He started great, with goals to show for it. But we know he's been injured on and off thus far, so lets just be patient.

Poch said he'd need a season or two to reach full potential. It took Lucas about a year to settle.

I don’t think there’s a lack of patience, it’s more of a concern over his fitness. Let’s hope he gets there. Mourinho isn’t going to carry passengers though, just like Poch wouldn’t of. We aren’t a charity as he said in the summer.

Yeah this. I want him in the team asap. That’s what’s so frustrating.

I think the reason people are frustrated is that he's already shown he's our best midfielder by a country mile, and we desperately need him fit and in the team.

I think it's an application issue opposed to a physical one. If you're a professional athelete and you're blowing after 30 minutes of football after 3-4 months of the season starting then you're either eating like a prick or you're not putting the work in at the training ground or the gym.

I'm actually quite astounded that barely anybody seems bothered that our record signing has shown such a lack of passion and commitment to his craft and the club. It's lazy and it pisses me off.

Mate, I am fucking ****ing fuming but for fear of upsetting the snowflakes on here I've said not a great deal, Ndombele has been a fucking disgrace so far.

Slightly OTT no? He's suffered two separate injuries this season and is trying to adapt to a new league, in a team that has badly struggled and now changed managers.

Thanks but in comparison to your opinion on Ndombele, my opinion on Winks not being good enough for the first 11 is entirely proportionate.

It's not really. Our record signing, is fat. That's a disgrace. He's not even really had bad injuries, he's just unfit. He's not been able to last more than 60 mins in a game, he's not even in the condition to try and acclimatise to the league. Put the effort in, and the rest will come.

Since he joined he had 3 or 4 minor injuries which made him unavailable for games AND full training. I think it is very irritating as you can't build/maintain fitness, form, confidence and in our case also understanding with rest of the team as he is new here. IMHO opinions that he is so unfit are slightly exaggerated. He just has this strange way of running that makes him look like he's out of gas. I'm pretty sure that if he will be able to have good run of games he will show how influential he can be. He already showed great potential.

LOL look at some of my old posts on the guy. I was never convinced. He has great potential but he’s a five minutes of gold per game player. The rest of the time he is invisible. Anyway to give him the benefit of the doubt, I think he was unfit when he arrived and Poch’s training has broken something. He seems to have been playing with a strain or something.

Not sure what games you were watching but he played well for more than 5 mins against Man City, Barca, PSG

Exactly. And this is what makes it so frustrating. He's a savage player, we've all seen it, just cannot believe the lack of application.

I agree with some of this. I feel like he struggles with the intensity rather than any deep lying fitness issues. He's said himself that in France he had long periods in matches where he could rest and that's not the case in the prem. It's been quite astounding in the some matches he's played for us that he's clearly been strolling back when the opposition are attacking us while the rest of the team are breaking their necks to cover.

I feel like he needs to get up to speed mentally with the pace and intensity of the league and I suspect Jose will already be working on this. He needs to be prepared to go through the pain barrier to help the team rather than thinking he can have a few minutes off while others cover his ass.

This is why currently Winks needs to be ahead of him in the pecking order. Yes NDombele has more talent but Winks is much more a team player and will operate at the required intensity.

NDombele clearly is insanely talented and I believe he will be one of the best players in the league in a couple of years but he needs to want it more because currently he is a bit of a liability.

While i think a 'fucking disgrace' is a harsh way to put it, I certainly think his performances thus far have left a lot to be desired.

The guy can certainly pick a pass and has good strength on the ball but he is a way off being the player many people are longing for him to be.

Given time, I think he can get there but I am certainly not pinning all my hopes on him magically coming back into the team post injury and performing to the level people have put him at before he has even gotten there.

There is no doubt that we'd have wanted more from Ndombele thus far but in the games he's played, even in the 15 min cameos off the bench, the quality is plain to see. At his peak he will be far and away our best central midfielder but we clearly need to temper our expectations for this season.

Injuries have absolutely had an impact and he's admitted himself that the pace of the game in the Prem has been hard for him to adapt to. I'd like to think by 2nd half of the season he'll be better equipped but in truth we may not see his best til next season.

However, to label him a "disgrace" is incredibly unfair, inaccurate and frankly just hyperbole.

Where are you getting those stats? I just watched a couple of his performances against PSG and another team and he made over 4 tackles each time.
Most tackles, or what look like tackles to the average football fan, actually go down as interceptions when it comes to football stats.

Tackles is probably the most misleading stat there is because of this.

I generally get statistics from WhoScored (link for Soumare). He's also under 1 for interceptions.

Once again, I've only seen bits of him playing in the UCL and highlights and he certainly looks like quite a player. The stats are also a very small sample size considering this is the first season he's really regularly started for Lille. But to me he looks in the Ndombele/Sissoko mould of box to box ball carrying CM rather then the CDM we desperately need.

If we were to sell Sissoko and replace him with Soumare as he's a decade younger, that would make sense. But Soumare doesn't answer our clearly largest midfield issue IMO.
