I would go further and say that in half a season from looking like we can't win a game to title contenders

I actually agree with you, it would not suprise me one but if we actually did it. For me it's not just the football which I saw in patches last season, but in full effect from the Southampton game. I missed the Everton so can't comment on what I don't know. Its the football being played, the intelligence and crucially the mentality. I'm looking forward to this.

I’m not ready to go full ‘we‘be got a title shots’ yet, need to see how we’re looking after this next run of fixtures as it’s gets very difficult after that for a god few matches. However, with the style of football we’re playing and the synergy between players all over the pitch at the moment, as well as the best competition for places I can remember at Spurs, I do think we can beat pretty much any opposition on any given day. I’d certainly be disappointed if we finished outside the top four and also think we have to be a strong bet for at least one cup.

Until I see us break down a well-organised, obdurate team at home with ease there’s no point even spectaculating about a high league finish.

We did with Newcastle didn’t we? Sadly their keeper played a blinder and our forwards didn’t, but Steve Bruce is the definition of a low block, defence first, organise the team for a clean sheet manager.

Exactly, look at United, who struggled for a long time until Ferguson arrived and were even relegated at one point. Without checking, i'm pretty sure Liverpool were in the old second division when Shankly arrived but since then, they've been a top club, the similarities are there.

I would guess that those two clubs have won somewhere approaching 100 major trophies between them. We consider ourselves to be a top club, I bet we haven't won half of what either of those clubs have won.

If those two aren't top clubs then there aren't any in this country.
Yes, Liverpool won the first division in the '40s, but spent almost a decade in the second division before their next title in the '60s. It took Shankly several seasons to win promotion back to the first division - it seems that the most successful and idolised managers were all given time by the owners.

I make it 92 major trophies between United and Liverpool - 46 each coincidentally.
(I've included League Cup, Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Cup / Europa League and Cup Winners Cup as 'major' trophies, but not Community Shield or second tier league titles. Some would limit 'major trophies' to Premier League / First division, FA Cup and European Cup / Champions League.)

Those two clubs are clearly the most successful in English history. They've both had cycles of success and mediocrity, so for me 10 years without winning the PL wouldn't stop them being a big club. It would take a lot to tarnish their brands so much that they aren't attractive to fans, investors and prospective players.

I do get the impression that a lot of people have a warped view of what constitutes a 'big club'. Newcastle fans considered themselves a big club in the '00s, despite having not won a major trophy since the '50s and being involved in relegation battles. I think most fans continued with this delusion until their second relegation from the PL.

It really grates me how people talked about Chelsea and Man City as 'big clubs' from the moment they were bought up by rich owners, while discounting Spurs as a mid-table team (we were competing with them for top 4) and making constant jokes about an empty trophy cabinet (we had won more trophies than them). We only missed out on CL football under Jol because of lasagne-gate...yet got no recognition (if I recall correctly, most pundits had predict we'd finish around 8th, despite coming 5th the season before). When Harry first led us to CL qualification, everyone talked about City throwing it away, even though we had taken an unprecedented number of points off the 'big clubs' at the back-end of the season.

Trophies won pre-money laundering era:
Spurs - 17
Man City - 9
Chelsea - 8

I remember after Man City won their first PL title, various media sources produced tables of the "5 most successful English clubs of all time", with Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea & Man City ranked by major trophies won. Spurs were not included, despite having won more trophies than Man City...and we weren't the only club overlooked.

Trophies won at the time of this stupid ranking:
Man City - 11
Spurs - 17
Aston Villa - 21

We had 23 shots against Newcastle, hit the bar twice and their keeper was MOTM and Newcastle defended with 5 at the back and 4 in midfield with a low block, we penetrated their defence but just couldn't finish, going by the amount of goals we've scored already this season that suggests that us being unable to break down stubborn defences should be an anomaly.

Then please get it back on track with something Mourinho related which you think will stimulate a decent conversation ?

The Mourinho is a quadruped which lives in big rivers like the Amazon. It has two ears, a heart, a forehead, and a beak for eating honey.

Sorry first thing that popped in to my head

So we've got Mourinho... We've done the Amazon documentary... What else before we do a Quadruple?

Bale’s quality, set pieces and aerial threat will help. But until we can show we can do it regularly it’s up for debate.

True but equally it’s up for debate that we can’t do it as Newcastle are the only low block we’ve faced so far this season so currently there’s not any evidence against us being able to perform v a low block this season with these players.

But we didn’t win. And whatever the merits of the penalty, we gave them the chance to lump it in the box at 1-0.

You said ‘break down a well-organised, obdurate team at home with ease’. I merely suggested that this season we have only played one such side this season, and we broke them down repeatedly. Therefore, until we fail to ‘break down a well-organised, obdurate team at home with ease’, which undoubtedly will transpire at some point, I feel there is room for optimism on this front.

Obviously none of the defences we've broken down so far this season count, because they can't have been "well-organised". Joint top scoring team in the league, but can't break down a defence ;)

Several comments by Jose about spurs not being respected and Man unt getting an unusual amount of penalties etc .
I think these comments were made with the intention of making sure the refs were not anti spurs .
Jose is such a clever fella he played the officials like a fiddle if they had given any dubious decision against us he could say "what did I tell you about bias " I am so on board with this manager I can't explain and he is a man I did not want and in fact I was annoyed he was hired I am now so happy he's here explain that if you can .
