I’m very interested to see how he does with the squad and improvements he can bring.

It also looks like he’s assembling a very good back room staff, his assistant is a very promising young coach (maybe plan is under a director of football that he can succeed Mourinho one day?).

Seeing all the lazy rubbish in press about youth not being given a chance blah blah but he gave McTomininay and Rashford plenty of chances at Man U and Poch wasn’t exactly that great in promoting youth during his spell with us, regardless of the reputation he somehow has for doing so - Kane was already breaking through under Sherwood (boo hiss!) as was Bentaleb. Mason came in, but he had been rated for quite a while and injuries had stopped him, was still a good call to promote him though.

Poch’s handling of KWP has been very poor and Skipp, Tanganga and Onomah (who we’ll never know how good could be as his development was handled very badly and he was never played in his proper position) weren’t given much of a look in. Pritchard was also never even given a chance for us.

For me the crux of the matter is whether his break from football really has allowed him to rethink his philosophy and recharge his batteries.

When he first came to England I thought he was a breath of fresh air. His sardonic humour and straight talking was a welcome antidote to the "proper football man" cobblers the likes of Allardyce and Redknapp and their ilk came out with.

He became something of a caricature of himself by the end of his time at Utd and we will find out soon enough whether that was the natural effect of being at the top level for such a long time. Anyone under that much pressure for so long is likely to be affected by it.

For where we are now as a club and where we want to go a strong, experienced figure was needed and he's certainly that. So from that point of view he's a gamble well worth taking.

I hope he's changed with his time out. If he has this could be the start of a truly great period in the club's history. If he hasn't and we get the dour, functional football and grumpy persona I'll be first in the queue calling for a change.

In short, I'm intrigued rather than excited but at the same time optimistic. He'll have my support as I desperately want my club to win things. But while I believe we have been nice little Spurs for too long there is a limit to how functional we can get before it becomes too much.

Here's to a new Mourinho, hopefully like the old Mourinho.

In my mind I know what Mourinho is capable of, I just feel like we've gone from sacking Luke SkyWalker to hiring Darth Vader. Hard to process things at the moment.

This is interesting because Vader is clearly more powerful than Skywalker, and is ultimately the only one who can destroy the evil Empire...

If he follows that character arc, then he'll throw Guardiola down the shaft that leads to the secret reactor underneath the Etihad and we'll rise to win the league and Champions League.

I'd probably take that to be honest.

A very famous norwegian author (Jo Nesbø) was quoted in newspaper today saying this is like swapping Luke Skywalker with Darth Vader.. Well, I like Darth Vader! ⛧

Jose is poch’s dad?

I’m sure someone can knock up a meme of the emperor in this analogy

I think you're being a bit unfair to Jose, I agree Levy has taken a huge gamble on getting rid of Poch but it's unfair to judge Jose on this year. Also you're saying if he didn't change for United he won't change for us, the difference is that he was promised certain things by United and they didn't deliver. Now I'm sure he was given assurances that if we don't deliver he will kick a fuss up about, the same as Poch did but I imagine he fully appreciates what he's getting into, I think you're really making him sound simplistic if you think he's walking in here expecting the budgets of Madrid/United. What Jose has here at Spurs is an opportunity to prove he is the best manager in the world and turn a club of our stature into giants which is more impressive than what Pep did at City/Bayern for example.
Well, I'm getting shit for my views and seem to be annoying people so I'll shut up after this. But literally all I'm doing is looking at what's happened in the past with him and assuming, based on him being a big character with a big ego(that his win record justifies frankly) that he won't of strayed too far from type.

His net spend was 300 million at United, which is nuts. And some of that spend was on a couple of players he probably didn't want. But most of them were his players. And he left the club complaining about not spending more. Of course he's going to expect to spend money, he has everywhere else he's been. And now he's got to deal with Levy. If you speak to man united fans they think we're nuts doing what we're doing. And I'm not just gonna be some optimistic, stick my head in the sand, when all the history suggests there's going to be problems.

But I will say this. He's an excellent tactician and a fucking brilliant motivator. So we'll certainly get something out of him for a time. And I do actually think, with these players, if they stay fit, and we get a bit of luck, we have a shot at winning the CL with him this year. And if that happens, the appointment should be considered an absolute master stroke.

But it's my opinion the clock has started ticking, we need to win something and we need to win it sooner rather than later.... FA Cup, meh, I'd take that CL final over winning the FA Cup last year given the choice. But perhaps that's just me.

If this is going to work, it needs Mourinho to improve his off the field behaviour, it needs the right recruitment structure (Campos could be key) and it also needs Levy to be willing to back him to a reasonable level without interference.

It's hard not to be absolutely buzzing and ride the wave like everyone else!!

But it might come back to bite me in the arse, when we are 10 games in and play dreadful football defending a 1-0 lead at home with a proper big bus against Brighton.

For now i'm just really excited and can't wait for Saturday.

He will have one remit this season top 4
Anything else will be seen as a bonus.

This appointment hopefully will change the mindset of a lot of our snowflake footballers and get rid of the ahh well we gave it a good shot attitude.
Hopefully it will teach them to despise losing.

By the way I was in the poch in camp but in his own words "this is football"
It's done and we need to move onwards and upwards.

And, even with that team around him, they got second place relatively comfortably. Impressive IMO.
The season that United finished second Zlatan played 5 league games. I think it was Lukaku's first season where United finished second.

I think as a football fan you need to try and be optimistic and hopeful otherwise what's the point, because the reality is we have no control so if we're only getting negative from it then I don't think it's a healthy outlet, so I always try and find reasons to be positive. He made some mistakes absolutely at United with transfers but I think he was given free reign and thought he was going to be able to roll the dice and if they didn't work roll again to find out that Woodward had taken the dice home even though he was promised unlimited roll. I think he'll be aware he has to get it right on the transfers as there's no do-overs at spurs. luckily we have a good squad in place already to circumvent that. For what it's worth I'm with you, If you said to me we get another crack at the final vs a guaranteed domestic trophy, I'd gamble on the final every single fucking time. As far as I'm concerned that's the bar that Jose will be looking at and I back his record in finals. I'll also look more fondly on our champions league run last season than I would a domestic trophy win just because of the journey but I understand why some fans prefer to get the pot of gold at the end.

The Olympiakos game Tuesday is important. Win that and we're through. With one or two astute January dealings, there's no reason we can't win the thing this season. The squad is better than last years and as it stands there is only one major injury.

Must admit I've got my eye on it too, if we get lucky with the draw you back Jose to win those knockout games for sure.

Football is so crazy at times. We all know that, fans, players, staff. I was as shocked as everyone. Poch has done a tremendous job at Spurs, and it won’t be easy to top his team perfomance and passion for our club. In football nothing is certain, but one thing is:

Mourinho will stir things up, so let’s see what happens. He is a phenomenal coach, straightforward and ambitious and so are our boys. So #COYS heads up, chest out. We’re not only the best of northern London, we are the best. So show it.

These are the games I am most excited for, knock out football against Europe's elite. Mourinho will set us up specifically to counter the opposition.

Watching some of his tactical videos it shows how the knowledge the man has.

A bit guilty that I’m so over Mauricio Pochettino already to be honest. This was obviously the right thing to do though. After 24 hours of reading articles and watching videos I’m back to being excited and optimistic and cannot wait for Saturday.
Mourinho has the biggest ego and the biggest salary at the club - everyone knows it’s his way or the highway but they start with a clean slate. No second chances here.

Posted this in Mourinho thread:-

He has a damaged reputation that it sounds like he acknowledges that he wants to rectify.
He is a proven winner in 3 major leagues so has some kind of pedigree.
As long as he doesn't leave us in too bad a mess when he inevitably walks out the door he could actually give us the backbone that we have been missing as a club for decades.
