Some good new quotes.

“I asked him if he was Dele or Dele’s brother,” said the new Tottenham boss. “He told me he was Dele. ‘Okay,’ I said. ‘Play like Dele’.”

Ahead of Mourinho’s first Spurs game at West Ham on Saturday lunchtime, the Portuguese admitted he is not expecting an instant improvement.

“He is potentially a fantastic player,” said Mourinho. “Now, I have to create a tactical situation he is happy with, give him the right dynamics and prepare him physically well because he has had important injuries and he is not on the top of his form.

“I cannot expect him to play on Saturday – if he plays – and go there and be man of the match.

"But he needs to go through a process that will bring the real Dele back because the real Dele is the one who in the last few years has impressed us all.

I was just coming in to post those comments. Let’s see how Dele reacts. I suspect it will be positive, but let’s hope not too aggressively and he gets a red card today.

Mourinho knows what he’s capable of though and I suspect will rise to the challenge of getting a tune out of the player.

If we get Ajax again in the knockout stages of the CL, I don't think it's going to be as dramatic as last year...

Mourinho's career Vs Opposition stats, sorted by points won per game:

Look at who they played in the europa league mate. He was expected to challenge Pep for the league that season too and finished lower than where Van Gaal left them.

Fuck me the 360 degree rewriting people are doing on here about Poch-Mou is :banghead:
Or..... people have have removed the emotion and looked at facts?

Good grief the squad we have... A bit unbalanced and we need to sort out the wantaways and holdouts over the next two windows but we've got such a good base with both quality and depth to build from and go forwards with.
I never understood the calls for a total rebuild and something like that just highlights why. Get Toby and Jan signed up (Eriksen too if he will), grab a couple of new fullbacks (if RS isn't one) and a new DM (if Wanyama's done) and we're good to go.

I'm incredibly excited to see Mourinho on the touchline today. Still can't believe we have him as our manager. Everyone is going to absolutely love the guy once he gets going.

The Times is reporting that Frank lampard will never follow Jose's lead and manage Spurs. So that's nice.

But if they dont want to sign new contracts then you're talking about a whole new defence (if Sanchez and Foyth aren't first choice). Also a whole new spine for the team. So it's pretty much a total rebuild of two core areas of the team

I've kept quiet and had time to reflect. Firstly I would like to say thanks poch and all his staff for the last 5 and a half years. Without that period we wouldn't have now been able to appoint a born winner in Jose for the first time in my life. And sorry to some spurs fans but i'm fully on the mourinio train for however long it lasts.

I loved Poch, probably the best manager in my lifetime (47 years old) along with Burkinshaw. I wanted him to build a legacy. At the start of the year I’d rather have cut my own arm off than swap Poch out for Mourinho. I have detested Jose for years, not because he’s managed Chelsea, but because I have always perceived him as an arrogant bad loser and a cheat. An eye gouger, a referee abuser, a snidey and sneering git.

Fast forward to the Brighton game and I wanted Poch gone. He’d lost the plot. He hadn’t lost the dressing room, but players were not responding to him anymore. The whole club was stale, players form dipping, no leadership, relegation battle looming. And Poch’s comments about leaving if we won the CL the week before the final made my blood boil. And the book he wrote, could only be detrimental. Lots of other factors (Levy equally shares the blame, as does moving stadium twice in 3 years, injuries, and a World Cup hangover).

Anyway, quite simply we needed a change.

Mourinho is undoubtedly the best candidate available right now. And - this is a case of Rose tinted glasses for sure - I am seeing a different Mourinho. He has a glint in his eye. His body language with the players is fascinating. He appears totally refreshed, Jose 2.0, after his 11 month sabbatical. I really think he will take this squad up a level, and that we can / will win things. I am actually really excited on a Saturday morning for the first time in months. And I am looking forward to seeing actual tactical changes during the game. Formation and personnel.

Hope you're right.. he's never played decent football before it's always cheating & thuggery & it's easy to talk in press conference about having changed.. he's good at sweet talking people but his actions everywhere tells a different story

Poch's football had a lot of cheating and thuggery. Just saying

Do I want Mourinho to succeed?

As we're in the Election run-up
I'll ignore that question and answer a different one.

Do I want Spurs to succeed?
Yes very much so.

Have we been successful over the past 5 years?
Yes very much so.
If it continues will you mind if Mourinho gets the credit?
Yes very much so.

I doubt that he will top Pochettino's record.
He'll have to win the CL to do that.

Would you like Spurs to win a trophy?
Yes very much so
but not at the expense of all that I hold dear
as a long-time Spurs supporter.

Dreading the Mourinho reign and all that it usually implies.

Sorry.

In what way? In the old ‘bitter’ Mourinho way?

Aside from the obvious nature of having Mourinho coaching us I wonder whether levy has pulled a master (vinegar) stroke?
ostensibly, he’s saying to the ‘want aways’ - if you don’t want to play for Jose’s Spurs, then f**k right off. Verts, Toby & Eriksen must be reconsidering their choices; on the other hand to have those three firing on all cylinders would be an huge addition to our squad
