A colleague of mine has grown a moustache. No beard, just a moustache.
In the old days, I’d have laughed in his face but, now that we live in more enlightened times where one treats one’s colleagues with respect, I waited until he had left the room and then took the piss behind his back.
Anyway, one thing followed another, and the conversation moved onto footballers and moustaches. Yes, there’s a fair bit of the old full facial hair thing going on, whether it be the James ‘had a bit of a rough weekend’ Maddison or the Rodrigo ‘I sleep under a bridge and drink Thunderbird’ Bentancur, but moustaches on their own seem a rarity in recent years.
Which led me to ponder two questions.
How many Tottenham players have sported the ‘yes to the moustache, no to the beard’ look (because the only one who immediately came to mind was Terry Naylor)?
And which Tottenham players have had the best and worst barnets to your recollection? Photographic evidence would be nice.
This version of Assou-Ekotto gets my vote for the best.
Conversely, this wasn’t Ian Walker’s finest moment…
Over to you.
