Because we're defensively porous and shipping goals and need someone to sit and protect the defence?

if we're scoring more than the opposition as we've been doing recently with mason and bentaleb in there then does it matter? i don't see why we'd change a settled side and i don't think poch will. it'll be the team @Mr Pink posted i'm pretty sure.

We have to start Fazio vs. West Ham, IMO. Say what you want about his pace/positioning, but the man is absolutely dominant in the air. Even though they are without Carroll they aren't exactly going to play like Liverpool against us. I'm fine with Dier starting, but this game is crying out for Fazio.

Sakho and Valencia will look to run in behind and down the channels, so I'd rather not start Fazio (in fact I'll be honest, there aren't many games I'd select him ahead of Dier anyway).

Anyway, as for the rest of the team. Eriksen to me looks knackered, something's not right currently, and whilst he may spring back into life at the weekend I'd be tempted to bench him with the cup final in mind.

Lloris
Walker Dier Vertonghen Rose
Mason Bentaleb
Lamela Dembele Chadli
Kane

Subs: Vorm, Fazio, Davies, Stambouli, Eriksen, Townsend, Soldado

i agree, although that's more down to how impressive dier has been rather than anything that fazio has done wrong.

Townsend could play instead of Chadli, who I've been disappointed with since the Chelsea game (I know he's had personal stuff to deal with, but his work rate hasn't got close to what it was in that game which annoys me about him), but I think we need the goal threat and the 2nd man to get in the box alongside Kane.

As a pressing unit and as a team we have looked great in our two last league games.

So I would tend to say stick with:

Lloris

Walker Dier Vertonghen Rose

Mason Bentaleb

Lamela Dembele Eriksen

Kane

They all seem to be clicking in regards to Pochs system and carrying it out.

However Eriksen is looking a little jaded and we need him on top of his game for Fiorentina away/CC Final..

So perhaps:

Lamela Dembele Chadli
Kane

I have noticed in the last couple of games in the League that Lamela seems to have been instructed to really hit the box when we are attacking, obviously hasnt come off yet (highlighted by a couple of wild snapshots against Arsenal), but it certainly seems like Poch has drilled in that we can't just have one striker in the box all the time. For instance the Kane winner against the Gooners has Lamela in the mix too, he wouldnt have been there a couple of months ago.

Chadli does this to great effect sometimes, the way he played against QPR as almost a second striker arriving late at the back had filled me with optimism..,,

Some really good points here.

We really need Lamela to start putting in some performances and making that spot his own. It is so agonizing.

I agree with most, Eriksen is way off the pace and needs a rest IMO.
Kane, Dembele and Chadli are all rested to some extent and as Carroll is not playing I would definitely like to see Dier playing again. Walker seemed to find some form and Davies was excellent, but I would save him for the return leg vs Fiorentina.
I would personally prefer we rested Bentaleb, who played really well and preserve him and Mason for the return leg, but then we'd have to rely on Paulinho again, which we just can't. Maybe Mason could be subbed off later in the game so he and Bentaleb are fresh for the rematch:

Lloris
Walker Dier Verts Rose
Mason Stambouli
Lamela Dembele Chadli
Kane

I would sub off Dembele, Kane and Mason as soon as is safe and preserve them for the Fiorentina match.

A team that still lost last league game. And with Lamella who is offering nothing in those games. Townsend looks on form to me, play him
Offering nothing?
Hmm the assist for Kane goal.
The pressing and tracking back.
I think mignlot pulled of a worldie from Lamela shot.

Love it!

Nice touch sticking Ade up top too! :ROFLMAO:

Paulinho has been awful when asked to be a DM. However when he is pushed forward into an AM role he looks much more effective and can score goals. But Dembele and Eriksen are both better than him in that position. So really can't see a way into the team for him. But he is not total shit like everyone makes out.
