Someone mentioned last night that we had ITK on Damiao yesterday. I can't see anything in the RO and I didn't miss much in the ITK thread, so I'm a bit puzzled. I'd be very grateful if someone could enlighten me?

Today we will announce agreement to sign Llorente, Adebayor, Adam Johnson, Moutinho and Jack Butland. It will forever be known as F***in' Fantastic Friday. We will all send letters to the Queen to make Daniel a Sir and tomorrow we thrash the Barcodes by seven sore bottoms to none.

Life will be great. You just wait. :)

(This is not in any way, shape or form ITK)

I knew Danny boy wernt gonna let us down

I think I'm more depressed about AVB's comments yesterday. If his words are to be taken literally (and of course it's possible that they shouldn't be) it sounds like Dawson will be captain (and therefore probably a nailed-on starter), whilst we've moved on from M'Vila, given up on Moutinho, and are now looking for the underwhelming Meireles to replace Modric. Oh and apparenly we only need one more striker.
Read the quotes carefully - he doesn't actually say we've given up on Moutinho. Just tries to give that impression.....

Yes I got that. He could also be trying to give that impression because...y'know...that's where things stand at the moment.

Very confusing. Means one of Kaboul or Vertonghen missing out. Unless Vertonghen is going to play this one in DM.

I got that impression too. It was almost as if it was reluctant praise.

I'm not Dawson's biggest fan but the boy deserves respect for his efforts and heart

I'm still hopeful that we can get Moutinho and Adebayor sorted. We'd still be lacking in certain areas but that would at least give us a fighting chance of a top 4 place, which is a lot more than where we are right now.

I don't think AVB was actually ruling Moutinho out, just saying that a deal will be difficult. But then all our deals are difficult. Saying that he did say no when asked if we are still in for him, but I thought that was more a language thing than an outright denial.

Dawson was named captain ages ago wasn't he? I don't think it means that he will automatically start every game. I get the impression it's something that will be looked at when the transfer window shuts and when AVB knows the squad a bit more. As we all know he's only just seen Sandro in training, and won't have seen Parker play at all yet. And could keeping Dawson as captain for now just be a ploy to increase his price if Liverpool come calling?

Or he could be a little more skilled with the media than nameless previous incumbents.

Well we don't know either way at the moment. It's the comments about Meireles that are more worrying. I can't imagine AVB would mention him in order to convince Porto to lower their price as I doubt Porto are bending over backwards to sell him.

Well Id like to congratulate the club for giving us the best possible chance of starting the season badly.

Defoe might bang a few in, Townsend might be the best back up winger in the world, Huddlestone might be ready to lace Modrics boots and Ade might join to give us two options up front instead of one but as things stand we are a bit fucked.

And just to let you know the season starts tomorrow, not in two weeks. If we were using the window and the next two weeks to get a bargain in or fill a hole (like everyone else) then Id be fine with it but we are are still building a squad!

Arsenal may have lost their best player but at least they had the foresight to replace him in advance.

We wont get Fernando LLorente nor LD and probably no Mourtinho either (£).

Essentially we are going into the new season short of 5 players. There is no other top team in Europe that has left themselves with so much to do in so little time.

If I were a fan of another club, I would be laughing my arse off at us.

I'm hoping Levy has a good couple of weeks but it may just be too little, too late.

Why do we always leave it so late to sign players?
Last season we lost to City and United. If we managed to get a point or 2 we would have finished above Arsenal and be in the Champions League.

Why can we not sign someone first and then sell?

In regards to Levy, yes he has had family issues to deal with and has been away, but there should be a contingency plan where someone else can take over transfer negotiations. Season starts tomorrow and we have 1 recognised striker. Im not happy!

Even though I got neg-rep for it yesterday, I still think that's what JJ was hinting at with his "near but distant future" comment, i.e. Ade is imminent but Leandro will take a bit longer.

Even if we were to get LD or Mout before tomrrow afternoon theres no way they will be able to play is there? Ade perhaps could drop straight in though....

for all those people worrying about or transfer situation because of quotes that are coming out in the press. Look at it this way...

If you went into a used car lot to buy a new motor, what stance would guarantee you a better price:

A) "Ok mr car salesman man, wearing a nice cheap suit from burtons and a very obvious toupe. Ive just sold my old car for £34 million pound, and i like the look of this BMW M3, "Moutinho" edition. Whats the best price you could give me?"

Or

B) " Ok mr car salesman man, wearing a nice cheap suit from burtons and a very obvious toupe. Im looking to buy a car, but to be honest, ive got a spare fiat punto at home, and i only need to get too and from work. Although i like your BMW M3, "moutino" edition, i dont really need it, and could probably pick up the old bald tattooed mercedes up on the kings road way cheaper anyway.

Press comments are just a game. Especially when the player is someone who's been burned by the press anyway!!

I agree with you, why do we never learn, last season, i know our 2 games were Utd and City but felt Utd were there for the taking on the day, this season im not looking forward to it at all with our current squad, i know alot of you guys will put a positive spin on things but we look so short to me currently its embarassing considering our ambition. As much as the striker situation worries me the worst i've seen in pre season is the total lack of creativity in midfield, both livermore and jenas whilst will run and move and pass short and square, neither are gonna dominate a game or do any real damage. sigh oh for some good news, if money is so tight have we spent in the right areas?
