games got to go ahead, we cant be calling off games for self inflicted absentees, say they have 13 senior players, but what happened to kolasnic, mari on there books?

Certainly feels like they have more momentum than us so a postponement wouldn't be terrible, it would definitely benefit them more however.

Arteta just then sounded like he intended on playing the game, although did mention at the end that they had fresh injuries.

Unless you’d booked flights and 2 nights accommodation for your 10 year old’s first NLD ?

Can someone explain the rules when they say someone "doesn't count"? It's not the number of players missing is it? It's the number of players available to play. For whatever reason, Xhaka isn't available to play so how does he "not count"?

I read the question eight times and for some reason im confused but essentially I dont think that, and this is my opinion, suspensions or any players sold should be taken into account as missing i.e. they get replaced one way or another by anyone in the u23 or any of their other teams.

If Arsenal for example had 15 players available but sold three between now and the game which brings them under the threshold - that is within their control therefore

Essentially if you dont have sufficient players and the situation was within your control there are no grounds for postponement. It is only if things have happened outside of your control - my opinion anyways.

Convuluted opinion

whatever the 'rules ', it's like the wild west now with clubs realising they can probably get away with what they want at least once or twice if it suits them. The PL aren't going to be able to assess all these claims properly at short notice, especially with injuries as opposed to Covid.

Yes if AFCON counts, then a suspension sure does too. Like you say it's all about available players.

What will be frustrating if this does get postponed is that they recently loaned 2 players out who would have counted, despite knowing of injuries and AFCON.

Also frustrating is that likely at least one out of Smith-Rowe or Tomiyasu would play Sunday but will now be on their 'unavailable' list. There's even a chance Odegaard could be negative by Sunday.

I believe they played a few of their kids in multiple cup games this season so that might be the difference maker.

That said Arsenal were just on the end of a pathetic postponement for Liverpool so I wouldn't blame them for trying.

That doesn't really answer my question (I don't think).

It's not a case of Xhaka "not counting" because he's suspended. The question isn't how many aren't available, it's how many are. He's not available and the reason why would seem to be irrelevant.

Taking it to the extreme, if Arsenal had loads of players serving a suspension and couldn't field a team (with no COVID), then what? Is it a Boro situation where they get points deducted?

Oh dear. I came to this thread to get away from all the others that are full of speculation upon speculation. Instead of finding some certainty it is full of speculation as to whether the game will go ahead, etc., etc. Time to stick to the relative certainty of the Predictor thread until February.

My question is since when did the whole injuries thing play a role in games being on or not?

I mean if arsenal had 13 fit players because the rest are injured... Would that previously have been ground to postpone a game? I don't recall that at all...

They have one case of covid just one.

Yep, it's very confusing. The way I read it is that Xaha isn't available so doesn't count as one of the 13.
They do have some youth players who have played cup games this season. Also I read that that last season counts too, but not sure about that.
I also just read that Arsenal are trying to loan in a player, when will they register him if successful?
I think if Arsenal are determined to get the game postponed they probably will
That does give us recovery time for Leicester, and so hope Dier Romero Bergwin and Reggie are back by then.
Overall, I hope the game is played, but it's not disastrous if it isn't. As we are out of Europe, plenty of spare slots to play it later.

My prediction:

- Arsenal apply for match postponement
- Spurs fans up in arms
- Application rejected
- Spurs fans celebrate
- Spurs lose 2-1

I have a feeling that Dier and Reguilon will start in this game. I hope it doesn’t get postponed.

Whichever players that would be available for Arsenal would have tired legs after their game against Liverpool.

Surely any grounds for postponement can only be reviewed on actual players missing due to covid. They have 1 covid case as of now. Absolutely in my view it unsporting behaviour to hide behind covid when it not the main reason players are missing. Just as Liverpool did last week surprise surprise nothing said about it.
