I've posted it in another thread but statistically Defoe is now the worse goal scorer in the Premiership. After tonights game he has zero goals from 39 shots putting him below Malbranque with a 0-38 record.

Hi everyone, signed up to SC to view the ITK a few years ago but now is my first post. Feeling dejected, can't say Im surprised but still.

Our problem this year is that we've been playing a 4-5-1 for the majority, a formation none of our strikers can fit into. Pav is not strong or quick enough, Defoe lacks the strength and Crouch lacks both the aforementioned physical attributes as well as shooting the ball with as much conviction as a 6 year old girl.

We've only really adopted 4-4-2 this year since the Blackburn game. Defoe is unfortunately very much a confidence player. Obviously all players need confidence but Defoe more than any other I've seen. Once he gets one he can get you like 10 in the space of a month, the problem is until he gets that one he's poor.

Race for fourth still on but we like to make it difficult for ourselves.

The most off form or lacking in confidence strikers, yes. The worst, nah. Not the best nor the worst. They are what we have for the remainder of the season so we need to get behind them. They can only get better and I think they will!

if you combined all the strengths of the seperate strikes, he would be an amazing player.

Exactly - we have strikers who are each one-third of a proper striker. But rather than three pieces of a lovely deep pan pizza, which can be joined together they're more like one third of a deep pan pizza, an ostrich egg and a dry-slope skier with his penis caught in his zipper.

Whichever way you look at it, that combination wouldn't score goals in the Premier League.

Can knee's actually jerk for seven months? This problem has been evident for a long time.

Kevin Davies for Pav, he runs about a bit a bit better than Pav. He also batters about a bit a bit better than Pav too.

Anelka for Defoe. Keep Crouch. Snap up Wickham.

But in the meantime, I still think Defoe could get 10 goals this season and prove us all wrong, at least I hope he does. I like Defoe. Go on Defoe.

Kneejerk is such a buzzword around here when we criticise.

Even when we were winning the strikers were being criticised, so I don't see how it can be a kneejerk.

Pav was good today, he has to be our regular starter in the PL. Surely even Harry realises this now.

No he wasn't, unless the last 10 minutes I didn't see he turned into a hybrid of Pele and Maradona!!!

can we get Obika back? what about Kane? In all seriousness, neither of those two could have hurt our chances more than Defoe tonight. I dont know thing one about Kane other than he's only 18, but Defoe currently is doing nothing.

I think Van Der Vaart and Krancjar upfront would score more goals than our current strikers

pav had a good game today and he scored. actually the goal was a fluke but he was far more relaxed when he took the shot than at any other time during the game, his link up play today was very very good.

Genuine question - if people truly believe we have the worst collection of strikers in the league, would they therefore be happy if we swapped them all for all of West Ham's strikers? Or Blackpool? Or Newcastle?

I fucking wouldn't.

We have a set of good strikers, what we don't have is a great striker and that is what is probably going to be the thing that prevents us from challenging seriously for the title.

When VDV is injured we should play Niko off Crouch like H did at Portsmouth. They seem to link up well and Niko has a good eye for goal

Thing is we have a great set of strikers that aren't really doing much more than the strikers of West Hams, Wolves or Blackpools or whoevers would be doing in my opinion, hence why we're even having this discussion.

I wouldn't swap them for a lot of strikers, but only in the hope that they gain some goalscoring form, which amazingly looks less likely every game.

Agreed and have suggested this previously. Niko has also been seriously good this season for Croatia playing in a fairly similar role.
