So an idea just popped into my head. Sergio Aguero. Hear me out before you push "ignore":

Can play striker/winger, and does some especially great work from the left.

Now for the gritty speculatory stuff: Lotta rumors for awhile he wasn't particularly happy in Manchester after his family left. London is closer to his family in Madrid, and it can also provide him with a great place to start anew. He may have been further unsettled as to his prospects on the pitch this year with the new incomings at striker and Dzeko's form and favor in preseason (in particular at about the time of this "offer"). He probably figured his dream move of Real Madrid wouldn't work out anytime soon with the impending Bale purchase, as well as probably being aware he wasn't the top target on their strikers wanted list anyway. Prices being touted about while Madrid was interested ranged did indeed from 40-50 mil. This move could fly under the radar as no one would have any idea he was available. City probably also didn't view us as direct rivals at the time (especially due to CL absence), so would be more willing to make this move happen under the radar, especially if we were willing to pay that much. Unanimous dancing and streaking of Spurs fans in streets? You betcha. And lastly, he is at a top CL-level club with an incoming South American coach, and so probably wanted to at least have a look.

Gotta admit, does fit in a few too many corners of the puzzle.

Where is the "Are you fucking mental?!" rating when you need it?

Aguero will never happen, as likely as Messi

Might be the right club though, Dzeko?

Wouldn't cost 50m but total package with wages probably would, can't be happy being a squad player at city, might fancy us but hoped a German club would come in for him so sat tight
yea but if you believe the ITK this thread is founded on (and hence the discussions are about) it states a £50m bid was made and accepted by the potential selling club but rejected by the player himself

So it would need to be a player we would bid £50m for to his club - not a total package including wages so by that definition you're ruling Dzeko out with your own suggestion.

I'm personally more incline to believe this ITK is off the mark and I doubt there is a player we successfully bid £50m for but if it is true its much more likely to be Aguero than Dzeko due to their respective market values

Not Falcao - The tax thing wouldnt mind, plus he would rather go to Chelsea/City for higher wages (ALTHOUGH, Did work with AVB before)
Not Aguero - Probably wouldn't take a step to us even with all the options they have up front

If its someone the press didn't get a hold of that gets rid of -

Suarez, Hulk, Mata

For it to be 50m, we're looking for a attacking player and I reckon a maximum age of 26-27

So lets start shall we -

Nemanja Matic - 50m Buyout clause according to (http://www.tribalfootball.com/artic...lsea-matic-buyout-clause-3963451#.UkOGxYbrxmI) , AVB Probably knows a lot about him from following the Portugese league and was probably also part of the team that brought him to Chelsea in 2009.

Marco Reus - Pretty standard, Dortmund would probably sell him at that price too, but he has dreamed of playing for them maybe why the player rejected it.

Its 2AM now, I'll add more tomorrow when I can be bothered to have a look around.

Nemanja Matic wouldn't make much sense for this squad. We have 4 starter-quality players for the double-pivot already. Good player, but we're not going to drop 50m on a player for the pivot. It's why I think a youngster like Rabiot makes more sense.

And I definitely wont dance naked over signing Matic but would if it is Aguero:D

Aguero salary is a cool USD16M a year.... so we can safely put this to rest.

What about someone out of South America?

Now that Neymar is in Europe, who's the next big thing in Brazil or Argentina?
