Can I just make a suggestion this morning? It might sound outlandish and crazy, but what if we were to take all info with a pinch of salt? I know it sounds ridiculous, but hear me out...
None of the ITKs actually are Daniel Levy or Andre Villas-Boas, or even the players themselves. Information at best is coming to us second hand, but in all likelihood more like 3rd, 4th, 5th or more. Whilst I'm sure info is passed on in the best faith here, we have no guarantee that it has been before hand, whether it's old or just plain wrong. ITK should be a bit of fun and isn't to be taken as gospel. There are however the rare exceptions to this rule. Some of you will remember the Zokora story with Lennon's Jetset Boots. The majority of ITK is not like that and needs salt.
Most of you are grow men and should have been able to work this out for yourself.
Please add salt. Generously and to all ITK, not just the bits you choose to disbelieve for whatever reason, and to all posters.
Can someone please hit me. My desire/ need for a shiny new striker had me contemplating the merits of Andy Carroll this morning, Andy fucking Carroll!
So JJ has said its going to be quiet until the Newcastle game but things will be sorted before the end of the transfer window. I don't really understand how transfers work. I have read many comments about it being a long process with many things to work out, which I get, but in that case how can we be confident things will be in place by August 31st? I'm struggling to think of a scenario where transfers are certain but will take 2 weeks to sort out.
I don't think I've ever seen a club so exposed in one department as we are in strikers at the moment. In the past you can play brinkmanship with teams trying to get the best price for your player (i.e. like Berbatov to Man U). This feels different though - Man U needed a striker but they would not have been totally screwed without one. We are so horrendously exposed that teams like Man City might be interested in just screwing us over. Abroad teams can ask the world knowing that if the window shuts, we'll be back in January desperate to sign the player again.
If Levy saves 2 weeks wages and £1,000,000 off the fee that's what he's gonna do.
I can live with this as long as we're not sitting here on September 1st disappointed and sadly, I reckon it's a 60/40 shot. (slightly in favour of us being happy, cos he HAS to support AVB, can't just fob him off Arry style)
In fairness he supported Harry well with the purchases of Palacios, Keane, Defoe and Chimbonda to the tune of £46m.
Not having a pop at you, but why would the fee of a player that is important to their club be reduced later in the window? Adebayor perhaps as City dont need him. But anyone else that belongs to a club that has no reason to sell will not become cheaper on 31st August. The selling club will have no time to replace the player.

I think the days of spending that amount of money in a window are well and truely over. So far he doesnt really look to be supporting AVB in the transfer market when he has with previous managers. Eg. Ramos and Redknapp.
Kaboul's injured isn't he?Thinking about Saturday things aren't quite as big a crisis as we actually think.
Friedel most likely hasn't become absolute shite since May. A back four of Benny, Verts, Kaboul and Walker is good as any. A midfield that will likely contain players including Bale, VDV, Gylfi, Lennon, Sandro etc isn't exactly bad even if there is no Ratface, and our lone striker is likely to be a proven PL goalscorer in Defoe (I'm not exactly his biggest fan but you can't deny it).
And in regards to a new striker, who do you honestly think we can just go and buy that easily? Then take into account the kind of quality we'd need to buy to make a difference, they will most likely to wait and see if a bigger club shows interest. If we want quality sadly we have to sit back and wait our turn, not every player is as keen to sign as Vertonghen. I'm sure there's hundreds of strikers we could snap up today, but are they good enough?
Sorry for the rant, and I'm as frustrated as the rest of you, but at least try and be a bit realistic about it all!
A year to sign a striker? The last one we bought was crouch in the last ice age.i think we have heard these lines over and over for the last 3 windows ( transfer dealings that is) . as we are repeatedly told take every bit of info with buckets of salt. i actually think at times that it is best to stay away from this section of the forum until the window has closed. if you really want to lose your sanity just read some of the ITK for June. see how exciting it all sounded and then look at the picture you see today. granted that Gylfi is an excellent signing and his value can only increase and the signing of Vertognen who i am not so taken up with we are still exposed in the striker front. we will all riot should we lose on saturday because we were under prepared in the striker dept. oh then you will get some clever poster telling us we have not played newcastle as yet and we still have planty of time to sign one. after the newcastle game we will be told what grim mutsw we are because there is still 12 days to sign a striker and Levy is bound to pull a rabbit from the hat just like he did when we signed VDV. shit i sound negative, sorry my fellow posters. i get so angry that it can take us a year to sign a striker.
As it stands at the moment it's AVB I feel sorry for. I think he could become a legend at our Club but he needs the tools to work with, at the moment he's just working for the tools.
A midfield with no Parker, no Modric and probably no Sandro (won't train with the team until Thursday at best) but will probably contain Jenas. A striker that can't play in a 433 or 4231.....Friedel most likely hasn't become absolute shite since May. A back four of Benny, Verts, Kaboul and Walker is good as any.
