on some dodgy Arab satalite station. Anyone know it?).

There were about 30+ of us spurs fans in the downstairs bar, and the goons were upstairs watching the Ar5ena1 v Wigan game, and we were all generating one of the best atmospheres that i've ever experienced in a pub.

Cheers were going up evry 5 minutes from both bars, depending on who was scoring, a there was a fair bit of singing between both sets of fans towards each other.

Anyway, come the end of the game (and we all know the outcome of that ) despite being absolutely gutted, the entire downstairs bar broke into a full rendition of 'oh when the Spurs go marching in'. No holding back, full on, top of our voices. It was absolutely spine tingling!!!!

The truth was that we were all extremely proud of the way our beloved Spurs had played that season, and we believed that we were on the cusp of something special.

Then the weirdest thing happened.

We were all expecting much mocking and piss-taking from the goons in the other bar as we were leaving, but i swear to you all, as we walked thru the red and white shirts that fiiled the bar and probably out-numbered us 2-1, ther was not a peep out of them, not one sneering comment. It was heads down, avoid eye contact from them all.

In short, they were shitting themselves.

I guess they all thought that it was all gonna kick off.

It didn't.

Great season. I remember watching the final game on RTÉ. Never been more heartbroken in all my time supporting Spurs. Me and my father must have sat in silence for a hour after Benyoun scored.

Some great memories though. Coming from two nil down to win 3-2 against Charlton, who were in great form at the time. Watching Super Ed crunch into tackles. Keane's celebration against Villa away. Keane's tap-in at the labrary which is one of my favourite goals ever(I know it wasn't the best goal every, but it meant sooo much at the time). When we beat Bolton at home second last game I was jumping around the house for the rest of the day. I was absolutely buzzing.

But for all the great memories there were some bad ones too. Losing away to WBA and Fulham when we played absolutely useless - and how this site let everyone know it . Drawing twice against the scum up the road when we had outplayed them for most of the two games. Dropping two points in the last minutes against West Ham and, worst of all, Sunderland, who were terrible at the time.

The good stuff certainly outweighed the bad stuff, but what could have been.

Loved David's debut against 'boro.

Spear tackling Ray Parlour was an absolute joy to behold!!!!!

that's was good season, in terms of nearly we could achieved our current big aim and not that much spending, but it wasn't that good which people talking about in terms of full-season. we were quickly out of CC and F.A, no UEFA cup football & most of our wins 1-0 or 2-1... with negative performance in most 2nd halves ( just look at how we were out played by Blackburn at home 3-2 for example, they were much better & nearly won it and took our 4th place ! ) , and don't forget Arsenal started very poor, they lost Henry & Van Persie for long time and they made their lowest points in recent years which helped us to challenge them.

for me, I would take the following season or last season survival, at least we were good in all cups with much better results/performances in FOUR competitions. Specially last season, when we were in the foot of the table, in the worst times, we come with two late goals at Arsenal, then beating the top leaders in last min... one month before our game vs Fulham in boxing day, their manager was still afraid as real challengers for UEFA cup place, then our results/performances against the big four were much better than any season, even defeats like Rovers & Man Utd not deserved.

We shot ourselves in the foot. Stalteri gave away about three or four goals in the last minutes in three or four games (Gallas' injury time equaliser; Sunderland equalising at the Stadium of Light in the last minute; Wigan as well, i think) We should have easily finished fourth.....Gutted.

....But then again we should never of beaten B'Burn at home, so I suppose it evens itself out.

Ah Werty, I was much the same. Got texts during the day from guys saying the game could be called off and then watching the likes of Daws lining up and looking more than a touch green.

Imagine the Goons moving to their shiny new stadium with no CL footy to pay for it?? Damn.

Will never forget final day for as long as I live. Wasn't able to watch final day I was so nervous, so I left the house early morning and went and played golf for the day. Get a text from the old man as soon as he heard about the illness. Came home as soon as I heard scum were losing. Really thought we were going to do it. And then heartbreak, Henry hatrick and the rat scoring. Teddy missing the pen set it all up for me. That was the moment I thought, yes, this is it, the promised land. It was fate for Teddy to miss that.

The weekend after I had to face my two gooner Uncles along with a Liverpool one....thats another story altogether.

what was our line up for that season?

Robinson
Stalteri | Naybet | King | Edman/Atouba
Lennon | Jenas | Carrick | Davids
Mido | Keane/Defoe

????

If so i can't believe that team finished so close to top 4, you'd have no chance with that today.

brasil, taking out defoe, who wasclear second choice that season, and Edman, who was no longer at the club, and replacing naybet with Dawson as by then Daws was first choice, Naybet barely played that season, that team cost how much?.....

Robinson: 1.5m
Stalteri: Free
Dawson: 3.5m
King: Youth
Lee: 2m
Lennon: 800k
Jenas: 7m
Carrick: 2.5m
Davids: Free
Keane: 7m
Mido: Loan

Total cost: 24.3m

That's an average of just over 2m per player.

Now our team costs......

Gomes: 8m
Corluka: 8m
Woodgate: 7m
King: Free
Lennon: 800k
Jenas: 7m
Palacios: 12m
Modric: 15m
Defoe: 15m
Keane: 12m

Total cost: 84.8m

and that's not even including a bench of Bent, Pavlyuchenko and Bentley, all of whom cost upwards of 14m

I agree with you about Stalteri (but don´t let opinion Nazi Nicdic see you mention this, he gave me neg rep and called me a twat or something like that for daring to have a different view to him. )

Your point about Blackburn is correct too but in the swings and roundabouts of luck during the season, I reckon we were more unlucky than lucky and could and should have qualified.
