Jose's points per game compared to his rivals:

Liverpool - 2.46
Man City - 2.08
Man Utd - 1.87
Spurs - 1.70

It's better than I thought it would be. Also quite impressive when you factor in no striker for a number of matches (when Kane & Son were injured) which resulted in that bad run for around 6/7 matches.

Very true. Was absolutely dealt a shit hand with injuries and to have that kind of return of points is pretty remarkable. Hasn't been pretty obviously, but he's helping us grind out results.

I'm pro mourinho but I can't say I'm very happy about his views on FFP.
Or his creeping up to Newcastle just because of their potential new wealthy owners.

He made his fortune, working for billionaires so it is understandable that he rather there were no restrictions on them, otherwise he would be suggesting all those unrestricted trophies he won at chelsea were not entirely legitimate or good for the game.
Which they weren't.

But he works for us now and should promote what is in the interests of this club. We haven't got an owner who will spend what it takes, and it is better for us if the billionaire clubs are reigned in. He should make this clear.

At first I thought all his talk of the connection he has with Newcastle was genuine, and I'd simply not noticed before. But then he is filmed pining around the statue of Bobby Robson, calling him boss, and saying what a great guy Bruce is, and you have to conclude he is up to something. He fancies himself for the job in my opinion.
And those that say good riddance, should remember that he'll need 20 players over the next few years to get them up a few levels, and the club that would be raided first would be ours.

I’ve coached at a good level - Ross I know you coach too... I don’t know what a tactical player is.

Ndombélé isn’t just a player who can execute a scissor kick or take a volley on his weak foot over his shoulder. He has phenomenal awareness of how players are moving around him and passes the ball with perfect weight to take advantage of that movement ie plays intelligent / killer balls. That seems to me to be a tactical player with the ball.

Unless all you meant was he doesn’t work hard enough off the ball. But both Poch and mourinho expect that so it’s not a pertinent difference,

I think I can define what was meant by a tactical player...

A technical player is one who can execute skills with great technique. That weighted pass, the instant control, the balance when volleying etc. things that are measured and executed perfectly.

A tactical player has more than just a good ability to read play (although that is a pre-requisite). They can identify when the sting needs to be taken out of a game. When to waste time, or hold onto the ball, or when to up the tempo. When to harass the ref. When to rile an opponent. They can sense key moments or phases in a game. It is not about working harder as such, but more about working smarter. Consider Busquets ... a great reader of the game, not just in terms of breaking up play, but also breaking up any momentum the opponents build up. Look how Juve totally schooled us at Wembley two years ago in the CL. Poch and all the players, whilst superior to Juve in a thrilling sense, were simply tactically inferior. We were pushing on for another goal and leaving gaps when they needed to score twice. And they did - inside 4 mins to lead thanks to our naivety. And then they showed us how to take all the momentum out of a game. It was a real lesson that I thought we would learn form and go up a level. But in reality that is when the wheels started coming off.

Freeki - i'm not sure that anyone holds up the standard of being an entertaining loser. Those that want to be true to the prior soul of the club insist on winning and winning well. To me, its like baking a cake. The ingredients have to be done in the right order with winning coming first as it brings in the money, the stature that allows flexibility to attack the second part of the problem, entertaining, more effectively. So if we figure out that we can play like Stoke and win trophies for years to come but never make the final step to entertainment, I will support but not love what the club has become. It's like your spouse growing away from what you loved about him/her in the first place. You still love them with everything you have, but it isn't the same.

Add to that the second half of the Ajax game. So while everyone of us remembers exactly where we were when Liverpool scored its first goal in the final, we can also remember where we were on Lucas's third goal in the semi. As bad as the final was, that memory of the team running into the corner while the Ajax players lay on the pitch can only be described as ecstasy. Perhaps it is most accurate to say that it is possible to appreciate our run in the CL but not accept it as the be all end all event for Spurs. We must want more.

The way we won that semi final was epic, but for me it's tainted as I whenever I think about it I have to think about the final and everything that went wrong with that.

If you don't know how strong his link is to Bobby Robson then you need to revisit most of what you know about him.

I’m sure that your post will give hope to all those wanting Jose to leave but you have to understand that he really loved and respected Sir Bobby. I wouldn’t read any more into it than that.

Yep, little more than respect for a great man and manager. Seemed like an absolutely top bloke from everything I have read and seen.

His vision is superb and he does seem to have a sense if the player he is passing to sees the same thing he does. So in one sense, he is tactically astute. however, i don't see him making great runs off the ball which could be an issue with work rate or not having a strong sense of that especially in the EPL where the game plays as fast as it does. I may not be watching him close enough, but i can't recall ever saying "What a clever run". part of that is positional but i would have thought i would have seen something.

Agree that he's a bit of a bell, but now he's our bell so im getting behind him. Just read in his 24 games in charge we have scored 39 and conceded 29. In Pochs last 24 games ( and I love Poch ) we scored 31 and conceded 31. So we are scoring more...... let that settle in. Cant be right ? If thats right he's doing a decent job with the same players.

Always hoped he come and manage Spurs in the late nineties, before he went to Newcastle. He’d have been a proper appointment, instead we ended up with the likes of Gerry Francis, Christian Gross, and George bloody Graham.

I quite liked Gerry, thought he was an ok manager as well tbh. The other two I give you, as they were indeed not what was needed. Graham was actually a good manager too if you liked that defensive solidity but he was never going to be accepted by the fans. Gross well say no more lol.

and the fact that he arrived mid-season to an out of form low on confidence side with issues hanging over Toby and Eriksen's future.
No-one gets near the pace liverpool set this year its not a normal pace but to be close to man.u and man.city is very encouraging given all the things mentioned!

Francis was ok, but just ok, which I think was part of the problem at Spurs in the 90s, there seemed to be a “that’ll do” approach. After all the ambition and pomp of Ossie’s brief stint, signing the likes of Klinsmann, then appointing Francis was a bit like if we’d hired Dyche, or Howe after Poch.

I was excited when we got Gerry Francis I'll admit.

Is the difference being expressed here that Ndombele is a instinctual player with great technical ability. But in this instance a tactical player is a player who can play the system the other players are playing.

Obviously an elite player will do both.

That's a funny comment :ROFLMAO: But I disagree with the sentiment. I think there are trophies to chase and trophies to not chase.
What trophies would you not chase?

Europa league? League cup? Perhaps even the FA Cup?

I'd love to win them and would be happy if we 'chased' them.

Agree. what’s the point in supporting a team if you don’t want them to win. Not that it mattered but I even wanted us to win the bloody Audi cup. If you are in a competition, you are in it to win.

everyone on here turning their nose up at league cups and such. get a grip a competition is a competition can’t get snobby about which competitions YOU would like to win when we can’t even win any of them at the moment
