Why is the only option for playing 'attacking' football having someone that can "hold up the ball", what are we still in the 90's? I did not see Werner having to hold up the ball once those 90 minutes. Neither does Vardy, Aguero, Rashford. I could go on. These are all pacey and players that are either good in the box (Aguero) or are pacey & like going behind the CBs. The problem starts well ahead of who is playing as a striker. It's the entire mentality of the team, the system and how we're set up. Listen to him moan all week about how we're more or less completely shot. Just now after the game as well. Talking like we're this massive underdog that just HAD to sit back and 'fight'. This is glorified Allardyce-talk.
There is and there has been no matter the manager or scouts. There’s one common denomenator. Dear Leader.I don’t think it’s just JM or the next big thing we may or may not be able to land. I think there’s some serious dysfunction at the recruitment/ footballing management aspect of the club that goes beyond the possible shortcomings of any manager
He outran everybody on the pitch despite playing half hour less, he didnt have a good game but as I said he wasnt any worse than anybody else which shows we didnt approach it right, he was trying to make things happen here and there like on the stroke of half time one of our only 2 good plays in the first half. I didnt see him doing any shithousery things on the pitch
Ambition in terms of actually trying to string several passes together and score rather than sit deep and punt it long.Ambition is winning shit, we're not winning the Champions league with the current state of this squad. Better luck Saturday.
What else are we meant to be doing now? What's the point of owning a large state of the art stadium and hiring a perennial winner? When did we become this win at all costs club?
This is Spurs FFS!
Yep don’t disagree with that at all. I’ve supported spurs 30 years and seen us win 2 cups so I’m personally ok to try to grin and bare this for the rest of this season and see how the first half of next goes hopefully with investment in the squad and our players back, if it’s the same story then, then sure I’d like a new man to come in who can get us playing football again as this isn’t how we are used to playing and it most certainly isn’t entertaining you’re correctBut surely as entertainment, a hard watch is something to be avoided in football? It's not like we have steam of cloggers who can't play positive attractive football. Just a manager who prefers not to.
Agreed, I’m strangely confident about the return leg. However, I feel that to get the best out of what we have, JM needs to push Dele up into the false 9 position, play him like Klopp uses Firminho. It would allow him to drop into space, potentially pull a centre half out of position and lay in the diagonal balls, behind the fullbacks, that the likes of Moura and Bergwijn would thrive off with their pace.I’m more optimistic than most of you seem to be.
Seeing how we played for the last 25 minutes was genuinely exciting, especially taking into account the injuries to two of our best players and attacking threats.
If we had a striker on the pitch to take advantage of our midfield’s creativity and control, and to pull their defence a bit more out of shape in the way HK does better than anyone, a lot of those moves would have resulted in the “clear chances” that JJ complained about us not making.
But of all the tactical problems we understandably moanEd about over the first hour, I saw enough in the last half-hour to make me feel we‘re slowly becoming a far better team than we have been for a year or more.
Basically, I can’t wait for next season to start!
Only play with the players he has at his disposal. He won't just play pointless possession based football with no outcome. Weekend proved that.Ambition in terms of actually trying to string several passes together and score rather than sit deep and punt it long.
Well run but also managed and owned by a massive multinational company.
Didn't say pointless possession, just that we should use the midfield which has our best player GLC . Hitting it long is not using the players at our disposal moura and son are rubbish in the air and holding the ball up. If you are going to counter it should be through the midfield with quick forward passes (not hoofs)Only play with the players he has at his disposal. He won't just play pointless possession based football with no outcome. Weekend proved that.
I’m just glad Jose didn’t use Dier today.
We played shit over the weekend? We had spells where if we had put away the chances we created, Villa wouldn't have had a sniff. You could do with watching the football more and talking in less hyperbole.Didn't say pointless possession, just that we should use the midfield which has our best player GLC . Weekend proved that we are still playing shit but fluking the wins. This will end.
Is that what you took from that performance or were you being sarcastic lol.
Bring on the insults. If you can't win the argument then attack my apparent lack of knowledge. Hyperbole? Not sure you know the meaning of the word in my opinion we were rubbish at the weekend and needed a last minute defensive mistake to win, against Aston villa. We played shit over the weekend? You're being a bit daft here mate, incompetence doesn't get a club like Tottenham from where it was, to where it is today. It’s remarkable sometimes how incompetent people get so high in multi million pound organisations like football clubs
Main criticism of Jose is he should have gambled and started one of Lamela or Tanguy tonight
