Honestly it seems that itk is beginning to gradually come to the same conclusion as journos. We’re likely done. Oh well. Still been a great window. We’ve signed a DM, upgraded both full backs, finally signed a backup striker and our prodigal son returned home. You cannot complain about that. Levy actually did his job for once in a transfer window. Up to Jose to do his and get us a trophy and back into Champions League.

When I see ITK emphasising the price it just confirms to me the player is for sale and he's there for us if we really want him. I still don't see this as a deal we can't do, it's obviously there to do but if we don't do it we'll have chosen not to.

In this economic climate, the price could very well be prohibitive.

...or maybe the financials are a stretch too far at moment.

I get that the money is important and that is why we may choose not to do the deal but I wouldn't imagine we'd be paying the whole "£13m" difference up front. I'm also reminded that ITK told us that the Bale deal wouldn't affect the rest of our dealings so maybe that could be taken out of the equation.
I also think the closer to the deadline you take the deal the less opportunity for the Italians to add another bit on.

putting aside our financial situation (which is obviously relevant and Spurs have to look out after), we're hardly ever going to get an upgrade at center back for less than the value Inter is holding Skriniar. so, if we're able to hold ship with that commitment, I absolutely think that this deal is a must do.
Is he an upgrade on those we already have though? Considering he would have to prove himself in the EPL. Not because a player is new, makes him better. Thats a lot of money to dish out in these pandemic times, especially as another CB is not a priority

what do you want me to say? there's a never a 100% assurance any player will work out in a different environment. are we talking about raw ability? fuck yes, I'd take him over any center back we have any day of the week.

ITK does seem to suggest that there is a bit of a pause going on. Not surprising with the window closing Monday. Teams are looking at their finances, seeing what they can d and what they cannot. In the case of Skriniar specifically, ITK suggests he wants to come and there may be agreement on personal terms, so it is the price that is the issue. Deadline day moves numbers. Happens every year. Whether that will happen with Skriniar or not, who knows. There is no contract pressure for Inter as regards Skriniar. The issue will be, how much does he want to go. So tough getting 100% from a player who wants to be elsewhere. Would also not be shocked if a player who was previously unavailable, became available.

Not stressed at all. Deadline day has been Levy time in the past - looking forward to beating United and seeing what happens Monday.

If nothing else happens, this has been an awesome window.

Important to remember that only one window closes on Monday. Still have the national one open.

As far as I remember and I could very well be wrong here, i'm sure i read somewhere that the extension is not applicable to transfers between Premier League clubs but we can sign a player from the Championship.

If ITK is correct, I honestly won’t be too upset if Skriniar doesn’t happen. I imagine Inter will be, though. We’ve certainly got enough quality at CB to survive until January.

Alasdair Gold has said we’ll likely return for Skriniar in January if nothing happens now. Conte is a stubborn bastard and it’s quite clear he did not want Skriniar in his squad. From a negotiating POV it really doesn’t help Inter’s hand if they’ve got a player they value at £45m sitting on the bench for half a season. Spurs could quite easily return with this bid of £32m + a/o’s and say it’s clear he isn’t wanted and his value can only have decreased given his lack of playing time.

January more expensive unless players contract dictates a lower price

Telegraph..
.
Transfer deadline day is on Monday October 5. However, to give clubs more time in the age of coronavirus, they will be able to do domestic transfers up until October 16. This will be for loans or permanent transfers between Premier League and EFL clubs. No transfers can take place between Premier League clubs or with foreign clubs in this additional period.

I read an idea on here, where Levy would exploit the current weakness to buy and loan back prospects to lower leagues. Not edifying perhaps, even if it saves their clubs, but exactly what a canny businessman with a billion pound corporation would do to assert market dominance etc.

The best approach in any transfer window is not to expect anything. However close a deal may seem, it is never certain and can fall through at any time, with so many variables at play. I don't blame anyone on any side, it's how it is.

If Skriniar or another defender joins, great. If not, well I wasn't expecting it, so I'm not disappointed or upset. It's been a great window so far and the club deserves a lot of praise.

We could look towards January, but it's never a great window and lots of things can change between now and then.
I don't expect anything else to happen until next summer, but I'll be more than happy if it does:)

Thanks to all the ITKs for all your info. It's been an excellent window and a good start to the season.

I'm quite new to the board and have enjoyed the discussion and banter:)
