From that ITK, maybe we’re starting to recruit on character and mindset as opposed to purely on stats.
Ange can mould willing players, but they’ve got to have strong self-belief, spirit and gumption. Not something so easily recorded.

Your a fair man Trix a fair man
Can I tag this post next time I say something negative about DL. I'd like to get it in before the Bsodl wheel in their pre ordered truck full of salt and start passing it around while instructing everyone to apply in ample quantities.....

This feels like the club feeding Ali a line here. I just can’t see how Ange wants Brennan bloody Johnson over all of the other top players he could sign with the Kane money
If he's been told Ange likes him and he's our number 1 target it's very easy to come to the conclusion he has.

Ange has said he like to have different options so Johnson makes sense as an option.

However we need another option as a striker.

Johnson and Tosin would be decent business for our final two signings of the window, given the time frame we have left to work with.

Well Ok then. It's not another Spence situation which was a waste of money and time.

End of the day, we need a proven CB and a proven wing forward to be done this summer.

People can have differentiated opinions on the two (Tosin & Johnson). We could have gone for better players etc etc....but these 2 at the very least are upgrades on squad options we have. As long both happens, I am ok. Last thing we need is another deadline day where we dont address the needs.

Great itk @Trix et al. Even if we get one more in b4 window closes and clear a few I’ll be v happy. Imagine January will be a busy time: assessment from Ange etc.

It is different. If I get the green light I'll post what I posted earlier back of house which explains things a little better, and why I've changed my personal feelings on this deal being done.

I actually think it makes a lot of sense to get him as long as we can get the right deal done.

If we don’t sign a striker after selling Kane then it’s ridiculous
Ange himself has said in pressers that he feels we don't necessarily need to directly replace Kane and that we need to think differently about how we approach that position.

He's also said that he thinks Son can definitely work as a 9 in this system.

I'm happy to defer to Ange on this one. I suspect if he felt our number one priority was signing a striker we'd definitely be bringing one in.

Thanks for helping us keep our collective sanity as ever.

Really uninspired by these potential signings. I hope Ange does want them because for me he has the team performing to the way he wants and we want to see football played. I still think there’s bags of improvement but so far so good! Burnley is our usual banana skin game with losing their first 2 as well now going to be tough. If we win that my expectation this season will be raised significantly. Hoping for a VDV signing last day of the window 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I thought a decent striker coming in was an absolute guarantee if Kane were to go... That being said, if a target who we consider to be a top player isn't attainable for whatever reason, I can maybe overlook it for now if Ange thinks he has players he can work with. I think Johnson may be brought in for various reasons and viable ones at that, but I would like for us to only bring in players of a certain calibre or who we deem to be a great young talent. Whether not bringing in a striker this window is a result of a mindset as such will remain to be seen.

Thinking about it more today and I could certainly live with Johnson and Tosin being the end to our window. I think we also have to remember that we're in the process of a rebuild and this is Ange's first window, so it was always unlikely that we'd fill in all the gaps. The players who have come in all seem to be hitting the mark, as well as players who have been brought into the side really excelling, which will make things much easier for future windows. We certainly seem to be moving in the right direction.

I actually really hope we get Tosin tbh. Provided he's OK with being a 3rd choice option just seems like a really sensible backup signing to me.

PL proven, very fast, can play on either side, homegrown, good on the ball, cheap...that's pretty damn ideal for a backup CB.

He's not someone we really want as first choice but as cover/rotation makes a lot of sense.

Spending 100m on Tapsoba and VdV only to bench one of them most weeks would've been a waste IMO.

Yep. VDV and Tosin would be a very good way to rejig defence. I personally preferred VDV as the first choice because he's a speedster and I have a bias towards them. He's much better than I'd thought he would be tbh. Getting two CBs in for about 100M was never happening though.

This would be the sweet spot. First team upgrade and decent cover.

If those two come in it's still uninspiring after selling Kane. They're not bad players but I definitely expected better

Nearly but not quite Aly, although I'm not denying he looks very much like the most likely in(along with Tosin), and Ange is on board he's 100% not his #1 choice.

I've had a long conversation this evening with my guy who himself has had this from the top table, and whilst I've been quite vocal in not wanting him, the reasoning for going for him is actually very sound and makes an awful lot of sense.

It's very much more than just a "Levy likes him" or "he's a great bargain". So as much as I don't like DL I'm not going to criticize him if he pulls this off. It is actually joined up thinking as far as 'club signings' go for once.
I’m going to be very curious to see if Ange views him more as a CF rather than a RWF. I’m still not convinced that Richy will carry us through and I’m also not convinced by Son as the back up CF option.
