If Napoli reach top4, Ndombele loan becomes obligation. 3m loan fee + 13m transfer I will take this. If he gets sold, we save 2 years of wages & 1 year wages recouped.
Is this from that tweet above? I dunno if the champions part means they reach champions league (should be pretty much guaranteed) or if they are champions ie they win Serie A which is a lot less likely

I’m like a broken record on this, sorry, but there is no advantage to the selling club to have a buy option that kicks in after a loan. That is only a perk for the (potentially) buying club, who will cash in at that price if the loanee exceeds expectations (eg if Rodon has a superb season at Rennes and is considered then a £50m player) in which case the selling club are getting bad value. If there is no buy option, the club on which the player is on loan can still bid any price - it’s only that the loaning club retains its power to consider any bid on its merits. This is also why buyout clauses are often astronomical in Spain for eg.; to not weaken the hand of the club who might receive a bid. A loan with an obligation (which is really just a sale + an accounting trick) or a loan that automatically kicks in if certain conditions are met, is a different kettle of fish entirely - and can be very good from either a selling or buying club perspective.
We don’t know what the buy option fee is and we presumably don’t pay his wages. WHAT DOWNSIDE.

Dry loan is no option/obligation
What is a loan with an option/obligation called then?

A wet loan? A soggy loan? A moist loan?.............actually, don't answer and spoil it for me: Henceforth Romero/Kulu's loan (and any similar) shall be known as a 'moist' loan

Maybe its time for a new record?

The value of an option - for Spurs - is that we found a club willing to take Ndombele on those terms. That is a win, in my book. Advantage Spurs, Paratici, Conte...

We have no leverage. He's not in our plans and everyone knows it. The best we can hope for is he shows them that he's worth buying.

When we loan players in with options, lots of our fans point out how great it is as we can see how the player does and if he flops we're not stuck with him. We can't win them all and it's far better to loan with an option than have an unwanted player sticking around.

No, I agree with you, terrific if we can get him out on loan and get some money for him.

My only point is that when it is a loan with an option, that particular stipulation (the option bit) is something the selling club have conceded, not something that’s a bonus for them.

It sounds like there may be a buy-if-conditions-met aspect to this loan though - if Napoli qualify for Champions League - which would be great news - because that holds out prospect of getting the £10m a year in wages off our books permanently.

With his Lyon loan and If Napoli sign him at the end of the loan we’ll have probably recouped about 20m for ndombele, which tbh Is more than I thought

Astonishing that we’re losing him for about £13m, but also a relief that the saga is hopefully coming to an end.

Getting his wages off the books will make a big difference I imagine.

Ouchy that’s a big old hit on the fee but hopefully this is the last we hear of him and it’s made permanent

A win? Jesus the bar is low. This is a (probably necessary) disaster given the outlay.

What do you reckon the buy option will be? Loan fee plus anything over €20m should be celebrated.

The buy option won't matter if he doesn't play well enough there and we end up with another Lyon situation. Still, I suppose a loan fee is better than a kick in the balls.

I didn’t say that - I said the club would have known his history and made an assessment. We bought him

I am saying there were previous issues in his career that the club would have known about
So you wanted the club to overrule Poch, but I was wrong to think you meant this was referring to Levy?

right - but, my point is - we needed to get him out the door. Making concessions was always going to happen. Offering the option got the deal done. If we had insisted on an obligation - we would still be sitting here with Ndombele training on his own.

So, in this case, offering the option, was a benefit to the selling team - just to get the "sale" done. We did not have the luxury of insisting on a high price, or other terms that would be a roadblock to a deal. thus - it was to our advantage to offer the option.

(He would never have gotten to the point where the option looks like a steal, if he stayed at the club)
