Jose said he hates to lose and that's hopefully filtering through to the players now.

The West Ham and Newcastle results were really tough to take given the context of the games, but at least we didn't lose them.

It's 2 defeats in 17 competitive matches. 1 in 16.

There is still momentum with us, despite the kick in the nuts on the weekend.

I also think that momentum means teams would not want to play us right now, especially with Son and Kane. They seem to be on a different level and Kane has had some rest finally!

Is this the same Michael Owen that ritually slagged off here on SC as being a prick, numpty, idiot, twat who hasn't a clue what he's talking about (take your pick) and just waffles on saying stupid thing after stupid thing?

Now he 'knows' and is being quoted..........Boring drone one minute, the next 'he knows', you couldn't make it up. But this is SC and that's exactly what we do. Often times, pundits give opinions that we might not like. We need to stop being great big cry babies about it when that happens.

I'm convinced some of you would happily suffer someone calling your mrs a slack minged old dray horse and even buy the perp a pint but say something negative or incorrect about Spurs and out comes the vitriol.

We need to change our attitude alright :D

I didn’t watch the video, I don’t know what he said, and I still think he’s a simpleton.

Feel better?

No one is right all of the time, just as no one is wrong all of the time. Owen is a grade A idiot for sure, but doesn’t mean people cannot think he’s said something insightful on a specific topic. I’ve not listened to what he said as I can’t be arsed, but to dismiss it as he is a bit of an idiot most of the time is very close minded.

He's still a prick and it's a permanent affliction. I don't agree with him here, either.

I would be more surprised if the players actually gave a hoot what the fans were saying beyond what's thrust in their faces, never mind listened to it.

Owen does talk a lot of crap but I agree what he’s said here is spot on. Poch changes the mentality of the club, now Jose is working on changing the players into winners and the fans then need to change to being more w big team bullish mentality but I think they can/will only happen once we get over the line to get that first trophy in this period.

Initially. His 'bad period' saw him actually undo most of it imo - there were lots of strange comments, can't recall verbatim, but wasn't he saying things like if he won something he'd leave because it would just be the pinnacle or something?
Generally the performance of the team seemed to coincide with MP's turn from modest to, sort of, believing the hype that he was elevating the players to something greater than they were. That would be a bit of a knock to their mentality really, and it's possibly the difference between Liverpool's reaction to a CL loss and ours.

It was when he said this we knew something was up, can't be making public statements like that.

In his post match press conference he highlighted twice how we have only conceded 1 goal from open play. All the goals have come from either penalties or Lateral free kicks.

This for me shows there is a real lack of composure within our back 4. We are trying to put in tackles instead of standing upright resulting in numerous free kicks.

Ledley was a master of winning the ball without having to do this.
Toby used to have this quality. Seems he’s lost it now.

It’s very much a chicken/egg scenario. Yes, no doubt Owen has a point here and the negative vibe almost becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

However, it’s easy for a Liverpool man to say fans should adopt an arrogance if you will. They may have had an average spell by their standards for quite some time before Klopp, but the fans have their vast trophy haul to draw on ( including domestic cups and both a UEFA Cup and CL title in relatively recent times). And although it had been 30 years without the league, the last time we won it you could only view in black and white.

I do agree that Spurs fans like a moan and a whinge ( and some of it is way ott ), but a lot of that negativity has been conditioned. I am hardly what you’d call a new fan having been watching us for 35 years, but my first real season of interest was 86/87 ( I have very vague memories of the 82 cup final, but was too young to really care), where we had a fantastic team, in serious contention for a domestic treble and won....... nothing. Including that Coventry final.

That kind of set me up for what to expect and although there have been 3 trophies since I’ve also seen us lose 8 FA Cup SF in a row ( of which I was present at every one). There have been good/great periods no doubt, with us challenging and playing some great football, but we’ve had more false dawns than I care to remember.

So in summary, yes I agree us fans could and should try and be a bit more positive and have more belief ( particularly in the stadium), but I cannot in any way blame or be surprised when we don’t.

I posted this in the United thread. But this is the season they finished 2nd and Mourinho said it was his biggest achievement.

If he can get that defence sorted and only conceding 9 at home all season, I'm pretty confident he can do it with ours.

Well it'll be tough going considering weve conceded 5 in 3 games and got 16 games to only concede 4. If that happens it'll be absolutely phenomenal.

Sadly you are right. He started to contradict himself from one presser to another. It was clear to me that he was starting to check out mentally and that he was hoping the CL final would be the moment he could sail into the sunset.

In the beginning he was very consistent with his message and very positive about everything, even the constraints the club was under weren't effecting his outlook. Somewhere just before that summer we didn't sign anyone, something seemed to happen with his outlook and in that final season his pressers became quite painful to watch, with him regularly having to clean up what he actually meant.

As much as I liked the book, I think it was a warning sign that someone was becoming a little bit too highly thought of by themselves and to think it wouldn't cause issues was massively naive. Players don't want that stuff out in the public, it's an unwritten rule. Also, if you read that book, you'll notice how often he goes against his own rules.

I hope Poch can really learn from that experience and I hope he doesnt become too arrogant either.

Jose has a massive job on his hand with mentality and rather than try keep drumming it into some players has decided to buy some with a stronger mentality. My worry was that Poch would have rather have signed 'good boys' he could control. That's not what this club needs, it needs strong characters who can call out bad performances and drive the team on.

I think we are a strong CB, in terms of leadership and playing style, away from winning a title now. It's the only real weakness we have.

I didn't mean have us only concede 9 all season. I just meant get our defence sorted, as he had theirs sorted. There are far more goals being scored this season, I doubt anyone will concede less than 10 at home all season.
