Don't really get the mutual termination of the contract meltdown?

Maybe because here in American sports it happens all the time? But if no one is willing to spend money on him with his wages and still has 1.5 years left then better to rip the band-aid now compared to let him hang around in/out of the side.

During a rebuild you have to make some tough decisions, I honestly wish we could come to an agreement with a few more players to get them off our books permanently to start from scratch!
He and Mendes probably asked it to be ripped up. Its a dream move for Doc

I agree it’s the right thing to do

But this hasn’t been done for the right reasons, it’s been done as pure panic on the back of a admin bollock drop

Let's wait and see what comes out the next few days. Obviously if that's the case it's unforgivable but could well be just people putting 2+2 together

It had to be mutual too - which suggests we said “no future here, we know you have a move lined up so you either stay here and don’t play or move”.

Again our comms don’t look great on this - but every sentence is an opportunity to bash the club so I suppose that was always going to be the initial reaction.

This isn’t something a board knows. There should be a team of fucking people on this. Yeah the buck stops with the board, but it’s like a junior fuck up.

Like shouting at a partner on a deal for fucking up a deeds schedule. He sure as hell is going to shout at a junior or 10.

If we don’t have a team in place well that’s on him as well.
ok maybe the board may not know , but there is no proper structure at the football club it seems to me

Quite ironic that we were haggling for days over 3 million euros on the Porro deal, only to literally give away an international player with 18 months left on his contract due to our total incompetence.

So obsessed with dozens of hours haggling over Poro and you get this glaring oversight lol

I think it's that we've been haggling with Sporting over a couple of million in admin fees for days almost bringing down the deal for the only 1st team signing we were going to make, but then terminate the contract of a player we might have got £5 million for in the summer because someone's spreadsheet wasn't up to date.

We are so behind the curve in so many aspects it's laughable.

Come on lads I'm all for knocking levy and club strategy but least releasing Doherty actually solves an issue. For too long we have accused levy of hanging on to players for too long etc I'm glad we've gotten rid of a player that isn't good enough for us and no one was going to buy from us.
That is a change in tact from us which I hope continues on. Too many below average players in our squad, need to ship them out any way we can.
It's not a change of tack we've done intentionally though, it's been forced upon us because of ineptitude.
It's a fucking embarrassment is what it is.

I mean we'd all said that it didn't look like there had been any planning this window, and that's with the World Cup break. Fuck knows what everyone was doing then. Vegas?!
