There are plenty of decent defenders for well under 50 million, and during a continuing pandemic, if we keep our powder dry, we might get a better deal in January.

Steve Hitchen said that he hates the January transfer window, as not many deals happen, so there is no guarantee we could sign a top class defender then.
Who knows what will happen and if Inter would sell in January.

Conte may start to play Skriniar more and if they have a lot of injuries, they may need him to stay. It's unlikely, but Conte may not even be Inter manager then, so again that changes things.

We could look for other defender like Demiral, but we don't know who will definitely be available in January. I'd rather we brought in the CB now, to help with the games until then, as it could make a big difference.

Probably due to having less money to spend given the current economic climate and we were hoping we could get him for a free more suitable for us.

If we can get Skriniar in, great - but I get the feeling Jose thinks we've done excellent business already and will be strong enough.
