I'm not sure I've ever seen a side secure 4th with a rotating cast of inept defenders. We simply do not have the quality at CB which is one of the most crucial positions on the pitch.

Yep - look what happened to Liverpool with the loss of one CB

Not from me! Never wanted him.

I thought it was good to have a managerial legend like him join our club. Today if I had to make a choice to keep him or keep Sissoko, Lamela, Winks, Dier, Dele, Sanchez, Lo Celso (quite a few other names as well), I would prefer to keep him. There is only so far players can take you. This lot were complete rubbish under Poch and have made Jose look ordinary as well. I can draw a direct comparison to Jurgen Klopp. For the last 2-3 years, he was this tactical genius who out thought other managers with positive attacking pressing football. He loses his main centre back and suddenly he is this bumbling clown who has no clue what is happening to his team and cannot bring his team together, cannot motivate or manage them etc etc.

They lost 7-2 to Villa with Van Dijk and had been in rocky form with him regardless.

What hurt Liverpool more was other CBs getting injured and midfielders having to move out of key positions. Then Mane and Firminos.form dipped massively.

It wasn't as simple as one CB getting injured. They'd still have finished 2nd if it was solely that.

Well perhaps not just about one CB getting injured. But the loss of that CB played a huge rule in them struggling for top 4.

Anyone who brings on sissoko when u have Bale on the bench and need to win the game deserves to be sacked.
But Bale would have helped to regain control in midfield which was were they were dominating us as Lo Celso and NDombele began to tire. I would personally bring on Sissoko but that’s a big part of our problem - not enough decent midfielders.

Had a birthday party for my daughter today so didn’t get to see the game till long after it finished.
To be honest I’m surprised at the negative reactions to this game. Everybody has been moaning about negative defensive football yet today we were at them from the start off. Guess you can’t please some people.
We were the better side in the first half and probably deserved to be ahead. In the second half it was not a case of sitting back to defend our lead more a case of ManU upping their game and dominating the midfield as (especially) Lo Celso and NDombele( who does not seem to have 90 minutes in him)started to tire. I don’t think bringing Sissoko on is the answer but the midfield needed reinforcements and I’m not sure who else you can put in there - would have been nice if Skipp was in the bench.
I thought overall we went toe to toe with them and fir much of the game it was evenly balanced but they were that much more clinical in the final third that us.
Two other points.
Their first goal Deir and Regullion( who actually stopped)are waving for offside. Why? Every goal is checked for offside by VAR so why waste your time appealing while the ball is in play.
Lee Dixon is of the opinion that Kane drops back because he is to a degree past his peak, that a top striker stays up top because he wants to score more goals. Not sure I agree with him but it’s true that with him dropping back we lack that focal point in the box like ManU had with Cavani at CF.
I made Hojbjerg my MOM. He’s the only player in the midfield that shows any consistency. That’s were all our problems stem from. We all know that defensively we’re not good enough but a lot of that is because we have no control in midfield. We don’t have enough consistently good enough defensive midfielders who can protect the back four and we don’t have enough creative product coming from midfield either. All of the front 6,with the possible exception of Kane, don’t produce enough going forward- not enough chances created, not enough decent crosses, not enough assists and not enough goals.

Does anyone have a clip of Rashford rolling around holding his face, after he got a touch on his chin early on in the game yesterday?

I agree first half we were decent , second not so good .
Jose tried to shore up the midfield from the bench but unfortunately the quality from the bench in that position isn’t good enough .
Maybe bringing Bale as a number 9 and having Kane sit deeper to help regain some control could have been the answer ?
Dunno .
Anyway I’m sending Levy my CV I’m clearly a tactical genius.

Do people genuinely think if Poch stayed or a different manager was in charge that this squad would be doing better?
I'm assuming yes, based on the Jose hate but intrigued. Genuine question.
I think, and I said at the time, that I would have backed the manager who had already built a strong team, that challenged for league titles and a CL no less, to build another equally, if not superior team again.

Anyway. Spilt milk, etc.

Stopped watching yesterday when lo celso was replaced with sissoko.
Levy needs to get rid of Mourinho whatever the cost then sack himself.

I believe Jose has tried his best but we are being fatally undermined by his divisive personality and negative tactics. I cannot see things improving under him now it feels like we are just waiting for his inevitable sacking. However this doesn’t get over the problem with the players. Unfortunately we do not have the financial clout to get the really top players and that was very evident in games like yesterday. Their top players stepped up when needed yesterday and delivered quality. Kane, Son, Bale and the rest failed to do this, as has happened in too many of the big games this season. It would be lovely if they proved me wrong in the final against City but it is hard to have much hope. These are very depressing times. I have followed Spurs since the 1960’s and feel at my age I am never likely to see us win the league. It is hard not to feel bitterness towards some of the inept players at this club who so often look like they are not trying.

It's first a struggle to obtain top players without spending top dollar, but if you are lucky to get one the problem exists that we can't offer the trophy trail.
I agree I very much doubt unless we are bought out that we will see us champions in our lifetime, the club isn't run that way to chase the success it's a very cautious approach which leaves us as nearly men frequently.

It’s weird. I didn’t even think we were that bad - certainly much better than last weekend. Our defence were just always gonna give up chances. It’s just the way it is right now. I really don’t think it would be different no matter who’s in charge.

But if we concede 70% possession post-scoring, are we surprised when we make mistakes? Coming under that much pressure puts too much strain on the defenders, both individually and as a team. And they can’t cope, they’re not good enough - we all know that.

Our defensive unit is not some Italian team from the 90’s so why does he have us play that way?

We’ve done it every fucking week and had success twice (City & Arsenal) which prove a broken clock is right twice a day.

i said it during the game yesterday, and ill say it again now - i cannot comprehend some are saying we were decent yesterdaY! if side to side passing, not looking for forward runs etc is playing well, then fuck me! we have low standards! i long for a time 3/4 years ago where we'd batter teams, smother them and go in at half time 3-0 up!

We were decent in the first half. Fuck knows what Mourinho said at half time but we were like a different team after the break. Then the subs and the switch to a midfield pivot instead of 3. After that they mullered us.

Yes, he was holding his face and feeling inside his lip when the hand that touched him was clearly across his chest

Yeah - shame none of the journalists challenged Solskjær on it, with his lame "wont get no food"-comment

im sorry, but i dont agree we were decent, personally for me, it was turgid side to side bullshit, and then second half we absolutely capitulated, like you said be fucked what mou said to them, but the writing was on the wall when at 1-1, he took gio off and brought sissoko on, to try and hold a 1-1 draw.
