I think he wants to keep Sanchez in a positive frame of mind. He's far from his best but with Poch backing him he'll get back to form. At the end of the day he's our future at centre back. Poch found a way to keep him in the team with Vertonghen and Alderweireld. Our best pairing is Jan an Toby though so I get why he tried Sanchez full back. If he had dropped Sanchez after recent criticism from the media he would have knocked his confidence.
But we used to go 3 at the back if you wanted all three in the game, Toby - Dave - Verts. Sanchez is always in the middle so the Belgians can keep an eye on him.

Right now all I can really hope for is that N'Dombele and Lo Celso can turn Poch's recent performances around. I am prepared to give Poch the opportunity to at least get his strongest 11 on the pitch. All we can do is judge him once we have a side that is his preferred lineup. If Poch still turns out shit performances then does Levy really have a choice?

Trouble is we would have struggled in centre midfield because we would have ended up with Sissoko right back. I'm not convinced he would have done so good at right back himself. So who do we play in centre midfield with Dier and Ndombele out and Lo Celso/Ali not up to speed yet?

He is walking ever closer to th exit door with tactical performances like this

Our 'defending' has become shambolic over the last year. Most of that is down to players apparently zonal marking all the time, never getting close to the attackers and leaving them acres of space on the edge of the box or out wide, so they can double team us, overlap and put the ball in the box. Against the high press we play kamikaze passing around the back so that one underhit pass results in a full blown attack for the oppo or we play a high line and congest the oppo half so that teams can score against us on the break. Such desperately naive football and imo a clear lack of strategy or understanding that exposes the weaknesses of every one of our defenders.

Simple. Just press for the ball.

It used to be a hallmark of ours and Poch. God knows why we didn't become better at that after 5 years of intensive training and conditioning.

We don't know exactly what's gone on behind the scenes, but it's clear that it's been significant and Poch has struggled. Let's hope we get through an international break unscathed and start again with a clean slate.

But, the other 19 teams in the premiership is no different, Poch.

I prefer the old, low profile, less attention-seeking Poch...

Agree, but I don't really buy that. If you get knocked down, you stand up, and do it better next time.
Trying to keep him in the side, with so utter pointless a tactic to play him at RB can cost you points in the PL. Then I really don't care if he looses his confidence.
