Do these things even work at all? I mean one can buy 10 000 signatures off the internet easily enough, probably even 100 000 if you put a small amount of moolah behind it. So basically if i can leverage my social media network to good effect and pay a few $ here and there i can get a debate in Parliament, then?

Seems off.

Aren't they paying something like £2-£2.5 million a year in rent to the council that would obviously be nothing if they weren't in it?

But the council will be paying up to 2.5m in facilities (security etc) according to a recent investigation so not sure that's really in their favour.

Add in that they've paid 15m towards the 270m+ refurb (the rest presumably being at least partially funded by the taxpayer) and there's definitely a question to answer.

It all looks very fishy when you consider the financial offer that was put on the table by Spurs back during the decision process.

Ultimately though nothing is going to change now.

It's a nonsense really but I doubt for 1 minute anything will get done about it. Its galling to see West Ham spend every penny they can get their hands on whilst getting a new stadium given to them.

Not sure if I want to waste public money on an enquiry when it seems we can't actually prevent the move going ahead or the way it's being funded with so few sigs on board.

I wouldn't sign it before learning of any taxpayer contributions to our own development project either... an embarrassing backlash about Haringey Council's financial input before we've even begun would be hard to take.

We lost out and I think we have to man up and take it on the chin, it's only the Hammers after all... it'll be empty come their first end of season there....

signed too ..... it's not just because it's the hammers nor that we didn't get it. Just seems a little bit curious and of kilter.

I signed it too, although I don't think it will change the outcome, I do think whoever took the bung might get the sack or better jail time out of it though.

Fucking right I'm signing it.

There are actually serious governance around state 'help' in private industries. I think the west Ham deal would struggle under scrutiny to argue it doesn't give them a leg up.

I like that the petition was started by a guy called Dick Hunt, if you say that quickly it sounds quite funny imo
