Decent read this from Seb and covers some of what I feel - specifically to get some sort of idea about what the plan is - how will Jose have us playing once he's had time to settle.

This bit in particular nails it.

"Instead, there has to be something to believe in. Not a finished product or a team in perfect harmony, but just some sense that this project will be worth watching and have a middle and an ending different from what has been seen before. On current evidence, on the basis of the witless football and the increasingly tetchy behaviour in front of the media, that isn’t the case. "

I love Sebs articles, this one is great too but one thing is lacking and that is the punch line. What Seb thought would happen and he left that hanging

The article isn't great. I mean Lo Celso would fit right in for Eriksen with Ndombele behind him at CM (Winks can lay there for now). So need need to buy now. What we really need is a DM

Hmm..."panic-buying".

Wanyama has been crocked for 2 years and Dier has been injured / sick / out of form for more than a year. Should've bought a DM a while ago, then we wouldn't need to panic.

Find this very hard to believe. So we need a CM and the plan is to sell two options Mourinho could use there and sign nobody? Sissoko injured, fitness of Winks and TN very shaky leaving Lo Celso and Dier as makeshift options along with Skipp as the only true CM?

Don't disagree with selling Eriksen and Wanyama per se, but they might actually be somewhat useful there for the rest of the season if we didn't strengthen.

why do you find it hard to believe?

It’s how we’ve operated for years.

I have no doubt that JM's "I am very happy with the squad" comment was designed so as not to undermine confidence within the players themselves. Jose is no idiot, he probably knew well before he came to us the limitations of most of the players. It is going to be all about the summer transfer window for him. For now he is towing the "we have little money to invest and I know that" line, but I fully expect him to present Levy with a shopping list come May along with the harsh facts of what's needed to get back into the top 4.

My hope is that if we fail to get top 4 or win a cup this season (as looks likely) we also fail to qualify for Europe period, leaving us time to rest and develop players throughout next season. It's not doing Leicester much harm is it?

Why isnt Wanyama getting a chance? I've probably missed something glaringly obvious but it's been so long since I remember watching him that i can't remember what state he's in. Last thing i remember was the thunderbolt against liverpool.

Agree with all this.

I hope he doesn't present Levy with a shopping list in May. More like now.

And yes, fuck Europa. Could do with just focusing on team cohesion the league and domestic pots next year.

It seems likely that Levy hoped José would come in and provide a huge boost in results for the next 1-2 years without having to spend the money on players that Poch was calling for.
I think this is spot on and almost certainly the kind of thinking which motivated Mourinho’s appointment.
The problem is what happens when the promised results don’t happen. Levy can either double down by sacking Mourinho and moving onto the next sap, or can start investing appropriately. Think we know which is more likely.
