If he really was that good, one of the big clubs in Europe would have snapped him up by now. Its not like he has this huge valuation over his head. I'm sure we'd sell him for around £10m if offered it. Funny how there has been such a lack of interest. Galatasaray is the best he can get?

I really like him and i think he has great potential. But so far thats all it is, potential.

I'm more upset Gio has not had a chance than Pav. When he has come on he has looked lively, pacey, and I think we just needed to identify a role for him and then mould him for that role.

Why he hasnt played more is beyond me. But then again I dont see what goes on at the training ground.

When we play Modric and Kranjcar on the wings and complain about being far too narrow, the departure of Gio will look a big mistake.

The thing is though, he was largely unaffective as a winger playing for Barca, all his best football has been playing as a withdrawn striker for Mexico, according to the player himself that is his position.

I just don't see any chance of him getting past Defoe and Keane as a lil 'un up top for us.

We are really going to regret this - in the short term when we continue to struggle with Modric and Kranjcar on the flanks everytime Lennon is out, and in the long term when he excels at the WC and ends up signing from Galatasaray for Man U/Chelsea/Man C for £30m in 18 months time.

He's 10 times the player Rose will ever be.

Very poor jugdement.

Do you really think that if Man U/Chelsea etc will buy him in 18 months time for 30m, they would have bought him now, before the world cup, before his price shoots up to 30p, sorrry, I mean 30m. Because they have the chance to. If he has that much "world class" potential.

The only team that wants him, are the ones who are currently employing his former manager. It says alot really.

But you never know, you might be right.

I'm sure they plumped for Gio after their initial approach for Danny Rose was turned down.....

Joke.

Disappointed Harry hasn't given him a chance, but he's the one who see's him train every day. I hope he does the business over there and comes back!

100% correct, you sure? I'll take wagers with anyone at any odds that he doesn't go for £30m to one of the top four in a year or two.

I had assumed this to have been an exaggeration the emphasise his point, otherwise I do agree 100% with Dan's post. We can speculate back and forth indefinately as to the possible value that Gio could have been to Spurs - it looks as if we will never know. But what is surely beyond debate is that he has not been given a chance to allow any us to make an accurate assessment. I think that it is this factor which has frustrated so many. There is no doubt at all that he has potential but he seems to be yet another example of a player with promise shipped out for no apparent reason.

Some people keep using cliches like 1)"maybe Rose has worked his socks off while Gio was not bothered if he gets in the team", and 2) "if he was that good, a top club would have snapped him up now" etc... Please think about it.
1) Do they really know that for a fact and have seen both of them in training all the time? And, if he was not that bothered, would he take a step down to Ipswich for half a season and now be on the verge of signing for Galatasaray and Rijkaard where he would have to play much more than at Spurs under Harry?

2) Top clubs would not rush to sign a young player, however talented, who did not play more than a handful of matches at the top tier in the whole year. They will want to assess him after he has played more regularly at a sufficiently high level.
If he has a good spell at Gala and especially if he has a good World Cup, we may well see much more interest in him, from top clubs included.

And, most importantly for us, as Rose seems to be the one Harry chose to be the pacy, skillful winger option in the absence of Lennon, do you believe Rose will be much more effective than Giovanni? And to use these people's logic, have we seen ANY interest from ANY premiership side in Rose, let alone top clubs in Europe as you suggest should have happened with Gio "if he was that good"?
Do you believe this will happen soon?

The point is, there is not much logic in letting a ready option and talented player with good experience at high level go only to replace him with a "may be ready" younger player with much less high level experience. If Rose showed much more potential talent than Gio, then it would be fair enough. But he hasn't - and that is where the doubts of favouritism emerge again.

Ribery went to Gala, had a falling out, then went to Marseille and the rest is now history.........

Well it was rumoured that Deportivo wanted him for a while, Keane wanted him back at Ipswich, Pompey wanted him too.

At least Gio made an impact instantly playing for Ipswich, what exactly did Rose do at Peterborough and Watford. I know the Peterborough manager changed but I didn't exactly see those clubs clamouring to re-sign him. The fans didn't have much good to say either.

Harry can't be the only one who doesn't see a potential new Pele, considering that when he is available on loan, Galatasaray are the team who want him.

I'm pretty sure we had reactions like this when Gary Doherty left the club.

Just to point it out that Gio came on against Wolves and was PATHETIC-ran the ball straight into their right back on three consecutive ocassions-the only way that anyone can rate him is if they have a secret camera placed in training, and are watching him beat 10 men every time he gets the ball before smashing it in the corner, because quite frankly, he has had one good game in his entire club career, and that was against a relegated team in Spain; it just seems like people hear a fancy foreign name, see that he has come from Barca and have immediately deduced that he is a wonderkid-quite frankly, that is the stuff of 11 year olds and football manager addicts, not proper football fans

We had this crap four years ago, with weekly threads demanding Jol play Stephen 'People's Favourite' Kelly in place of Stalteri. And eventually Jol did, and what happened? Kelly was utter shite. Three games, and his fan club went very quiet.

We had similar cries for sometime HSV bench-warmer and Wigan second-choice LB Reto Ziegler, too. 'Nasty Mr Jol isn't giving my favewit player a chance! He is so cruel and evil and he doesn't know what he is doing! He is so tictacly naive!'

Well Harry, you better get it right then. Because since Lennon has been out your alternatives have been awful.

Keep on telling us Modric is world class and maybe it will happen.

So talking about a completely different player, in a different position, in a different lineup with different circumstances, makes you right about what exactly?

When you have the whole history of Spurs to pick and choose certain situations, you can prove your opinion "right" no matter what happens.

A loan with an option is still ultimately a loan.

I honestly don't see this as anything more than him getting some much needed playing time.

Good luck to him.
