I thought Welbeck did ok. He ran at them and made some nice passes. He gets in the squad in my book. Just needs to learn how to keep the pressing game going.

Same. Also I don't know if it's just me but last night when ever I'd see him jog backwards to collect the ball or get into position it looked like he was doing some kind of breakdancing. Which is next skill.

Noticeable difference between the Spurs boys (and Vardy) and the rest - hunger, determination and fitness. Brilliant.

You do know that Roy will drop Dier for wilshere if fit though, and Alli for Rooney probably don't you? If he does i'm supporting Wales.

I think Hendo is the most likely to be dropped for Wheelchair. Wouldn't surprise me though. Similarly Sterling, Milner etc will all go despite being average to shit this year.

Pochettino had far more influence on England's game last night than Hodgson.

Unfortunately for England fans when the Euros start half fit players like Rooney, Wilshere and Sterling will all be in the starting lineup and Hodgson will revert to boring defensive type.

Exactly. Hodgson fluked it last night purely because he had no other choice. Does anyone really believe that side would have started last night had Rooney, Wilshere and Sterling been fit? Not a chance.

That result last night was down to Pochettino and to a lesser degree Klopp. In fact I thought Hodgson looked a little embarrassed taking all the plaudits after the game

It may be the Spurs tinted glasses...but our boys (and Vardy) looked head and shoulders above the rest of the team last night. It is also no coincidence to see the 'Poch press' being implemented so effectively by Kane, Alli, Dier, Lallana, Clyne and Rose.

England still have a major weakness at CB and no-one of real quality in that position. Roy will also favour overrated players such as Milner, Henderson, Rooney over players with desire, hard work and ability to apply high tempo football all over the pitch

Covered a lot of ground, and I thought he helped break up play. He was behind Alli and Dier but he did well enough. Was his cross for Diers header aswell wasn't it?

His corners were good but that was about it.

Out of position for their first goal. He's a bit of a headless chicken if you ask me. a go out there and run about a bit. I suspect if he played for us we'd be angry with him for not being in position and following out the manager's instructions. Probably the reason why he's been in and out of the Liverpool side since his return from injury.

I didn't see the match, so I may be off the mark, but all I read about it reminds me of some stories I was reading about Cryuff the other day - how he set up the tiki-taka style at Barca, which then became the Spanish style which brought about the most successful international side in history.
It's very difficult to have a team ethic in a national team made up of a bunch of sub-gallactico wannabes (e.g., the laughable "golden generation" of England who won nothing at all). Maybe an England team built around players who play for the team, with a coherent strategy and high work rate (and Spurs core of course), might be the way to forge a national team which might actually win something. Leave out the prima donna mercs and select the players, even if they look less fashionable and pick up smaller paychecks at non-"European superleague" clubs, if they'll play to the style and for the team.
Thats always been the problem.
Decade after decade, Manager after Manager, its been square pegs in round holes. Cant leave him out, he plays for Man U.
We've had top goal scorers in PL playing for unfashionable clubs like Sunderland who begrudgingly get given a place in the England team... out on the fkin left wing!!!! Well he didn't do anything so obviously not up to it at this level lol.
We NEVER EVER pick a TEAM.
Even after that performance its already 'well you cant leave out Rooney'. Then itll be Roy trusts Milner so he'll be going. Oh and Wiltshire managed to walk to the toilet on his own yesterday so he's going.
Sturridge has played 8 games now so no chance of him breaking down (much), plus he plays for Liverpool so he's going.
You get where I'm going.

Thing is that only worked last night because the other players who aren't Spurs have played under Poch or play the pressing game at their clubs anyway.
You cant play that way with half the team doing it.
Stick older players in there who physically cant do it, Rooney, Milner for example and imo it won't work.
Unfortunately I think thats what will happen.
We've got to take it to teams and stop being so God damn scared.
Make them worry about us, not us worry about them.
Kane, Vardy, Alli, Lalana, Rose, Walker, Barclay, etc. Scare the shit out of them :)

But he's going to play, regardless of what anyone thinks, so I'm thinking of how best to accommodate him. He's also one of the only players with the experience of big tournaments.

Yes he has experience of big tournaments but it's only of choking, we don't want that any where near to team.
The next gen team play without fear, we don't need players who don't turn up when they are needed.

Wondering when Hodgson will actually get a bit of credit, I know he's unpopular, talks a bit funny and resembles an animal but let's give the guy his dues here for once.

Henderson was poor imo

I think he played averagely well but that average looked poor when measured against how the spurs boys played.
Our players set the performance bar high and a lot of the other players played catchup in the first half.

Woy was a passenger for that match plus i loved kanes goal, he tip his hat to Cruyff in style.

The FA should name Poch as tactical consultant for England.

Agree but I think Milner can do it, I'm sure he's been taught to play like this under Klopp this season and he has bundles f energy.

Milner for me is always a dead cert to go because he can fill in a number of positions as well.

Sturridge, when fit, is absolutely England's best striker and deserves to go even if he has played only 8 games. He would be perfect for Kane in a modified 442.

Stop taking the piss out of a speech impediment. Also, he'll be playing Sturridge, not Kane, against Holland.

Credit to Hodgson, he picked on-form players in the right formation and it worked a treat.

Numerous posters use this short form on here to name him . He hasn't got a speech impediment either...its just his way of talking .

I sincerely hope you are right about squad rotation...but could not agree with the poster I was answering who was expecting all four of our players to get a rest on Tuesday.

Delighted to see our lads play a massive part in a great win. I always look forward to England games, it's still the pinnacle of a players career and I don't understand the 'I don't take interest in England unless they play well' mentality. That's glory hunting, well, not so much glory with England I guess, but certainly bandwagon jumping at its finest.

You wouldn't stop supporting/watching Spurs because we were crap or boring would you?

Alli was sublime last night. Man of the match for me. He was a constant threat when deployed further forward then dropped deep when Barkley came on and was still as influential. He's a special talent.
Mate, supporting Spurs doesn't mean you have to support England. You can support England all you want, which is admirable I may add, but alot like me don't, so just accept that. No need for the tone taken in your comments

The introduction of vardy and barkley and the adaptation of formation showed what we need to add to our over all squad skill set I think

If we can find a player who has similar attributes to vardy we would drastically improve our already top notch squad

Alongside dier? Before doing that it might make sense to pull Alli back into CM and open up space for a forward line with Barkley, Stirling, Rooney, Kane, Vardy. If not I'd pick Milner as a partner, or maybe even Noble ahead of Henderson. Having said all that bet Hodgson brings back Wilshire aand picks him ahead of Dier.

Cos Wilshere is made of rock...

Chalk that is.

Bit harsh. Yes Rose was much better than a 7 rating, but he was also the highest rated defender and the comment says "deserves another opportunity".

No he didn't. He gave Rose a good rating and nice remarks

He has the four Spurs players as his four top ratings. Only Alli and Dier higher than Rose. Meh?
I just don't think Rose could have done much more, as a defender his performance was pretty much faultless, "deserves another opportunity" seems a little condescending IMO, he booked his place last night. His performance was a MOTM performance, so giving him a 7 is bollocks.

I dont agree with that at all. Kane brings far more to the game than Sturridge.
The problem being he's never fit. If he lasts long enough to get on that plane and make it through the tournament I'd be amazed. So how many strikers would you take and who would you leave to accomodate Sturridge?
Kane, Vardy, Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge.
No doubt he's class WHEN he plays but thats the problem.
Mute point really as doubt he'll be available.
Plus we're not going 442.
You can't take Sturridge, Wiltshire and apparently Roy even has an eye on Shaw. Better make sure that hotel and plane have plenty of ramps and wheelchairs.
