The whole point of getting CL football was to take the club forward. We'll only be able to tell at the end of the season if we have. If not then they only have themselves to blame.

Does anyone know if we can recall Keane if things go even more tits up?????

Returning to 442 does seem like the only reasonable adjustment we can now make to get our strikers scoring again. How VDV fits into that I don't know.

I still don't really like the signing of SP either, he is ok but I prefer Niko.

It's been quite a rollercoaster ride and I just wanted to thank the mods, rumour rangers and all the other people running this site. It has kept me literally hooked all month to the point of not knowing what day it was but I didn't care as long as I got my transfer fix.

Like a roller coaster ride I have gotten off feeling a little sick and wondering what the hell just happened but in Levy and HArry we have to trust. They have bought us this far so we have to trust they know what they are trying to do with our great club.

Maybe next and future windows the club can directly link or sponsor the Samaritans phoneline as I'm pretty sure they must of had an influx of calls from loads of us last night :)

Lastly the people who said Defoe, Crouch and Pav were or weren't good enough will be proved rightly or wrongly in the next few months, lets get fully behind the team and hope they prove they can fire us to fourth again.

Bring on AC Milan and COYS

PS. I hear a rumour that the transfer rumours section of Spurscommunity is up for a NTA (National Television Award) for "Best Drama" next year???

Spurs have given us so many highs over the last couple of years but cant help to feel this is the start of our decline back to mid table. The opportunity was there but we didnt take it.

Gutted is all I can say

Not sure i really understand this one either.

We needed a DM and a Striker with window and we got another LM, which must have pissed off Kranjcar somewhat. Not exactly adding to the squad with that one...

Incredibly disappointing window, disgraceful from Levy and Redknapp imo, they have killed any chance we had of becoming a major force in the next few years.

Man City added Dzeko, Chelsea added Torres and Luiz, Liverpool lost their talisman but replaced him with a quality striker in Suarez and then added the young striker Carroll, who could cause problems and form a good partnership with Suarez.

Our lack of planning, ambition and know how quite frankly is embarassing.

We are now stuck with Defoe, Crouch and Pav. Last year we got away with having those upfront due to Man City being inconsistent and a similar level to us. BIG difference this year, they have improved, we haven't. Chelsea will now pull away from us with ease and the other top 3 are all ready away from us.

It's over, 5th is the best we can achieve but it looks like Arry and Levy were aiming for 5th, the way they went about business.

Audere Est Facere? More like Audere Est Fail.

Averaging 1.93 PPG over the last 12 league games, losing just one, is terrible? Really?

There are ome seriously short memories about.

I totally agree. Let`s not get too carried away. To be honest, I`m glad we didn`t succeed in buying Adam. Haven`t we got enough midfielders already? Actually we have a stronger side now, than we had last year when we finished 4th:whistle:

It's pretty clear we did go for players but in the end we didn't get the striker we wanted however what would we need to do to get him whoever he is?
We could spend £70million like chelsea I suppose but actually no we couldn't, we could spend £60million like Liverpool I suppose but actually no we couldn't, we could have bid more for Dzeko and got him I suppose but actually no we couldn't as City would just outbid us.
Chelsea and City have rich sugar daddies and Liverpool just had Torres money, even Aston Villa are still only spending Man City's money not that we'd pay that for Bent!!
Basically this is a good lesson for us, we are not able to compete with the top clubs as things stand, we can't offer quite enough or pay the wages of the very top international strikers and it may be that this is how it will stay until we get our new stadium wherever that may be.

1 win in the last 5 games, and that was against Charlton.

That is terrible form for us, no hiding behind it.

At the MOMENT....that means being trashed 4-0 at Fulham, lucky draw against Newcastle and a loss against Everton.....:bang:

it seems very strange to me that we didnt have a definitive list of strikers to buy come Jan 1st. Clubs are blatantly going to listen up more to offers in the first week of Jan than they are at 10pm on deadline day.

If it was aguero and rossi, put facken offers in on jan 1st

Okay,

So this window is over. I've got just a couple of comments, mostly echoes everyone else I guess:

1) Mods, thanks for all the good work
2) In retrospect either a lot of the ITK was dubious, or the Club screwed up significantly - it just doesnt add up any other way
3) While you shouldnt believe everything you read, if we did throw around major bids last day of the window I have to say I question our long term planning and strategy; havind said that I'd be excited but concerned had we spent 60 million on Carrol + Suarez - a big, big gamble, or 35 million on Rossi
4) Chelsea have been strenghtened significantly, and Liverpool remain more or less where they were; they've lost their by far number one striker and gained two others that may or may not be the sh*t - and spent more money in the process
5) Given Chelsea's spending and our lack of it 4th will be very tough
6) We still have the squad the finished 4th last season + two top players in VDV and Piennar and some added defensive cover - BELIEVE!!!

How we didn't identify several strikers and approach their clubs ahead of time to strike a deal when the window opened amazes me. We really are looking amateur in these windows now.

Amazes me too.

Our list of strikers we were targetting was fantasy. Aguero? Forlan? Rossi? Benzema? Llorente? Having a laugh surely. What annoys me is happy old Harry stating the bloody obvious last night, Forlan, one of the best players at the WC, one of the elite of the La Liga for the last few years wants to be paid top whack, surprise surprise. We must of known what sort of wage he was earning and what he would require to come back to blighty. You have to ask yourself why we even bothered with such targets, wasting time, if at the end of the day basic economics meant we couldn't pay them their weekly wage.

I posted a day or two ago, we should have been looking for the next Berbatov, a player currently undervalued or perhaps trying to find the forward equivalent of Modric in one of the smaller European leagues. Surely our time should of been spent doing this rather than the pointless task of dreaming of Benzema and Aguero, before waking up and realising tranfer fee no problem but wages not a chance. Are we to believe that Harry or our scouting setup couldn't find one striker in the whole of Europe that could improve our forward line? A player waiting to be given a chance in the "big time" and would love to play for Spurs and get a nice wage increase to boot.

The final insult was the panic bid for Charlie Adam. Don't we already have Modric and Huddlestone? Similar, no? Smacks of desperation, "we must get someone in, anyone" and I'm just happy that it failed.

Bring on Blackburn!!

##EDIT - Still gutted we missed out on Suarez.

I'm sure you are all as bored of reading this as I am of writing it, but just because the window has shut does not mean it is open season to abuse ITKs, either individually or as a group.

Legitimate debate is welcome and encouraged - anything that shows a lack of common sense and common decency is not.

They aren't the ones who didn't go out and sign Messi - do not take out your understandable frustration on the results of the transfer window on ITKs.

Thanks

If we were looking to push Pav out of the door he's hardly going to feel wanted now.

That's a good point. It's not just that we've failed to strengthen the team OR squad, but that players such as Pav and Niko must be feeling pretty unloved at the moment.

When the margins between success and failure are so blurred in sport I can never understand why clubs don't spend more working on players' minds - we've seen how well these guys perform when happy and confident. Why not work on getting them their mojos back rather than (apparently) encouraging them out of the door, then stuffing up big time when replacements can't be found?

Well after having a good nights sleep I have decided that I am not bothered.

We offloaded players that were clearly not happy being on the bench, which is a good thing for team spirit.

We now play with one upfront plus VDV. We have two forwards that on their day can stick the ball in the net. We just need Defoe or Pav to step up their games.

We kept Bale, Modric, VDV, Lennon. Woodgate is getting fit (at last). I have no worries about Benny at left back or Gallas in the center.

Wilson can rediscover his old self, Sandro may even get a shot.

We could have broke the bank or "done a Leeds", but we didn't. Lets face it, the world went mad last night. The money being thrown at good but not brilliant players was / is stupid.

I honestly think with our midfield we can create enough chances for our strikers to start scoring some goals. If they don't then why not give youth a chance? I would sooner a young hungry lad play for us than some merc who needs £150000 per week to motivate him.

I disagree, as some of those players are playing worse than they did last season.

Also this has to be relative to those around us. There's no point having a stronger squad if every other team has a much stronger team too, which is what has happened this year with the teams around us.

We could spend £70million like chelsea I suppose but actually no we couldn't, we could spend £60million like Liverpool I suppose but actually no we couldn't, we could have bid more for Dzeko and got him I suppose but actually no we couldn't as City would just outbid us.

What a load of rubbish.

There are strikers and DM's out there that we could have got for £20-25m combined.

It seems though that Harry doesn't think the risk of bringing those guys in is worth it compared to what we already have. He also thinks that the guys who are proven at the top level that we could get (Forlan etc...) are on too high a wage for us to bring in.

So basically Harry doesn't want to take the risk, as if it goes wrong it's easier for him to use the excuse that we had no option of singing better players. For me it's a cop out.
