Everyone in here missed ryan tagens cheeky liner .. he said

"for today only, im allergic to peanuts"...

Meaning he does not agree with peanuts info that levy is NOT in spain.

Inclining DL is in spain and shits about to get realllll!!!

I just spent the best part of a hour reading all the news, wow.
On the other hand he could just mean that he doesn't want to read peanut's dissapointing posts.

I can definitely make it all day to watch us buy Neville and fuck all else.

And I doubt Levy could get away from commanding his PR forces long enough to go to Spain.

Perhaps, but personally I think ryan and rebrab tend to know a lot more then they let off to everyone on here. I actually think they are up their with the best ITK's, but tend to just let others do the ITK talking and then either agree or disagree with what others say based upon what they know.

Does anyone else think that DL suddenly appears to have considerably loosened the purse strings...could it possibly be that he's been given the nod for the Olympic Stadium (but needs to keep it quiet until the Legacy committee have decided how to phrase 'the best legacy for our athletic site is to bulldoze it'), and is happy to spend cash he had half an eye on using for compulsory purchase orders?

I've no inside information on this - I live in Shanxi Province, China - highly unlikely to wander into the barbers and meet DL having his dome polished.

I asked this very same question on another forum and talked to a fella who has ties to AEG (he has a background in all of that kind of work)

He told me that he may think we've already got a naming rights deal lined up so thats where the money for these sudden bids could be coming from.

It's an interesting thought and it may well be the case. However, some ITK's have been suggesting we have been willing to spend big money on a striker since the summer, we just haven't been able to compete on wages.

How that has changed if the rumours of the bids for Aguero, Llorente etc. are true, you would imagine they would be on larger wages than our highest earner.

Still, if DL does splash the cash and increases the wage budget doing so then i personally wont be worried. He's shown himself to be very adept at running a club financially and i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he's doing.

That idea has been mentioned. I just find it HIGHLY unlikely. He cant wait for something like this and then decide ok fuck it im going gung ho in spain to sign any decent striker I can get my hands on. Just doesnt work like that.

These bids imo, have been planned and are not as last minute as the SSN reports make out - we may well have put / prepared these bids for days.

or..

They are a last ditch desperation attempt to sign a striker as a screw has quite clearly moved in DL's head realising the importance of holding onto CL football, the financial implications, the consequence of losing our star players, our progression there on in as a football club, falling behind our competition and having to rebuild yet again etc..

I personally think its the former however.

Also adiepf did say awhile back that were going to smash our transfer record.......well these bids would certainly put that to shame.

...and I thought I was an original thinker

I didn't mean to imply that DL was running around wildly without thought - I think it's eminently sensible to wait until you know for certain you have surplus cash to spend, before you spend it

And if he had secured a naming rights deal say last week when the original decision for the OS was to be set he would have already had the cash from that go around and spend it.

But as Levy does so well, he waits for the best deal and in his position waiting until the last minute is ideal in an inflated market.

Putting all that into perspective, athletico know that this wont be the last bid for aguero for such a fee.

Chelsea can come back in the summer, they know it, they wont want to lose their best player at this stage with no time for a replacement.

Id be astonished if he joined, and if he did..our offer will have to be around the 40-45 million mark.

which I think it will if our first offer was 38.5, they will find it hard not to accept that kind of money imo

I heard Levy signed up an account on PayPal and that's why he's making all these offers, testing out the system.

I'm in the camp that can't help but feel this is all a publicity stunt. Not to boost the clubs reputation as "big spenders", but to show us the fans that we we're indeed trying to sign a striker.

IMO this is all bollocks anyway. How can a management team not be able to identify a single player that would turn us into title challengers? Is there not one player that they perceive to be a top target? Like normal clubs do? Do you ever see Arsenal or Man Utd put in 4 simultaneous bids for very different types of strikers?

Compare Carroll with Aguero, you couldn't get 2 more different styles of strikers. So we're basically saying "We don't have a strategy, we'll sign whoever we can and adjust accordingly."
