We have a real issue with signing strikers, other positions we tend to do quite well in with allowance for a few mistakes - that every club makes.

I understand getting a really top level striker is nigh on impossible without Man City/Chelsea money, but it was a solid back up we were looking for this window, they are far easier to come by.

Makes me worry for when we eventually have to replace Kane.

No, it's just a myth that has occurred since Poch basically refused to use anyone but Kane in that role. Soldado was a flop (every club has a bad striker now and again), but Janssen and Llorente weren't ever given the opportunity to succeed (solksjaer is one of the only strikers in PL history capable of coming on in the last 5-10mins and making a success of it).

Well, even at that, I believe Llorente was successful when you look at his 90's rather than apps, due to the token appearances. All that whilst being played against his style.

With the service they'd get I'm sure whoever comes in will be just fine tbh. Strikers have a hard time of it because you can't score without chances, and you are unlikely to get quality chances at lesser clubs (or on the wing), so there's a bit of blind snobbery towards some of the guys we would get linked to that's a bit unjustified.

Joshua King would be a filler. A Dempsey, a Saha.

I have no idea but I'd highly doubt he'd be high on the list of Jose's choices.

We really should have had this player in by now. Not really good enough.

Don't forget there is an agreement with EFL & EPL to trade players until 16th Oct, 11 days beyond the transfer window closing so this could drag on!

even if we signed a striker today it would still be too late. Regardless we cannot play Kane tomorrow. Chelsea see us as competition for top 4 they don't care about the league cup so what does it matter to them if one of their players clatters Kane not caring if they get sent off and we are without Kane and son in the league for the next 8 weeks pretty much putting us out of contention with them straight away. Don't for one second think Lampard and that filthy cess pit of a club aren't cynical enough to do it.

So we enter the final week of the window & we’re still no nearer to knowing if we’ll sign a striker or not.

Like I’ve said before this is going to go down to the wire which is scary.

Alex Crook on Talksport has just said that the window for transfers between the Premier and Football League doesn't close until the 16th of October so i'd imagine our fallback will be a Championship striker

TBF just because we don't know doesn't mean the club don't know. JJ and others have been resolute in confidence.

How do we know their confidence isnt wavering? Be good to hear their thoughts or confidence levels are now!

Does this include buying or just selling though ?

The same was said in January & looked how that turned out, not dismissing the confidence it’s just hard to be confident when we’ve been through this before & been burnt.

As time ticks by it gets more worrying which is understandable.

I don't think it was said in January tbh - the whole time it was about how it was difficult with no options or VFM. That's why I recall.

The thing I remember most was JJ being certain we’d sign one when responding to questions on twitter & something along the lines of “striker for city game” (our first game after the window closed)

Something obviously went wrong behind the scenes, I’m just hoping now that we have more time on our hands we have more irons in the fire.

Okay well that’s reassuring that we still have more time should we not sign a striker this time next week.

The problem with this of course is 2 fold, A) there could be 2 or 3 Prem clubs needing a striker and a bidding war could ensue B) Championship clubs know you have nowhere else to turn and therefor have you by the Jaffa’s in terms of how much they will charge.
