Rooney really is doing a sterling and underrated job at Derby given the circumstances.
Yep, hats off to him. 21 points already would have them 17th and six clear without the deduction, and the squad really isn't up to much even in Championship terms. Very impressive.

It's a cobbled together squad. I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps them up and if he does... Definitely would be a manager if the year contender across all divisions I'd say.

Honestly that would be an achievment to rival any great escape in Football League history. In terms of any achievment in English football in my lifetime I think it would be second only to the Leicester title.

But there's a long way to go yet.

Yes and No, he is free work experience. He single handily nearly got derby relegated last season but this season has managed to do somewhat well but players and Rooney all know, they get relegated and have freedom to put themselves in the shop window

The squad whilst cobbled has a lot of talent, Bielik is the best DM in the championship(honestly when he plays Derby's points tally is x2

Rooney indicative of the reason why the club is in a mess, He was SHITE for derby as a player whilst earning £100k a week! He was a problem for Cocu, who was poorly treated and harshly sacked imo

If he does, one hundred percent deserves praise but he deserves blame for his tactics as well, last season derby had a very good squad and were lucky to not get relegated and should have from EFL points deduction

TBH Derby's goal isn't to stay, its to exist, make it to next season and we have won

very sad story to read but I find it utterly ludicrous that bog standard defenders in the championship are earning £25k a week.
Nathan Ellington was getting £25k a week at Watford 15 years ago, almost broke them

Rooney IMO will be a top tier manager.
I watch them week in week out and I wouldn't say from his time in Derby is a fair time to judge him. Also worth noting both him and Lampard weren't tactics people. Jody Morris does it for Lampard and Liam Rosenior/Steve McLaren(before he was pushed away and results went down the pan)

This Derby team which everyone expects to go down, has a lot of quality in it
Marshall - Scotlands keeper for the last WC campaign
Bryne - Solid championship RB
Davies - Solid championship CB
Jagielka - Sold Championship CB but old

Then you go to these players who would are playoff quality championship players
Tom Lawerence - Signed for £8m iirc
Jason Knight - Solid CM with bright future
Bielik - Best CM in championship when fit
Sibley - IMO derby's best attacking player who isn't rated by Rooney

Problem Derby has, its then surrounded by League 2/unknown youth players

Best analogy I could give you is, when Ramos started off the season so bad, people made out we were serious relegation candidates, we were in a bad way and doing very poorly but they were good players playing badly. Players like Lennon, Bale, Modric, King and etc. Im not saying these players are that good, but they aren't a team that should be bottom either.

Last year, Rooney did a terrible job, this season Rooney has done a decent/good job under the circumstances

Drew with Fulham tonight. Only the top three have a better defensive record. They've got a genuine, though still mightily difficult, chance of avoiding relegation if they can squeeze a few more goals out and turn some of those draws into wins.

The other issue is that they may well lose players in January. It would be an incredible managerial achievement from Rooney to save them.

His stock will go through the roof if he keeps them up walk straight into a PL job. It definitely feels like Gerrard & Lampard have been taken more seriously from outset. Maybe they just come across better, whereas Rooney doesn’t exactly inspire you with confidence. Be funny if he ends up best of the 3.

Won 3 on the spin. Funny if Rooney ends up being the best manager from the golden generation, when hardly anyone been talking him up.

I’d love to send someone like Markanday there be a great learning curve and a real experience.

On some level that makes sense for Ashley. I've always thought that he wanted to be loved at Newcastle but didn't provide the necessary nous or financial backing. He wasn't some hideaway no-name investor. He might relish the chance to try and be a "hero" saving Derby. And in their shoes, I'd probably take it compared to the dreadful alternative (their squad even further stripped of anyone worth literally a penny, relegation and an extended spell in League One or lower, with no stadium and therefore little prospect of ever recovering, and a chance of totally disappearing).
