Rotation needed due to the Monaco and Chelsea games.

Lloris

Trippier Toby wimmer Davies

I'd want Dembele in the cl and against Chelsea if possible, and Verts and rose are on their 4th yellows.
Good point, you just know we would lose s player for Chelsea game!

Kane and Janssen are not a good partnership - their skills are similar. A good partnership has different sets of skills.
I disagree. They could compliment each other very well. I imagine both are intelligent enough as footballers to work out how to do this - with a little help from our excellent coaching staff. (It's not rocket science, as they say ...)

Janssen doesn't deserve to be anywhere near our starting line up.He had his chance with Harry being out and blew it big time.Fat waste of space.

You're a bit thick, aren't you? Go on admit it. You're amongst friends here. Or maybe you have personal weight issues you want to share with the group?

Good points. Personally, I'd rather see him on the right of an AM3, where he has played before and was a right old handful. But I think he is still effective in the 2. He made some good surging runs and had an excellent pass completion rate yesterday.

The slowness of play, however, I tend to think is more about the AM3 than the CM2. It's been ponderous at times, stop, look pass sideways, probe for a pass through the middle when opposition pack it out.

Our wings were more adventurous yesterday, and provided us more width which helped. Vast improvements yesterday though.

Slowness of play - and I'm referring back to both HW and Craven posts here - I would think is more to do with the coaching than anything else. We have players who are undoubtedly capable of playing quicker and more direct than they are currently doing (Son who in the last game showed far more sign than before of actually doing just that, Lamela, Dembele [IMO], Dier [probably, as CM], Dele, etc. etc.]. We have good players. They've proved it, particularly this season against Man City and Arsenal. The manager is still learning (as he has conceded). All the signs are good, though. Poch is experimenting much more now, and mostly it's working.

I would be prepared to bet that within a month to six weeks we will start to see this team playing a more direct and quicker style much more regularly. (And if we remain unbeaten during that transition period, it will be a brilliant achievement, frankly.) It doesn't matter particularly who you choose for each position because we've got at least 16-18 players who are basically top class professionals. That tells me we are going to have a good season.

I agree and disagree. If he plays in the middle he is a detriment to the team. If he plays up the pitch, I am all for it.

I need to really put together an analysis video of Dembele as a CM cause I really do think people are infatuated by his ability to shield the ball and turn, which is all fine and dandy, but it is what he does after that, that has my panties in a bunch.

I ask, cause I don't have to time to sit and edit video, to watch Dortmund, Liverpool, Chelsea, Madrid and the rest of the teams that are banging in goals and ask yourself this. How is their CM pairing playing. Weigel, Henderson, Can and the rest are quicker to move the ball into attack.

Also ask yourself this. Why do we consistently struggle to break teams down? Why do teams always seem to "Park the Bus" against us? Because we play so bloody slow and conservative.

Yesterday, when either Dembele or Wanyama for that matter won the ball, they either 1) played it back 2) played it sideways to the FB 3) held onto the ball and dribbled it forward.

In order to find space and take advantage of the opposing teams holes in their shape, that transition must become lightening quick like Henderson did yesterday or how Weigel does everyday for Dortmund.

Dembele drives us forward when up the pitch, yes. But he slows us down when behind the midline and is a detriment to our goal scoring dreams.

Now negative rep me because I disagree with the majority of you and I talked ill (which I didn't, cause I actually love the man, just think he isn't suited for a CM2) of Dembele.

so far this season Dembele hasn't featured as much due to suspension and injury, but how do you explain our attacking last season as being slow, when we created so many chances, scored the most we have since the 80's, and that was with Dier and Dembele as our CM's, and even with Kane knocking in 25 goals Dembele was a lot of fans Player of the season.

I like what Wanyama brings to the team, but would love to see us play last seasons team that brought a lot of excitement to our games last season

Lloris-

--------Walker-----Toby-------Jan -------Rose--------

---Dier-------Dembele-----

--------Lamela-----Dele------Eriksen

Kane

Vorm, Trippier, Wimmer, Winks, GKN, Son, Janssen

though with knocks and injuries that team won't be possible this weekend, that team above last season brought a smile to our faces more often than not, and when they didn't it was due to drawing instead winning, but it was the most exciting team to watch for many people including non Spurs fans and many pundits

just a bit of a follow on from above @Cravenspurs

last season

Bournemouth (a) won 5-1 E Howe rated it as the best performance they faced
Villa (h) won 3-1 they only reason Villa most prob never suffered heavier was due to them upping their game for new boss
Arscum (a) drew 1-1 dominated and should of been out of site by h/t
WBA (a) drew 1-1 I honestly believe they are just becoming a boggey team
S'ton (a) won 2-0 not many teams went to St marys and won once Koeman had settled
Man U (h) won 3-0 1st home win v them in how many years?
Stoke (a) won 4-0 last win of the season
WBA (h) drew 1-1 as i said above

now that's only 8 out of 38 5 wins and 3 draws, but after WBA at home we never had either Alli or Dembele, and even though Bournemouth was our 1st win with that team it was the 1st time they all started, we had plenty of other positive results for the rest of the season, but due to injuries and suspensions and rotation the 2 main bodies in CM were Dier and Dembele. we never lost a match last season when Dier, Dembele and Alli all started. the only match we lost when Dier and Dembele started last season was the opening match v Man U, but that day Dier started with Bentaleb in CM

Lloris
Walker Dier Vertonghen Rose
Wanyama Winks
N'Koudou Lamela Son
Kane

Subs: Vorm, Alderweireld, Trippier, Walker-Peters, Sissoko, Onomah, Harrison

Absolute slew of injuries and niggles over the international break. Hopefully we'll be able to field a slightly stronger team, but this should allow a few players to make their mark in a London derby. Assume Sissoko will start over N'Koudou.

Hard really to pick without knowing which of the injuries will have recovered or not.

I'm going to assume the fitness of those who played v Arsenal, and go:

Lloris
Dier Wimmer Vertonghen
Walker __________________ Rose
Wanyama Dembele
Eriksen
Son Kane

Vorm Carter-Vickers Trippier Winks Sissoko Nkoudou Janssen

  • If Alli is fit, him in for Wimmer, up top to make an AM3 three with Eriksen and Son. Wimmer to the bench, Carter Vickers demoted.
  • If Alderweireld is fit, in for Dier, Dier to the bench, Carter-Vickers demoted.
  • If Lamela is fit, on the bench ahead of Nkoudou.

Depends whose fit. So far, Dembele, Eriksen and Janssen have picked up knocks this break. If they are out along with Toby, Alli and Lamela still then we're really not in great shape. Especially with Son coming back on a long 11 or 12 hour flight on Wednesday as he has a game tomorrow.

We could be looking at a midfield of Wanyama, Winks, Sissoko, Onomah, and N'Koudou.

Is the South Korea game the friendly against Canada?

If so, I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that Son will be rested for that game.
