I'd love for King just to be there with the squad for the 2010 World Cup, even if he only makes one substitute appearance to help us defend a 1-0 lead against Germany in the final... An experience no England player deserves more than him.

does anyone know what is actually wrong with his knee. Ok we all know it is fucked, no cartlidge and can do pretty much no training as a result.

But is it ever going to get even a bit better, will he be able to train a bit more in the future. It would be good to actually here someone with an official medical background from the club come out and actually say what his long term prognosis is.

This is all he needs...

Stem cell ‘living bandage’ heals knee injuries

Autologous Mesenchymal Stem Cell Transplant

For years, the concept of harvesting stem cells and re-implanting them into one's own body to regenerate organs and tissues has been embraced and researched in animal models. In particular, mesenchymal stem cells have been shown in animal models to regenerate cartilage[1]. Recently, there has been a published case report of successful cartilage growth in human knees using autologous mesenchymal stem cells.[2] An advantage to this approach is that a person's own stem cells are used, avoiding transmission of genetic diseases. It is also minimally invasive, minimally painful and has a very short recovery period.

I think that they may well have already tried this and they certainly would have though of it. Cartilage is however notoriously difficult to succesfully implant due to the poor blood supply. Ultimatley, unless some very dramatic medical advances are made, I suspect the guy is headed towards a knee replacement once his playing days are over. Will mean that he has actually given his knee for club and country.

The only point I can see him getting involved with England is if he could ever successfully get through the rigours of an international tournament where games come around every 3 or 4 days. At the moment, I don't see that he could ever do this.

Sorry, just a quickie - it's obvious that Capello doesn't trust our physio staff, but who are our current physios? I seem to have a vague memory of Dr Charlotte Cowie leaving not long ago, but other than that i can't see any names anywhere.

on another note, the erstwhile Dr Cowie, can be seen in an interview on page 19 of this PDF document from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine

God save the King. I cannot explain how much I wish for him he can one day sort out his injury problems and achieve what he was meant to achieve!

The pesimistic part of me is thinking that if he was fully fit he would achieve what he was meant to achieve by either partnering Terry for chelsea or Carragher for Liverpool

Yep, I was gona write something like that in my post but I didnt want the pesimism to prevail lol.

Ive believed that King has been Capello's favourite for a while. When Capello picked one of his first squads, I remember him being quoted as saying something like 'its a real shame that Ledley has had to pull out because he is an outstanding talent'. Some shit like that.

It's true we don't know what Ledley would have done if a big offer came in for him and in many ways his injury is a cursed blessing for spurs.

BUT if i could choose though, i think i'd choose that he was fit and somewhere else than half fit and with us. he's my hero and it breaks my heart a little bit.

tis a shame. he is a rolls royce of a centre half. and its a shame that he cant perform to his full potential. even though the staggering performances he still manages to give is better than most players in his position will ever achieve being fully fit/rehearsed in training.

If he left on a bosman and joined the scum down the road i'm not so sure he would still be your hero though

Ledley is much better than Caragher or Terry and slightly better than Rio and he vastly quicker than all 3 of them. At his best he is simply out of this world and it is a crying shame that he has not had the chance to shine on the biggest stage.

However, as I said before, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he will play 30 games this season and 40 next and go on to play for a good few years to come, his knee may even settle or improve.

There will hopefully be many, many big games and glory nights for him at spurs and he can end his career having been a great player at a great club! I think he would take that, and I know that I would!
