This is the elephant in the room

He’s had all lock down and pre season to sort himself out and be sorted out by Jose and what do we get in the season opener, a 75th min appearance which was extremely ordinary to put it kindly

We are absolutely desperate for this guy to lead us out of this gloom but there is zero sign of that happening which is extremely worrying

I hope at least that he is sold in the next two weeks and replaced with someone that turns out to be a great signing for us, in whatever position

Boy, do we need that...

What stood out for me was N’Dombelly standing around not chasing anything despite only just coming on and worse not looking as though he wanted the ball at all when it was passed to him
He just looked up played a simple pass to get rid of it without even trying to create something
Also he looked totally out of shape

His reputation was at its lowest ebb post Utd. Levy needed to make us look blockbuster for the USA market.

Jose Mourinho gets to star in his own documentary to reinstate his brand. Levy is start struck by him and thinks it will get him some viewers and make him look big time.

The more I see, the more I believe we are the first club to make a managerial decision with a Netflix documentary as the main driving force.
Or perhaps even Amazon. Thing is that I just don’t know what the answer is because the players have shown that they can win games under Mourinho even though obviously no-one was blown away by the style of play. I just don’t get how they were so flat yesterday.

He wasnt great but His very first touch and pass was more attacking and positive than anything PEH, winks and sissoko managed in all their minutes on the pitch
And no he didn't look totally out of shape

Exaggerate much?

Weird situation with Ndombele. I really hope that it isn’t just the case that DL doesn’t want to take a loss because it’s this kind of thing that led to Poch becoming disillusioned. Sometimes you just have to accept that a move hasn’t worked out and it’s then just about damage limitation.

Stop coming out with sensible posts like that! Your reputation might get about as low as mine on here?

Guys,

We’ve appointed one of the most successful Managers of all time and the problems haven’t gone away.

Its surely time for a collective wake up call and pressure to be put in the right area’s. Player recruitment must change.

I also think we have to acknowledge that we haven’t been as loyal to our Managers as we should have been. Martin Jol, Harry Redknapp and Pochettino all did great work but the fans mistakenly thought they could get better. History shows that the replacements weren’t better. It was new players which fixed the problems.

Lets show some loyalty and put the pressure where it will make a permanent difference.

I'll tell you what though. i won't put up with another season of us performing like that. he has to start to show he can improve the team. giving up possession to the likes of Everton and Southampton won't help that.

having said that though, you have to question if the players actually want to win because when I watch them they just look like comfortable bunch of players. how bad do you fucking want it? because our rivals do.

for Mourinho to use the words "lazy" to describe our efforts for the first game of the season is very worrying. I can understand "unlucky" or "a few bad decisions" but "lazy?"

Yeah but he's right. It was totally fucking lazy in the second half. His face at the final whistle looked shocked.

And he's calling them out. His subs didn't help but he's just right to call them out.

Lazy with no one looking to take any responsibility.

I actually felt a bit sorry for Mourinho when he took the job because I couldn’t see it would work. A mistake on both sides.

He stands to ‘earn’ a huge amount of money regardless of whether it works out, that’s why find it hard to feel sorry for him. Noone forced him to take it.

Of course.

But I think he still wants to be successful. His reputation will only fall lower at Tottenham.

There’s a clear trend in our managerial sackings and appointments under Levy - he sacks the unglamorous / emergency hire who has surpassed expectations and replaces him with a big or flashy international name (Santini, Ramos, AVB and now Mourinho). Invariably this doesn’t work out and the subsequent unglamorous hire does better, things then get stale and the cycle repeats itself. The football under Mourinho has been dreadful. That’s Mourinho’s fault as much as anyone’s, and he’s not (imo) going to turn out to be a Jol, Redknapp or Poch who deserves loyalty and backing. He’s going to be a Ramos / AVB. it’s only a matter of time before the Levy cycle once again repeats itself.

I'll never understand the Sissoko sub and then the position he put him in on the pitch.

Does it show the emphasis he puts on strength & power? First thought is to negate the other team if he felt we were getting overrun.
Did he want him to cover in behind Doherty?

Found it odd that he moaned about Sissoko’s lack of training (only 2 sessions). Why put him on for 45 minutes then?!

I've been saying this for several months now and received a succession of 'doh' and 'disagree' ratings :D

It’s taken a long time for me to recognise it/admit it to myself, as I always try to look on the positive side with regards to the people running the club. But ironically it’s been the documentary - so desired by Levy - which has pushed me over the edge into this realisation. We can finally see what the club and it’s senior leaders are like behind closed doors, and whilst it looks like a lovely place to work with lots of lovely people - absolutely none of them are ever going to win us anything.

I don’t buy into any of the “Levy’s just in it to line his pockets” nonsense - I think he genuinely has the best of intentions. But he has proven to be incapable of delivering a successful (winning) team/club. He’s done wonders with the training ground, stadium and growing the club commercially beyond all expectations. But now it’s time to go and let Jeff and his billions come in and give us the sustained period of success we’ve been waiting so long for.

I've been a big critic but I disagree with that.

Firstly, I noticed he was more animated on the bench.

Secondly, when he came on he sprinted on, he was showing desire to come on and change the game.

Thirdly, he immediately pressed and pushed into one of their players who was receiving from defence.

Lastly, he was trying to get on the ball and make something happen.

Obviously his fitness is still an issue but hes coming into a game where there's a lot of bad play going on around him.

It's imperative we bring him up to speed and get Lo Celso back.

It’s probably been said already but Adam Bate’s article on SSN website is spot on and pretty damning, particularly of Dier, Winks, Sissoko and the fact we don’t press or run it seems not just yesterday but since JM took over. I just don’t understand what his plan is for our “style” of play?

We are not a pressing team. We are not a possession based team. We are not a counter attacking team (because our forwards don’t have movement and our midfielders couldn’t find them if they did). We are a poor team. After 9 months at the club we should be seeing more than we are.

He’ll get another job. Someone else will employ the name rather than the manager.

Not sure he'll ever get a job higher than Spurs after his stint here, the only thing left for him is intl football where I happen to think he'd be very successful.

I'd say it ought to Levy's last roll of the dice in terms of managerial appointment IF Mourinho's position becomes untenable but who's going to replace him? And for Levy: is he going to sack himself, delegate the job to someone else, is Uncle Joe finally going to wade in?

Jose out call after one game of the season is a little premature. Performance and results disappointing and I do agree tactics weren’t very inspiring and he’s making excuses again but still think our players and squad is just not good enough atm.

I don’t think it is how many games as he had in whole now?

Not once have we looked like we can actually dominate a game instead we ride our luck and rely on individual brilliance which isn’t there anymore.

Tottenham’s DNA is not to sit back and absorb pressure unfortunately as much as we need that to change it never will it’s always been style over substance here and that’s makes our team so great we at Tottenham even in failure have an echo of glory and at the moment I’m struggling to stay awake to watch us!!
