Astonishing that we’re losing him for about £13m, but also a relief that the saga is hopefully coming to an end.

Getting his wages off the books will make a big difference I imagine.
I don’t think it’s astonishing given what has happened over the last couple of years, if you’d have said that’s the outcome the day after we’d signed him I would have told you you’re a madman

No, I agree with you, terrific if we can get him out on loan and get some money for him.

My only point is that when it is a loan with an option, that particular stipulation (the option bit) is something the selling club have conceded, not something that’s a bonus for them.

It sounds like there may be a buy-if-conditions-met aspect to this loan though - if Napoli qualify for Champions League - which would be great news - because that holds out prospect of getting the £10m a year in wages off our books permanently.
Sorry, it depends on the value of the buy option. Your scenario is simply talking of a low buy option fee comparative to the market at time of buying.

right - but, my point is - we needed to get him out the door. Making concessions was always going to happen. Offering the option got the deal done. If we had insisted on an obligation - we would still be sitting here with Ndombele training on his own.

So, in this case, offering the option, was a benefit to the selling team - just to get the "sale" done. We did not have the luxury of insisting on a high price, or other terms that would be a roadblock to a deal. thus - it was to our advantage to offer the option.

(He would never have gotten to the point where the option looks like a steal, if he stayed at the club)
Sure. My point is just that saying “Wahey, there’s an option!!!???” doesn’t make any sense. “Wahey, there’s an obligation!!!” does make sense.

Enough tedious bollocks anyway. Great he’s off our books for this season at least, and hopefully longer.

I hope he does well because he’s a wonderful footballer but part of me will be crushed if he finds his way to the top of the game after the failure (for the most part) of his Spurs career.

Same, don't harbor any grudges and just a shame it didn't work out as his level of individual talent is incredible. Fun player to watch.

Buying players is a necessary evil insofar as we're a football club and as such, we ain't doing anything without players. We've rolled the dice and lost on Lo Celso and Ndombele but rolled again and won (so far at least) on Bentancur and Kulu. Rather than getting upset like we're Everton levels of player identification, I like to take an overview of trading as a whole rather than cherry pick either the bad or good ones depending on my mood. I like to think I might live longer that way. C'est la vie.

It almost works.

?(When Napoli send in a bid
On SC forums, here's what they say)

When Tanguy transfers out and of joy we all shout
That's Ndombele
When the Prem was too hard 'cause you're made out of lard
That's Ndombele
Always ate Chick-a-King-a-ling, King-a-ling-a-ling
So you'll sing Ndombele
Never played tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like good old Ginger Pelé

When the Spurs make you drool after beating Liverpool
No Ndombele
When Kane dance down the wing and assists with a ping
We're in love
When you see Paratici and you know he will sell Ndombele
Dan Levy, oh you see, back in old Napoli
There's Ndombele
Ndombele, there's Ndombele?

Bit of a weird one from Napoli since they already have Zambo Anguissa who’s basically a more physical version of Ndombele. Guess he’s the replacement for Ruiz.

Gotta be said though, arguably the biggest disappointment of any Spurs player I can ever remember. Not biggest flop, biggest disappointment. To have all that talent and to barely scratch the surface of it. Should have been a level-raiser and instead he’ll be booted out the door for pittance. What a shame.

It will never be in the PL though so they’ll always be that doubt about him

Not that it matters that much, but wonder if we would have put a sell on clause to recoup some more money on the low fee if he ever decides to be a decent footballer again.

I’m tempted to view this move as approaching something highly symbolic of the Pochettino era. It began with promise but ultimately fizzled out into wasted opportunities and directionless motivation before heading off to someplace where achievement was expected. It’s completely feasible to expect Ndombele to shine in a much less physical league but, like Pochettino at PSG, wether that success is sustainable is not completely certain

Great news. The game where he walked off when we were down in the FA Cup against Morecambe was the final nail in the coffin. Glad he’s out of the club (for now). Hopefully he performs and Napoli exercise the buy option.

Easy to forget these players are also normal human beings.

I wish him well, maybe we just wasn't the right fit for him I hope he does well with the rest of his career.

Footballer or not the amount of hate some of you wish apon footballers is a bit too much and totally over the top.

You don’t do it for outgoings but if this happens you gotta stamp it.

I can’t agree with this… He had the opportunity to showcase his undoubted talents on the biggest stage in the world. Despite the odd “good performance”, it seemed that he thought he had won the lottery with his big wages and decided to coast. Not good enough for the trust we had placed in him to perform for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

I will hold a grudge for a guy that appeared to not give a shit and make an effort to perform for this great club.

*just to note, I was excited by his signing and was looking forward to seeing him tear it up, he has all the talent but turned out to not have the drive.
