you would think Dortmund would still be in the UCL in January

GreyFox said the player would see how his team is positioned in January or words to that effect. Would probably mean its a team that maybe dont expect to get out of the UCL knock out rounds.
Once again Shalke but its apparently now Draxler! I was praying it would be him!!

Has nobody seen the comment from Archibald&Crooks where he definitively confirms that it's NOT Draxler?

Levy would hate himself for signing Suarez at a huge markup from when he had the chance 2 seasons ago. We would not touch Falcao's wage demands, he's a through and through mercenary. That leaves two humble enough players that could fit a reasonable wage structure...

I just can't see past Reus (to an extent, Müller a distant second) and want A&C to refute but one of them so I'd know!

Disclaimer: By A&C not commenting on this post I will believe in my head of candy floss, chocolate rivers and perfectly heterosexual rainbows that we are signing Marco Reus in January.

Very few players who would go for £50m and that we'd be happy to pay that much for. It would have to be somebody who we felt would fire us into the CL and would at least maintain that sort of value for a few years so I'd reckon they'd be south of 25. I imagine that the player would be able to play instead or with Soldado OR they'd be an absolute world class left-winger who could also play as the number 10. Lastly, it's not Draxler. Also on the back of Grey Fox's info the club would have to be conducive to selling but be big enough that the player wants to stay and fight for a place.

So possible candidates
Suarez: Certainly fits most of the criteria but I *think* we'd avoid him on the basis of it being a PR nightmare.
Muller: Superb, young and versatile but is he a Pep player? Not sure myself. Would he come to us? Probably not, which again fits the billing.
Reus: Again fits the billing and Dortmund (like us) will always accept an offer at the right price. They'd probably rather sell him to us than watch Bayern swoop again. He could be wanting to stay to see how they do post-Gotze.
Hamsik: Not sure how much he'd fit in. Couldn't have seen Napoli accepting offers for him and Cavani in the same window unless Rafa completely wanted to build the team in his own image. Again could be waiting to see how Napoli do with Benitez (swimmingly by the looks of it)

Can't think of anybody else. We're not daft enough to pay £50m for Hulk, Pastore or Rooney. Chelsea would never sell us Mata. PSG wouldn't sell Lucas Moura. Falcao's wages would be way, way out of our league. Ribery and Ibra are too old.

Falcao ?

I don't get the Falcao link. Ok he may not be happy about the tax situation in France but if he really wanted to leave Monaco, and they where happy to sell him, surely his agent would be on the phone to Madrid, Chelsea, City etc. on top of that Falcao can't play on the wing which would mean we spent 26 mil on a back up striker in Soldado (unless we are swapping to two up front which I also find very doubtful). Monaco are also top of their league. Reus could be another guess, easily worth 50 mil but again, why would he want to come to us. BVB are above us as a team and where in the CL final last season and will probably do well again this year. The only thing I could imagine that would make him want to jump ship is if BVB sell all their best players and don't replace them with quality.... This has not happened thus far and again BVB are top, all be it by goal difference, of the German league. Which leaves Muller and prob the most likely of the bunch. Although BM are the biggest club out of the three, Muller is not a guarantied starter. Turning us down suggests he may want to wait and see how much game time he gets by Jan and then reassess the situation. Is he worth 50 mil... I'm not sure, he is a fantastic talent but that is a lot of money. Although he plays best on the right, he is also right footed meaning the transition to inside left wouldn't be too hard. Both Muller and Reus can play across the front three with Reus being most at home on the left.

If I could choose one I would go for Reus all day long. An unbelievable talent probably worth more the 50 mil in the modern day market. But I very much doubt we could ever get him. As much as I like Muller, I think I would prefer Draxler as he has a huge amount of potential, but we know it's not him. I am sure, come Jan we won't be singing anyone for 50 mil, but it's still fun to guess.

Reus moved to Dortmund last year for £14.5 million. I seem to remember we were in for him then, and one of the reasons mentioned for his move was it was his boyhood club. One year at your (actual) boyhood club? Doesn't really matter if the club accept the offer if the player wants to stay.

Less speculation more appreciation when the player is announced (or not) in January.

Thomas Muller:
Age 23: Winner of Golden Boot and Best Young Player in his First World Cup Aged 19.
Ever since he started playing for Bayern in 4 years has been a part of 3 Champions League Finals winning 1 including a Treble.(before he started playing Bayern last reached CL Final or Semi in 2001 when they won it)
Has scored in every round of Champions League.
Scored what should have been the winner against Chelsea in CL 2012 before being subbed and eventually leading to Bayern defeat.
Ever since then has been Bayern's main penalty taker has missed just once.
Man of The Match in probably Bayern's most iconic victory 4-0 vs Barcelona, scored 2nd goal when he was injured and wanted to be subbed.
Last year's best Team's most productive player in terms of assists+goal and team's overall Top scorer and 2nd highest assist provider after Ribery.
The Team's most hardworking player called by a leading journalist the "Conquerer of Space" execeptionally intelligent and brilliant off the ball.
Germany seemed unbeatable in World Cup 2010 even though they were a young team with most players playing their first big tournament and on top of that they had lost their Captain and Star Player Michael Ballack still they beat a team having starts like Rooney+Gerrard+Lampard+Terry etc as Muller scored twice, then he scored against Messi's Argentina as Germany demolished them. When Germany lost to Spain,Muller wasn't playing and then he came back and scored again against Uruguay and helped Germany come back from behind to beat Uruguay. Yes i believe the guy is better than Rooney cos he possesses the same quality has won The Champions League and League Titles like Rooney and does everything for Bayern that Rooney does for United and though it might be debatable, the stats say he does them even better that's why Bayern and Germany are better than England and United and wait he's still 23.

So an idea just popped into my head. Sergio Aguero. Hear me out before you push "ignore":

Can play striker/winger, and does some especially great work from the left.

Now for the gritty speculatory stuff: Lotta rumors for awhile he wasn't particularly happy in Manchester after his family left. London is closer to his family in Madrid, and it can also provide him with a great place to start anew. He may have been further unsettled as to his prospects on the pitch this year with the new incomings at striker and Dzeko's form and favor in preseason (in particular at about the time of this "offer"). He probably figured his dream move of Real Madrid wouldn't work out anytime soon with the impending Bale purchase, as well as probably being aware he wasn't the top target on their strikers wanted list anyway. Prices being touted about while Madrid was interested ranged did indeed from 40-50 mil. This move could fly under the radar as no one would have any idea he was available. City probably also didn't view us as direct rivals at the time (especially due to CL absence), so would be more willing to make this move happen under the radar, especially if we were willing to pay that much. Unanimous dancing and streaking of Spurs fans in streets? You betcha. And lastly, he is at a top CL-level club with an incoming South American coach, and so probably wanted to at least have a look.

Gotta admit, does fit in a few too many corners of the puzzle.

I read the initial post when it was first written. Thought I'd pop in to see if the cat was out of the bag. Alas it's more like drowning kittens.

Lets face it, in January the goal posts will have moved. United will be looking to spunk £130m on Messi to save them from relegation and other clubs would be looking to loan our fringe players out as we sit 19points clear at the top of the table with only Everton offering up a token challenge for the title.

Wasn't Iniesta was it? Rumour that a Premiership club made a bid over the summer.

I can't see us spending that much on a 29 year old. In fact it's hard to see us spending that much on anyone.

I'm starting to wonder if it was Fabregas. He was linked to a move during the last window but said he wanted to stay and fight for his place. Can you imagine the gloating if we signed Arsenals golden boy of a few years ago. Dancing in the streets?

Aguero will never happen, as likely as Messi

Might be the right club though, Dzeko?

Wouldn't cost 50m but total package with wages probably would, can't be happy being a squad player at city, might fancy us but hoped a German club would come in for him so sat tight
