Said it in another thread, AVB will either make VDV captain and build the team around him or let him go

You want a team that runs out f energy at sixty minutes?

Nonsense, he never stops running

Just because Arry kept subbing him doesn't mean he was wrecked, VDV has said himself many times he is most potent when the other team starts to tire in the final quarter of the game

I can we VdV and AVB clashing big time if things don't go well, VdV isn't shy in speakIng his mind regarding how a squad is handled and AVB is imcredably stubborn and dare I say single minded (if his spell at the chavs is anything to go by, sorry it can't be ignored). Just hope everything reall does start well and the media aren't out for AVBs blood which I fear they will be.

If, (when) Modric goes VDV will be our best and most experienced player.
Tactically aware and a good finisher, VDB would be a fool to overlook him.
With Parker out for the first month or so of the season
and King possibly moving out of the playing arena
then VDV is my nomination for captain.
When Sigurdsson plays VDV could move deeper into the Modric role.
He hasn't been subbed at 60 minutes lately in any case.

I think we will end up having a tactical problem on our hands if/when Sigurdsson/Oscar signs.

I think it will see us move into a 4-3-3 (nothing wrong with that) with VDV as one of the two central midfielders, and I think he will simply be too deep. As shown for Holland, he isn't really a CM, he is an AM, we need him within 30 yards of goal with his intelligent movement and vision to create and score chances. I think he might be played too deep, not have the legs to cover the ground, and offer enough defensively.

Either that or he is played AM, and crowds out the space Sigurdsson/Oscar would play in.

If AVB wants to be tactically flexible then there is scope for both, can he manage the squad better than Harry?

A player who plays in the same position as another isn't necessarily a replacement. We have lost Kranjcar after all. We need to build a squad that's capable of challenging on four fronts. More players in.

we would only miss techinque on shots, long shots & penalties, it's hard to keep a player expect first team football, big wages rated & £12m at his age just for those skills, it's needed in EPL but those skills should be already here at one or two other players, I think Bale & Giovani can offer those things, if the later stayed here.

VdV is genuinely world class. Genuinely.

We start saying things like the OP has along the lines of "unfit, cant tackle (which is bollocks) etc etc amen" and it makes us look like cocks.

We shouldn't look like cocks.

VdV is genuinely awesome.

That's a bit of light relief for a Wednesday morning.

If Sig comes in it shouldnt be an issue, we need to build a squad of players not just a first XI

Maybe working properly on the fitness of VDV will be something of a priority for our new coach.

what is wrong with his fitness ?

he has a knee problem similar to King which he cannot help and we cannot change, I just hope our new fitness coach stops causing more injuries to VDV and listens to the likes of Raymond Verheijen on how to train him to get the best out of him.

I'd hate to see him leave, hes our only truely world class player.

I think selling him would send out all the wrong signals to both fans and other players.

With Sigurdsson coming in, I can only help but wonder is there no place for VDV in AVB's team?????

He is somewhat a luxury player with his lack of fitness and limited physical attributes, along with being incapable of making a good tackle.

So can someone please re-assure me? As Rafa has been one of my most favourite players of our recent era.. Can Gylfi play on the wing as well as behind the striker???

A luxury player?

Seriously come on!

Is he though?

I mean, if we assume that 'world class' means he can get into any side in the world, then that's not true

If 'world class' means he's one of the top-10 number 10s/AMC in the world then that's probably not true either

Anyway, in answer to the original question it'll be down to the formation that AVB deploys. I'm actually quite interested to see what AVB can get out of the Dutch wizard :)

It's absolute madness that people would even consider selling VDV. He's world class, our talisman and he's won more games for us the past 2 seasons than Modric and Bale combined.

If he isn't 'world class' then none of our players are even close. He's more important to us than Modric or Bale.
