According to The Mirror, Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract with SP and his buyout clause just went up from 20 million euros to 85 millions. I guess that transfer is out of the question then..

His buyout was much more than 20m though. If it was 20m, then he would already be playing for another club.

No way does Alfe Inge’s son, who was born in Leeds too, join the club who’s captain ended his father’s career.

He's already been at Utd training ground and has dismissed claims that his City links would be a problem.

The bigger issue is that Raiola is his agent, and they already have problems there because of Pogba.

Look in the GLC thread for clarity on this. His new contract is pay rise only as a result of us offering deal in the summer. The clause is meaningless.

Hakim Ziyech is proving he's a genuine world class talent. If we're in for a new "attacking" player, he should be at the top of our list. Since he's primarily a pacy, skillful right winger but can play the 10 he'd fit perfectly into our current system. I personally think he'd be an even better option for us than Bruno Fernandes (who I still really, really rate), as BF is primarily just a number 10 (or a very attacking 8) which we already have plenty of cover for with Dele, GLC, and even Lamela. Ziyech would be a guaranteed starter for us on the right wing (sorry Lucas).

Even though arguably our most pressing need going into January is a DM if Dier can't make the position his own, I think we might have to wait till the summer to snap one of our first choices up. Who do you all rate at DM? The top 3 on my shortlist would be Ndidi, Neves, Zakaria. Ndidi is world class and would be my top choice. Absolute monster. But we can rule out a move for him in January for obvious reasons (hopefully Leicester will implode and we can take their CL spot and revisit him in the summer). Zakaria is also a beast, but his agent has already ruled out a move in January (another one to potentially revisit in the summer). That leaves Ruben Neves, who I believe we could have a shot at. Being both Portugese and a Jorge Mendes client, I think Jose could get in Neves' ear about joining Tottenham. The speculation and potential departure of Nuno could play to our advantage here as well. If this doesn't happen in January, I definitely think Neves is one to keep an eye on in the summer. A midfield of Neves and Ndombele might be the most exciting on the planet.

Marc Roca is another player I think we'll definitely be watching come January. He's a brilliant player with a 40m release clause that I can see being triggered by a club that needs surgery in midfield. Bayern had serious links to him in the summer, but I'm not sure if they'll revisit him in January after they've since discovered Kimmich is not only a world class RB but also a world class DM :greyalien:

Florentino Luis (Benfica) should be on our watch list.

If Leicester were back down in mid-table then we might have more of a chance of signing some of their players. They would still be expensive but the draw of Spurs, along with Mourinho, could've probably swung it. However, with them in the top 4 and looking good there is almost no chance of getting Ndidi, Chilwell or Pereira mid-season. Certainly not Maddison. If Leicester tail off at the end of the season and end up outside of the European spots (unlikely) then there will be a higher chance of getting 1 of their players next summer.

IMO Chilwell is going to end up at City. Ndidi and Pereira would be the two I'd like us to target next summer.

The reality is that if we're going to sign anyone in January then it will most likely have to be from abroad. I'd be targetting those players with expiring deals along with players at big clubs that are unhappy or not getting game time.
I think that the era of the top clubs poaching the best midtable team PL players is over (for the most part). Man City and Utd will still nick the odd Wan-Bissaka, Maguire or Walker, but given the scale of the TV money, clubs have far less incentive to sell and are far less likely to be bullied. Look at Zaha: 10 years ago he would've left left Palace 2 or 3 times by now but instead they're keeping him and holding out for silly money.

Now EPL clubs are far more likely to look abroad or pick up cheap potential from the lower leagues. There's no value in the PL market and over the next few years we'll see far more players running down their contracts ala Ramsey and Eriksen.

I would be absolutely amazed if we managed to sign ANYONE from leicester, even if we beat them to top 4. They won't sell and Levy won't pay.

I think you're right, but I also think more players from mid table teams will look to run their contracts out to get moves to bigger clubs. Clubs aren't enticed by the financial clout of the top clubs like they used to because the game is awash with money. Players, on the other hand, still want to win stuff.

I agree. I think Fraser is doing that at Bournemouth and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a transfer to somewhere already lined up hence his drop off this season compared to last.

Just to resurrect another name from the past year; has anyone seen much of Jarrod Bowen?

I heard today that he's now up to 11 league goals already this season. He seems like he'd be a good fit, but I don't know how he'd do making the step up. The same would've been said about Maddison a couple of years back and now half the league would like to have him on their books.

I think we're gonna soon see a shift in players demanding "top 6 release clauses" to sign for teams in the Premier League. Players aren't going to sign for the likes of Watford knowing that they're going to possibly end up stuck there for 5 years because almost every club in the league now is rich enough to turn down good offers. Wilfred Zaha will be a cautionary tale for a lot of players now. Should've been playing in the Champion's League for the last couple of years.

12 goals and 4 assists so far in a middling team. That's direct involvement in more than half of his team's goals. And takes him up to 34 goals and 8 assists in less than 1.5 seasons. He's definitely a player we should be looking at. Daniel James has made the step up tremendously well and Bowen looks a lot more effective in the Championship than he did.

Yes Bowen has scored a shed load of goals in the Championship but there’s a gulf in class between Bowen and James. The latter has blistering pace, skill and can quickly expose EPL defenders. Bowen on the other hand is nowhere near as quick, he’s more opportunistic... finds a yard and shoots. Don’t get me wrong, he’s got a hell of a shot on him but but you don’t get anywhere near the space in the EPL as you do in the Championship. We also had ITK last summer that Bowen lacks the attributes to perform in the EPL.

Zaha's problem was that he signed big money contracts at CP (allegedly on the advice of his brother/agent who would have had a nice cut) but then realised that CP didn't need or want to sell him. He took the money to the detriment of his career.

Definitely true, but it's also worth remembering we live in a world where a middling club like Palace can actually offer to pay one of their players 130 grand a week, which is more than we pay 90% of our players, despite being a much bigger club. They couldn't have dreamed of doing this 10 years ago.

The mid-table Premier League teams are richer than some of the traditional German, Italian and Spanish giants these days. Everton and Newcastle are in the top 20 richest clubs in the world despite never winning anything and scrapping in the bottom half of the table. It's fucking nuts.

anyone still following dani olmo? we were linked in summer

Yes, I am. He just left the training facility. Think he’s a bit annoyed of me at this point, to be honest. I’m always sure to wear other teams attire, though; can’t let him know where my true allegiances lie.

We don't need another CM, but if we could get Exequiel Palacios from River, it would be a huge coup. 25m would get him imo (his release clause is 15m euro). He's a potential starter for a top 5 team in europe in the coming years imo.
He was a signature away from signing for Real Madrid and an injury prevented the move.
The next window will be the only chance we have to get him imo

Looks bound for Leverkusen right now. Too bad we're not interested.

Ugh, that would be another good pickup a la Shaqiri. They won’t start on a regular basis, but having good rotation options like Fraser and Shaqiri is how you sustain challenging for trophies on multiple fronts.

For those interested, Sporting play PSV in the Europa League tomorrow at 8pm. It should be a good game as a win will take PSV above CP who are currently top with 9 points. Apart from Fernandes who seems to be very high, if not at the top, of our transfer list, PSV have some great players to keep an eye out for such as Bergwijn, Malen, Doan and Dumfries.
Just a quick follow on, it's being shown on BT Sport's Extra 2 in the UK for those planning to watch it.

I do wonder what happened with our Bergwijn interest. Legit reporters in the summer out of Holland as well as Michael Bridge talked of our interest over the summer. Hope we follow through.
