BTW, Wilson's national team Honduras have qualified directly to the World Cup after beating El Salvador (a) coupled with Costa Rica being held by USA. Costa Rica and Uruguay will therefore go at it for the playoff ticket to the WC.

Congrats Wilson

Actually liked the idea of him getting the summer off.

Yep!
Costa Rica 2-0 up after about 70 mins and heading directly to South Africa.

Then the US pulls one back before levelling on 95 mins. The ref must have though ManUSA was playing.

Good for Wilson though IMO - the more spurs player at the WC the better IMO. Great experience.

Yeah O'Hara is ruled out but KPB is ok for the game, however I am not going to lose any sleep over it as I never saw him as better than average.

If you were in a room full of people to have watched Pompey this season (or Dortmund last, tbf) you'd be in a significant minority.

F365 have already suggested he could be the signing of the summer (admittedly competition is weaker than usual). From what I've seen he's been the busy bastard and creative force of a desperately unlucky side.

Oh, and he certainly will love sticking it to us. His first two or three challenges will be big. Arguably our best result would be him getting an early booking.

US down to ten men after a central defender (oneyu (sp?)) did what looks to be his cruciate. the ref added a few minutes for that. then, bizarrely, the costa rica manager and then his number 2 were sent from the pitch and left really really slowly. it think the referee must have added some time there as well.

on the goal, i reckon if the ball hadn't gone for a corner, the referee would have blown for time. on the corner, the left back drifted in unmarked (remember, US down to 10 men) and put one past the man on the post.

some minutes previous to that costa rica broke with the ball, the US having pushed forward. the striker inexplicably tried to beat his man instead of heading for the corner. he, of course, lost it and from that mistake the US won the corner that led to the goal.

costa rica must be gutted. to be fair to the US, they never gave up. costa rica, though, sat back the whole second half trying to hold on and ultimately it cost them

I know you rate him Bill and that's fine, that's why I put that I wont be losing any sleep over it because to be honest I saw nothing in him when I watched him the few times at the Lane that he made appearances, and all I saw of him at Dortmund was getting sent off for nearly decapitating someone and then Dortmund refusing to pay the price we asked as he was injured.

This season I have seen a player that is in the "new club, try harder" syndrome, but that's fine that we don't all agree on things.

As the team 3rd place in the league and the players we have in our squad I would expect us to be concerned with playing against world class players.......not Kevin-Prince Boateng.

How come this thread is saying we are short on Defensive Midfield so we need someone in January like Muntari but also is pleased the Pompey DM can't play because he's our player but not putting the two together.

Is JOH that good? if so then we'll have him back in Jan and from what Tim Sherwood said on Talksport yesterday that seems pretty certain so DM problem solved, no?

I'd stick Wilson on the bench just in case, but agree it's way to much to ask him to start after traveling all the way back.

I know it's in the Mirror but they're running a story quoting Harry to the effect that Wilson has been ordered to attend celebrations in Honduras and will miss Pompey.

Pompey have been playing a good deal better than their results suggest and won't be a pushover, but if we can't get a result without Palacios we've got problems.

Jenas-Huddlestone is a convincing partnership. Much better than the likes of Zokora-Huddlestone or Jenas-Zokora over the years

Surprised that nobody's suggested Corluka to play CM. That always seems like a popular idea here.

I'd say that JJ and Hudd would have to be the choice, Palacios would surely struggle after all that travelling.

Though a part of me (probably a really foolish part) wants to suggest JJ and Bale for CM. Pity Livermore's on loan.

Absolutely. And, as I've said before, Spurs fans really have no reason to rate him whatsoever. You could be right on the 'new club, try harder' thing. It just strikes me that he's done well everywhere but Spurs, so that's more likely to be the exception. Still, either way, I agree that he's not up to the standard we would need week-in, week-out just now.

i think not having wilson for the pompey game is a blessing in disguise as he looked f**ked the last time he came back for international duty.

1) Bill is IMHO right - the thang many Spurs fans seem to be missing about KPB is that he was played incredibly out of position at the Lane, while Pompey are playing him properly. He is a creative, attacking midfielder, and has gone on record stating that the one thing he really cannot do is tackle; so it was quite bizarre trying to make him into a midfield general; and totally inequitable of Spurs fans to just judge him on the fact that he couoldn't play in the one position he admits he cannot play.

2) This has been said on page 1 of this thread - please read the posts, there you will see the question asked as to JOs eligibility, which is there answered in the negative - no, he can't play against his parent club!

3) Jenas/THudd wouldn't normally be my first choice for cnetral midfield, but not only is O'Hara ineligible, but Papa Boupa-Diop is still recovering from injury, so I don't think they will have much bite in midfield.
