I'd go with a squad something like:

Hart
Butland
Forster

Clyne
Walker
Cahill
Smalling
Stones
Rose
A.N. Other (for me Bertrand or Gibbs, I'm not a massive fan of Baines in the last year or so, Shaw would be too much of a risk)

Dier
Henderson
Drinkwater (for me all he has to do his put in a couple of competent displays prior to the summer, squad needs another deep midfield option who can move the ball and he is top of the pecking order.)
Wilshere (if fit, not looking likely)
Alli
Barkley
Lallana

Sterling
Walcott
Welbeck
Sturridge (again yes, if fit)
Vardy
Kane

Defence is our weakest area for both quality and options, so accept it and load the squad with attacking options. Only taking three centre backs is a risk, but Dier can drop back if needed. I want pacey specialist fullbacks, not out of position utility dross 'doing a job'. Ahead of that a lot of versatile options to choose from with a mix of pace, energy and a bit of flair and technical ability, and players who should be able to press and get stuck in. At this point it is gambling on the fitness of a couple of players, but they are part of a wide set of options and not integral the team with everything based around them. Rooney wouldn't be in my squad currently, and I seriously hope we forgo the usual utility dross such as Jones and Milner, you can pick a versatile squad without including them.

Quite depressing really when you look at the options not in your main squad - a few who are ok, but too too many who are not the right quality or always injured.

The leading alternatives to me are probably :

GK - Tom Heaton or wild card David Button (doing well in Championship)
Defenders - Ryan Bertrand (LB), Kieran Gibbs (LB), Phil Jones CB, Phil Jagielka (CB), Luke Shaw (LB)...and in the absence of other RB's, Kieran Trippier
Midfield - Ryan Mason, Jonjo Shelvey, Fabian Delph, Michael Carrick, Jack Wilshire, Tom Cleverley, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andros Townsend, James Milner
Forwards - Wayne Rooney, Danny Ings, Charlie Austin

Anyone notable who could be an alternative I've missed ?

Once Kane scored the game really changed. Germany perhaps had relaxed a bit so when England stepped up play they had no answer. Noticeable that the longer the game went on the stronger we looked and at the heart were our four players ... all of whom Roy kept on for the entire game

I know that annoyed quite a few people on here, but it shows the trust he has in them as he clearly wanted his best players on to win the game. Hopefully he'll rest Kane, Dier, and Alli for the next game. Rose too if possible... Not sure there are any other options at left back though?

I'm not sure how? that team picked itself and the tactics weren't his, I will go as far as well done for turning up.

the fecker didn't get out his seat when Kane scored.

Bit ignorant to suggest that, he's been managing for over 20 years, it's probably safe to say he knows what he's doing.

Yes I hope he does rest them and agree that he showed confidence in our players. He knows they not only are physically fit but are showing a rare mental strength in such young players

I think the biggest thing that has held England back isn't infact a playmaker, nor the manager, nor the expectation by the media, nor an out of form Rooney, it's the mentality that the players have had. Last night showed that if you have the right attitude you can go toe to toe against anyone and our boys were a shining example of this.

Henderson actually has done well in that role for Liverpool last season(not this season) which is why he has been selected
we also have
Wilshere
Mason(before his injury) did really well in his cameo
Shelvey - though he annoys me because people laud over his long balls but for me he needs to move the ball quicker, instead of studying the pitch after his first touch and before he hits it

A lot countries don't have deep playmakers anymore including the favourites for the Euro's

In terms of playmakers further up the pitch, we have Lallana and Barkley(though he is getting too greedy and not looking up)

No doubt our boys plus vardy were head and shoulders above the rest of the team as proven by the graphic provided by @Spursidol.
I also noticed Can was aggressive towards our boys as well as the rest of the pool players looking very average (which only boosts my confidence for next week).
Imo Rooney/sturridge/wellbeck/lallana and henderson have a lot to prove in a small amount of time if they want to make the squad, let alone the bench.

Ps

Rb Walker before Clyne all day for me (y)

Wondering when Hodgson will actually get a bit of credit, I know he's unpopular, talks a bit funny and resembles an animal but let's give the guy his dues here for once.
Why, because after Kane pulled one back, he decided to set the team up in the way that 90% of the fans already said he should from the start?

Looks like Butland will miss the Euros.

Jack Butland has fractured his ankle. May be out for up to 3 months but it's hoped he could return sooner. I'm told it's a 'nasty' injury.
Hart needs to get fit now if England are going to get anywhere this summer. Forster isn't top drawer despite what some say and the fact that Tom Heaton was drafted in as fourth choice says all about the backup.

Really, given some of the team selections for England and Liverpool you could say that he's used a dart board when selecting players by name rather than form.

this is the first team that was picked on form for a game with a no lose outcome, we win he takes the plaudits, we lose and he says all the big name are out.

us winning with that team give him more problems

Forster has been arguably the most consistent english goalkeeper in the league for the past two seasons

He may not be the prophesied one like Butland but he has been great for southampton

Last season - 30 games, 14 clean sheets and 21 goals conceded
This season - 11 games, 6 clean sheets and 8 goals conceded

Compare that to Hart
Last season - 36 games, 14 clean sheets and 34 goals conceded
This season - 28 games, 13 clean sheets and 28 goals conceded

In terms of per match he is better than Hart, also Southampton has really missed him more than the players they lost imo. I wasn't a fan when he was at celtic and Norwich but he has been great for southampton
