Transfers can be weird and the closer you get to the deadline the more clubs, agents and players will want to do a deal.
After Lloris signed, it pretty much came out that we'd approached Lyon in July and talks had stalled with us leaving it presuming that an agreement was unlikely. Fast forward a month and with the deadline closing in, and they ring us back up & say 'let's deal'. Now he's one of our most important players & hopefully will stay a long time, but he quite easily might never have arrived.

not much to report, just this bit from trix:
Villareal don't care either way as long as they get a bigger share of the pie than they are currently entitled to. ATM it is purely a game of who blinks first. We have agreed personal terms and have already seen all his medical records etc and are happy. Only the physical part of his medical remains, once(if) they stop squabbling over who gets what.
