Not in U23 tonight. How many starts this season at any age group? Colchester?

started a couple for england in that time, sadly it's become a regular occurrence for our youth players to play more for their country than for spurs. what's also annoying is that someone like tanganga might go 3-4 months without playing a single game and then when he is randomly dropped into one by poch he's expected to perform like prime beckenbauer, if he doesn't then it's all "not good enough" "he's not ready" blah blah blah.

We keep making the same mistakes time and again with these players. I don’t blame Poch though 100%. McDermott is meant to be looking after these kids’ career paths and he’s not doing that properly as far as I can see.

McDermott has a decent record bring through players not only having success at Spurs also leaving us to forge careers at other clubs

Apparently refusing a new contract right now. Potentially angry at being allowed to stagnate for two years before this pre-season? Or simply thinks he can get a better deal in e.g. Germany. Either way it explains why he's not playing.

Unfortunately this is the new attitude towards contracts . It would be a shame if Tanganga doesn’t sign because he looks mightily impressive defensively and on the ball whenever I’ve seen him play...(imo) he currently seems more composed than Tomori at Chelsea

He's a very good footballer, which is precisely why it's such a disgrace that him and other academy players have been treated so poorly and entirely unsurprising that they want to get out.

Treated poorly not sure that’s the case we are a very pc club and have certain procedures. I am surprised though if truth be told , as with Edwards and especially Onomah maybe these kids get far to much early and forget to break through.

Why would he sign? Proof is in the pudding. The Poch and youth hype is exactly that. It’s not real. Been proven not to be for a while. And this season, this whole team is playing like shit. We’re crying out for an RB, CB and a CM who would give a shit. Yet Tanganga and even Skipp are nowhere near the team. KWP is in the team then immediately thrown out of it not doing anything wrong and not getting a fair shot at all. I dont blame any youth players who want to leave. Its best for their careers that they do.

I think our approach is wrong, why not loan him out? Or a least let him play u23 games? He’s stuck in Poch’s purgatory that we’ve seen with a few other players. Kwp being a good example 22 with barely a handful of games behind him, fair enough if he’s not rated good enough for us but a loan or two over the last three years would’ve helped his long term prospects out I’m sure.

I know there is a lot of bashing the club at the moment - particularly with the youth setup but I do wonder if the club are just being pragmatic here.

If we had another injury crisis at CB (or a loss of form) how far off playing would the lad be? Or to phrase it another way - how pissed would everyone be if Jan and Toby decline/get crocked and we are then down to Sanchez and Foyth - in that scenario (unlikely perhaps but not totally ridiculous) and we have let Tanganga go out on loan? I know we have Dier and Davies at a push but Dier seems to be hugely out of favour and Davies needs to cover for Rose - who also looks to be out of form.

Just a thought.

It’s upto the manager who breaks through and who doesn’t. Pochettino hasn’t used the youth system enough, it’s really that simple

Fair enough but I think that's a fairly simplistic view of things. Perhaps he hasn't used the system because they aren't as good as the current backups, let alone first teamers. Also, with every single game being a "must win" it's even tougher to blood players now.

I'd like to see us use the loan system more but perhaps it's not attractive enough for Championship clubs to train up our players for them?

There is nobody that can tell me KWP, Tanganga, and Skipp shouldnt be around the 18 right now over Toby, Winks, Dier, Aurier, Rose, Jan, etc. Sorry but none of those players are holding their weight right now.

You're preaching to the choir here but there is a difference between the EPL and the Audi Cup. Maybe they are just not as good as we hope they are?

I just find myself somewhat surprised about how convinced and confident you and others are that they are definitely better.

Id like to see Poch blood a few but he tried with KWP and either Poch is incompetent or KWP isn't good enough so maybe it's not so simple?

KWP came in for a fair bit of criticism in the games he did play but he I don't remember him costing us goals in the way Aurier has. For some reason though Poch seems to have cast him aside but is persevering with Aurier. Alternatively we have Argentina's current RB who Poch also refuses to play. I think it's just stubbornness on Pochs part, which ultimately will cost him his job because the players he is being loyal to are screwing him over.

You can clearly hear Jose say “he marked Ronaldo, make him known

Edit: Sorry Jose said “Carlos, he marked Ronaldo, pick him”
