I wonder if Poch wasn't giving him much of a chance due to his contract situation. Looks a very talented player though, would love to have a new centre back come through the academy

The same contract situation that saw Poch play Alderweireld and Eriksen consistently?

Established world class stars = the same thing as youth academy prospects. Right, got it.

What did you mean then? I supposed it was that "he didn't commit to the club". Just like Hudson-Odoi it could be that Tanganga just want to see that we will have a shot at the first team before signing up on a long term deal to then just train with the u23s.

My point was not anti-Tanganga, which you seem to have randomly inferred. My point was that Poch is a stubborn bastard and was said to have froze out prospects like Edwards for not committing to the project long term.

No, it wasn't really about that. It was more about pointing out that Poch wasn't applying consistency. TA could get away with not signing a deal and still play pretty much every week. Must be frustrating for other players that think they have earned a chance.

Seems like we are in agreement then.

Is Japhet the type of player that could take a swing at the LB position? He's fairly quick, a bit undersized for a CB, is left footed, and appears to be able to pick a pass.

I think he's more suited to make a Dier switch and play as a defensive midfielder role - he's strong on the ball and passes it well...

Our very own Makelele... ?

Can we just let defenders be defenders? What’s everyone’s obsession with turning defenders into midfielders? Trippier, Foyth now Tanganga is better off as a midfielder when we’ve seen what 180 min of him playing football max?

Really good I thought. Looks a better prospect than Foyth to me, but is he a bit short to be a centre back? Idk, idc either.

He was excellent. And I think I'm right in saying his first PL touch was a block from about 4 yards out that stopped a goal-bound shot in the opening minute or two.

Had a very good debut, and he should develop at least into a very reliable versatile squad member. We have plenty of academy lads that can do a job like him.

Second touch, his first was a good defensive header getting above Mane.

Fair play to the lad, worries about him after the Robertson challenge.
