Spurs & City Linked With “World’s Dirtiest Player” £6M Deal

Manchester City seem to be after yet another ageing holding midfielder as the Eastlands club step up their quest to get ‘the world’s dirtiest player’, Marc Van Bommel.

The 33-year old, who was called possibly the dirtiest player in the world after the World Cup Final against Spain, allied with his performance in ‘The Battle of Nuremburg’ four years earlier, is the current Dutch national captain. However, he would be joining Nigel De Jong, Gareth Barry and Patrick Vieira at Manchester City in the same position.

Therefore, Harry Redknapp at Spurs might be a much bigger attraction for Marc Van Bommel, with the wheeler-dealer looking to replace the under-performing Wilson Palacios in the defensive midfield hole and Van Der Vaart is a big fan of his international teammate.

Van Bommel will cost either Spurs or City around £6m and in the case of the North London club he would give then a bite and steel in the midfield that neither Jermaine Jenas nor Wilson Palacios have provided so far this season.

If he was to sign for Man City, for me, it would be the end of Patrick Vieira in Manchester and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nigel De Jong move in the other direction to Bayern Munich, who are already a huge 17 points off the pace in the Bundesliga.

So, is it going to be Manchester or London to be the new home for the dirtiest player in the world??????

Really doesn't have the legs for this league any more.

Think it would be a Nicola Berti/PAtrick Vieira type signing - a great player once, but past his sell by date for our speed of game.

He could still do a very good job for us imo. He's unbelievably clever and reads the game like few others. He can make players around him better...

He would be a liability, would be sent off loads plus he isn't very good any more.

Couple of years ago I remember being gutted we never got Poulsen now he is absolute shit, Van Bommel would be the same

ditto
thought we might nab him with the martin jol influence, but after that he had his best years elsewhere
we've no need for MVB; WP, Jenas, Sandro and even O'Hara are enough

Not for 6m, but a quality short term move imo. Sure Wilson could learn alot from him.

Spurs - Van Bommel interest

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...-Munich-s-Mark-Van-Bommell-article651991.html

Tottenham and Manchester City will have to beat Steve McClaren to the signature of Mark Van Bommel.
The 33-year-old Holland captain, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been told he can leave Bayern Munich in the January transfer window for around £4m.
Bayern have already lined up Brazilian Luiz Gustavo from Hoffenheim as Van Bommel's sucessor

I am on the fence with this one. He would bring experience and steel to our mid field, but we have others. Do we need him?

His experience would be nice to have but his age puts me off.....people will compare that to Gallas' age but seeing how MVB will be playing CM for us I just dont see him being what we need.

Forget any history we may or may not have had with him the only relevant fact is that he isn't any good.
