Actually think Ashley is a perfect candidate for owner for a club in Derby's position. He'll stabilize them and get them running self sufficiently.

The problems will come when they get back on their feet and want to push on and show some ambition.

In fairness to him, which is rarely granted, he oversaw them coming straight back up from the Championship twice, and that's not easy. Not even like they had PL level squads in either scenario.

I tend to think Newcastle fans have delusions of grandeur from the Hall/Shepherd days, which was an attempt to buy the league, but they bottled it.

It's otherwise 100 years nearly since they won the top division, and over 60 since they last won any top-level trophy, so it shouldn't have ever been expected for them to win something in the climate of 2010 onwards, where CL winning teams take the League Cup as seriously as the League.

People give our lot a hard time for not winning stuff, but there's a distinguished list of wealthy owners who have found it nigh on impossible to break into the european qualification places, never mind winning things. When it eventually happens, it's a complete fluke with basically no investment and a manager no more impressive than Benitez, Bruce, or Pardew in where West Ham are tbh.

If I were a Derby fan, I'd expect mid-table PL finishes are the ultimate orgasm compared to being liquidated

Not looking good for them. Out of interest does anyone know if Mel Morris would have been seen in anyway dodgy when he bought the club ? I know he’s mates with Redknapp probably not a good sign ?

Please can someone tell me what is really happening there right now?
What do Boro have to do with it?
Thanks in advance

Wycombe have made a claim for loss of income since Derby essentially stayed up at Wycombe's expense last season. Wycombe argue that Derby (Mel Morris really) withheld accounts from the EFL to avoid a points deduction last season.

Boro are making a similar claim for loss of earnings from when Derby beat them to a playoff spot two seasons before. Rather more spurious if you ask me but I'm no legal expert.

It's probably simplest to send you to the Football Weekly podcast from this week. All the info you need starts around 26 minutes in.

Theres nothing dodgy about Mel, there is a blame game going around but he is just a fool who played with fire

He made his money off the sale of Candy Crush
Some hope?
It is looking good but what is scary, they haven't been through the whole process and may not know what they are bidding for

Boro, are salty. Their case is fucking bullshit. They are claiming as they missed Out on the playoffs due to derby breaking the rules and they deserve compensation as they could have been promoted and suffered financially. So they are seeking compensation for not getting promotion money.

Never mind the fact bristol we’re ahead of boro but lost to derby on the last game and dropped 2 places. or the fact Leeds lost to derby in the playoffs and have an equal claim or the fact Derby had lost to Villa as well, who had beat them the previous season in the playoffs

Worth noting, that Boro threatened the league, which led to Derby getting their points deduction. The league didn't want to prosecute after the threat of legal action but were forced to after pressure from Boro which led to Derby being found innocent twice but then found them guilty after it was apparent they used an illegal matter to make a bigger profit to avoid a fine

Anyway Wycombe on the other hand have a case imo due to the Sheffield Utd precedent. The only problem is, Derby were legally allowed submit accounts late as a result of the legal challenge from Mel. So their case shouldn't be with Derby but also the EFL. Derby can also point to the fact this should have been done properly the season before which wouldn't have affected the relegation battle.

Its worth noting that he gets somethings wrong or missed a few things

Derby currently Owe Mel Morris £140m iirc
Mel Morris is willing to write that loan completely off to ensure a takeover
Derby for all their free signings in the summer have a great team. That would make the top half with any good manager

Also he asks how do you prevent this from happening again, well actually enforce the Sustainability rules from the start

Also derby fans are pathetic for thinking the EFL has it out for them. I literally think I might go on a Derby podcast, because they are pissing me off that much

Lots of respect to Wayne, if true.

Also sure he knows that it's the wrong time to step up to the PL with Everton as they are, so wise all around

He’s done the right thing 100% If he keeps Derby up he will be a hero, and have a massive tick nex5 to his record as a manager.

Up or down, he’ll still have premier league job offers come the end of the season. Like you say, Everton are a mess right now too.

If Derby stay up, someone will surely see it's a great movie plot. He's got the opportunity to be a protagonist in this story, which wouldn't be at all possible if he left.
(and I'm sure people would blame him as they do Lampard)

Just saw the interview. His loyalty is very refreshing and doing himself a lot of good. His stock will be through the roof.

I have to be honest, he is surprising me over the last 2 years.
He went there as a player coach and is now showing others loyalty when they really need it.
If he keeps them up next season Derby would be one to watch~ if they are still around

It's what winds me up about ex-players like Sol Campbell (granted, that's a long list).
Rooney has been somewhat lucky that he chose Derby, at a time when they had a manager on the brink, and stepped up at a time when they had little other choice - but he's by no means been gifted it, or doing it the easy way.

In the same shoes, Sol would be suing Derby, walking away, and telling the media they can go bust if they don't pay him.

Don’t know if it’s been posted on here, can’t see it, but Rooney has also been putting his hand in his pockets to help out the club/players as well.
Never thought I’d say it but I think he’s doing a great job and fair play to him with what he’s doing.

Always good to be reminded how much of a **** Sol is

Just caught up on that now. Lots of respect for his stance, but still a hard guy to take as an intellectual.

Take a drink every time he says "irrrmmm"
