After winning 5-1 in the last game, I'd be very surprised if Poch doesn't stick with the same team.

have villa appointed a new manager, or are they close to? Who is it?

You see this is what frustrates me a little and its a sign of tactical inflexibility IMO (not you mate!)

Now the team that won yesterday should be still more than good enough to beat a side who's confidence is on the floor, even allowing for a new manager bounce, but looking at the opposition and considering we're at home I don't think yesterday's side is the best eleven to select for this one.

I'm one of Dembele's biggest fans on here, but he's got to be used correctly. Against sides that come and sit deep he's always struggled. He's much bettter against the bigger sides when there's more space to drive into as they invariably come on to us more. Away from home the same theory applies. But when sides come and sit deep and look to contain he struggles, as he doesn't move the ball quickly enough nor does he possess the speed of thought to get involved in sharp interchanges that can help break those deep lines with sides that are set up to not concede.

I would love to see Poch use Dembele astutely. I'd certainly be inclined to start him in at least two of the derbies, perhaps all three given West Ham will come and have a go under Billic and are quite a powerful side.

But against Villa, lets get more pace into the side with Njie and hopefully Mason will help us set a quicker tempo with his passing and we'll see some effective transitions from midfield into attack.

What we don't want is slow and ponderous build up play, camped in and around their box, and them defending with two low and narrow blocks - it just totally plays into their hands. Unless they come and have a real go under their new manager which I really doubt given their current state.

Its not rocket science anyway, its as clear as day where Dembele's strengths and weaknesses lie. Use him correctly and he can be a real asset with a big role to play this season. Would just like to see a touch more flexibility from Poch in this regard.

Lamela Mason Eriksen

Vorm Wimmer Trippier Dembele Winks Townsend Njie
Caveat: If Son is fit, straight in for Alli, put him on the left, move Eriksem central, drop Mason deep. Winks out of the 18. Also, if either Bentaleb or Carroll are fit rather than Son, put him on the bench ahead of Winks. I'm assuming that Chadli is an impossibility.

I can't see Mason AM and Alli CM, surely it'd be the other way around?

Dier Mason
Alli
Mason seemed so calm and confident on the ball in his 20 or so minutes yesterday, really think he can push on barring any injury reoccurrences

We've hardly ever been on MNF IIRC....

Four years ago, Novermber 2011, Adebayor scored a brace to beat Villa on MNF....and then April 2014 Kane scored his first League goal in the 5-1 thrashing of Sunderland...incidentally Adebayor had another brace that night.

But is that the only times we've been shown live on Monday night football in the last four years?

Or was the Bale thunderbolt against West Ham, under AVB, a monday night game?

That must be fewest of anybody in the League.

I think we could probably pick a team out of a hat and still beat Villa, who I wouldn't be surprised to see still manager-less when we play them.

If they are all fit there is no way he will change the team that has given us our biggest away win since the old king died

It's a tough one to call.

Do you stick with the winning team or react to the fact that it'll be a completely different match so shuffle the pack accordingly. Dembele has been excellent recently and it would seem a shame to drop him, but at the same time I agree with @Mr Pink that against a team that sits back, he might not be the best option.

I also think we need some pace somewhere in the attack, and that probably needs to come from N'Jie, although then you're looking at dropping Alli who has also been good so far this season.

I think I'd go:

Lloris

Walker Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose

Dier Mason

N'Jie Lamela Eriksen

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Trippier, Wimmer, Alli, Dembele, Townsend, Winks
It's a sign of the strength in depth we have in some areas that I'd be equally happy to see Alli or Dembele come into the team though.

Keep Eriksen on the left and he will keep providing goals and assists. I'd pretty much keep the same team again and hope that Kane can build on the Bournemouth game.

And Dembele is my adopted player!

Seriously though, the way I see it is that we wouldn't be dropping him really. We're just adjusting tactically for the opposition. Easily explained to Dembele if you're following up your rationale with...'don't worry you'll be starting the three London derbies next month and we see you as a crucial player for those games'...or words to that affect.

All about using him astutely for me.

Well the other thing we need to consider is the fact that we have 3 games in 6 days next week, so giving someone like Dembele a rest is not necessarily a bad idea.

What's the current prognosis on Bentaleb incidentally? Would be good to have that option again with so many games coming up.

Thank goodness we went out of the League Cup!

Surely pace is more necessary when a team isn't going to sit back so that you can stretch them and get in behind?

Sky don't show anywhere near as many games on a Monday night as they used to. I have no idea really as to why although I think a decent guess would be they have less games to show due to BT Sport and whoever it was who had the deal before them, so they just use that slot less. There will be clubs who have more Monday games but that'll probably be balanced by them showing us more in their 'prime' slots. Having said all that……meh :p

You need pace for quicker transitions from defence to attack, when teams lose the ball and we counter them we need quick players to stretch their defence. In an ideal world though we need players with brains and pace and we don't have many players who are able to think quickly.
